Problem is, while revenues go up, spending goes through the roof. Most of it spent on the Defense budget. And for all the missiles and planes and nukes we have, how did that protect us in any way from the happenings of 9/11? How will having the best armed forces in the world save us from a dirty bomb smuggled in in the back of a Volvo? Maybe spending 300 billion a year on building new and improved weapons isn't the right course. Maybe more training for our current police officers. Maybe more police in general. Maybe more firemen and paramedics. And maybe we should be spending a bunch of that money on whole hell of a lot of international PR. Maybe we should take a page from the corporate playbook and start winning countries over with words, not ridiculous macho catch phrases and the stereotypical jock-bully approach. Maybe.

    Just a thought.

Besides, numbers rarely mean anything in and of themselves. I'm sure for every fact and figure you find to prove your point (or disprove someone elses), more facts and figures can be used to illustrate your adversary's point and disprove your own.

Yeah, the drivers that come in the box are always horrendous. The drivers that came with my Asus card always crashed my system. Even the newest ones from the Asus site were horrible. No matter what card you get, if it's an nVidia, always use the detonators. Otherwise performance will be horrible.

That's interesting. I went from a Voodoo 3 and getting "72fps" on TFC and CS (no vsync support...bleh), but dropping to about 15fps in a major firefight (Athlon 1.1ghz with 512mb of ram at the time) to an Asus GeForce 3 (newest out, at the time - cost me about 500$) - and I got 60FPS at the highest resolutions, all the time, every time. When I upgraded from my GeForce 3 to my Geforce 4 ti4600, I noticed zero performance increase (at least not in the HL engine). All it did was take up more room in my already cramped case.

I guess I'll ask the simple, "stupid" question - were you using the newest detonator drivers? Did you have the newest VIA 4-in-1 drivers (if you had a VIA board). I noticed serious issues with any game I played whenever I didn't have the 4-in-1's installed (such never being able to stop crouching, guns that would reload after 3 shots, etc, etc).
br If that isn't it, I have no idea. I guess the point is moot now that you have a 9800pro :)

Not so simple, actually. The law here may be changed, and if we don't approve, we can change it. That's the core set of beliefs. Also, you do realise that violent crime in your country has dropped year on year in the last 10 years? So why exactly do you need all this weaponry?

I could care less about having a gun for my personal civil protection. The chances of me getting to a firearm before a criminal shot me are next to nothing. But the fact of the matter is, we don't trust our Government. That's why America was founded with so many checks and balances; one of which being the people shrugging off a tyrannical government. I believe it was either Jefferson or Washington who said that it was essential for a people to revolt every so often so as to keep the government clean and honest. I don't know that I necessarily agree with that, but the truth is, we want to have the ability to protect our rights (if it ever came down to it.)

That is why I believe in the 2nd amendment. I don't care that it's a sport, I don't care that it "protects" people from criminals (which I don't believe justifies the many more deaths as a result of illegal gun violence each year). I just want to make sure that, if it ever came down to it, I, or my children, or my children's children would have the means to do what they need to do if the situation were to call for it. I don't mind gun control. I'll lock my guns up in 3 safes and bury them if I have to. But I want to have access to a firearm if it were needed.

Paranoid? Probably. But I'd rather be safe than sorry. Like someone else stated: I value my liberty over security. The Patriot Act, gun banning, etc, etc, while potentially keeping me safer draw perilously close to trading my freedoms for a little more "safety".

I'd rather be free and fighting (or dead) than safe and a slave.

The odds of you getting to your gun before you're shot are extremely slim, even if you don't have it locked up as it should be. If you have children and one of them kills themselves while playing with your gun, you deserve to die. Plain and simple.
