a real simple kludge would be to have your Linux based TIVO recorder capture line signals fed from a video mux box. receiving input signals any attached video cams. treat the signal like a programmed channel on cable or sat?
is... http://www.computing.net/linux/wwwboard/forum/2537 5.html... helpful?
two of the kids on my block have a purposely unbocked wireless LAN in their basement which they stream their audio tunes thru 24/7.
does this make them a noncleanchannel station?
they insert their own.wav verbal snippets at times to add a personal 'flava' to the production.
their friendsliving near enough can listen since the LAN signal is bridged/amplified and carries quite a distance nearby.
their next project is a 12VDC wireless LAN for their cars to do that same thing at their local parking lot get togethers.
this is so much fun!
not much different
or not much different than listening
to someone elses audio collection where
they stage the tunes and you listen
or not much different than another
persons conversation when they talk
without a script
or not much in general
running these two on separate hard drives at the least. that seems to work fine, sharing a drive has given us many issues which a second drive solves in each case.
would be to watch the packets and
buffer them to a holding state if the
system was 'busy' with whatever.
when the system was clear or had a lull,
then the packets in the holding state would be allowed to proceed.
this transmit collision thing takes up
a lot of time. not everything needs a
go or no go status... perhaps a later go
status is workable?
really, to get the message out, MS should just mass snail mail free CDs or DVDs to everyone like AOL does. siince they would be free, the Armys complaints would be without merit.
then they can let people try and see if the product is that good or if the old version people have or the OpenOffice suite LINUX software will do just as well.
i have always felt MS could make a much better product and differentiate themselves by having the Office stuff solve real world problems... such as i want to send and receive EDI/XML things like invoices and payments from inside my QuickenBooks.
i do not want to continually buy another version of what i already have, security holes and intentional mistakes and all.
a fireproof insulated vault, safe and sound from your primary storage copies burning up at the house.
separate copies are better than ones in
the same physical location

... just make sure it has a KEYBOARD dude!!!
on
Death of the PDA?

if these devices merge, i sure as hell do not
want to be typing on those '12345...' phone keyboards.
some of us DO use them for more than talk and music.
seriously, until we/kids/whoever gets the
data and music we love off their network and their
servers onto our network of cars and our
servers on laptops and transceive with
mobile wireless routers in our friends and
peeps tuners, we are just a target in their sights!
be independent and be free!
peace!
and in both, it is not yours, it is theirs!
a solution?
form your own non university wireless networks
and servers and do what the f____ you want.
hint;
when you graduate, you will be doing that
anyhow so why not get some experience in
hands on building, system setup, and problem solving and creatively make the world a better (insert your definition here)place where you want to live.
peace!
currently, that is a whole untapped void for product placement awareness, you use it, you read it, you flush it.
how simple and your TIVO box is not needed.
(works just as well with paper towels by the way)
and no one did.
the Singapore company got a lot of fiber
and a worldwide footprint on the cheap.
the chief reason the former owners got
into hot water was mismanagement and
fraud. good riddance!
(and this is from a small ex Global Crossing shareholder)
the clients have to become the servers
AND
the clients have to encrypt their data streams.
AND
the clients have to be connected to the internet
by fat fast pipes.
this gives the edge of the network control
over what content is shared and how and to
whom it is sent.
the RIAA suits work mostly because they can
find an easy ISP host target with easy to decipher
file names and a list of subscribers.
subtract these advantages and their goal
becomes much less do-able.
( i still hope that a new internet is born
from the wireless networking trend... say one
where a wireless router in a home or a car or a backpack links to and interacts with other wireless routers in other homes and cars backpacks on a completely local basis. )
what will we call this?...friendnet...peoplenet?
for entertainment especially, i agree.
most every teen people would crave an all LED video and audio surrounding, buildin some max powered sub-woofer speakers and add a full 65K+ color display to shock and amaze and they will buy them in carloads!!!
make and roll your own environments dude
go back to snail mail, and hand carried CD copies as the preferred internet providers of choice.
same result, but different and non traceable Servie Providers.
the solution here in PA was to install
and run a backup Genset system when the
power company signs off,,,, this happens a
lot by the way.
how we, ( a small company ) managed to handle
this issue 2-3 years ago is still amazing.
how they, (everyone else) did not, is
also amazing but predictable.
can any of us wait until the next import
into the software market comes from China?
if the Asians can make better cars, and import them and sell them, it is only a matter of time before MS becomes like the Big 3 auto companies and has to battle for it's life.
then, GM and whoever is left will say,...send me your quote on your least costly software package and we will evaluate which one to use as our standard worldwide.
seems like a lower revenue stream to me...
does this firm include a sump pump for the
times the system 'leaks'?
if they asked me, i would use another inert
liquid/gas/refrigerant as a coolant, instead of
a conductive one...
while i have had very good luck, if that is the status, in CDR recording and playback, i do make more than just one CDR backup...
there is safety in numbers!
also, i am coming to the conclusion that i must agree with a thread which i believe i found on another site, (was it =>ExtremeTech.com?) in which the author suggested backing up to a new HDD in addition to any other removable media CDR, tape, etc.
each generation HDD seems to have so much more capacity... i wonder, why not just do a save of all your data into a folder or directory on a cheap spare hard drive... (\YR2003 for instance) and be done with the rest until you upgrade again.

if cars were like homes, you could envision owning one and getting spare parts for them .... not now...

put a little mystery into life for gods sake...

more independent power producers is the key. you may trust the powerlines if you want, but keep your genset handy. this has worked for us.
