The company I work for had a huge support contract with a software vendor. When that vendor closed down we were out the money for the rest of the year and were faced with either not having support, or paying another vendor (who had purchased the source) for the same support.
This is definately a big step in the right direction. Once major apps can run well under Linux, more users will be able to fully adopt it as a primary OS.
Even putting the debate on file sharing aside, if something isn't done soon the RIAA is going to have the court system so bogged down with all of these cases that others will fall by the wayside. No one group should have the right to monopolize the legal system in such a way.
Good to know that Square isn't abandoning those of us who prefer stand alone to online. When I sit down to play an RPG, the last thing I want to do is deal with real people.
Sounds like a brilliant idea. Hopefully this is something that could eventually be compacted enough to fit into consumer electronics. It would be great to be able to watch TV from every country without any language barrier!
I just can't see this ever becoming an affordable technology. Sure, it's a great boon to CAD designers who want to produce an "instant" prototype, but I seriously doubt there will ever be a "napster" of solid objects.
I have serious doubts that these companies can actually cooperate on anything long enough to produce a viable standard.
I'd be happy just to see a universal remote that actually did replace all the other remotes, instead of just giving partial functionality.
Puzzle games are the best example because they are the most common. A small company with a limited budget can produce a puzzle game quickly and cheaply - and if the game is addictive enough they will do quite well with it. I'd love to see more small companies creating games like SOLDAT, but it isn't likely that will happen on any large scale.
But don't most browsers already allow you to block cookies?
The bit about forcing them to tell you what's going to be in the cookie and what it's used for seems to be a Good Thing, but otherwise this just seems to be a bit pointless.
I'd be more shocked to find out that this is the first time something like this has happened. Surely some other clerk was underhanded enough to think of this before.
It will be interesting to see if they can apply this same type of technology to help increase other types of brainwave activity. Perhaps this could be used to improve overall concentration. I could see this being applied to vital professions to reduce accidents.

Virtual rape is not real rape. There are enough problems trying to get real rape cases through the legal system now without worrying about virtual rape. Anyone who gets seriously upset about something that happens in a VR game needs to find another hobby.
Sorry, I should have made my point a little more clear. A country with such a serious problem should be working harder to close down child brothels instead of dealing with late night gaming.
They should be required to label these printers. Otherwise people will continue to buy them without realizing that they will never be able to buy a third party cartrige.
In related news, cutting the CatV cable at random points through your building can be destructive to your network.

Stone: We are going to continue to push it. .Net on Linux is a great idea. We just hope Microsoft isn't against the idea.
I cannot imagine a world in which Microsoft would even consider allowing such a thing to happen.
Still this looks like a good thing overall.
But this really looks fun. I think we need more games with breasts!
I guess it's time I finally give in and buy an Xbox. KOTOR alone looks like it'll be worth it.
Shouldn't the Department of Fatherland Security be working to eliminate terrorists and Democrats instead of pointing out the obvious?

If Thailand is so much better at raising children, why are they so well known for child prostitution?

Maybe they would spend more time outside if they had to work for every minute of their game time!
