Perfect Digital Skin

There have been cases of AIDS in people who work in porn. If effective skin was developed for CG movies, this would make it a lot safer for people working in this billion-dollar business.
I think the luddite who wrote the article means "Amazon, Yahoo, MSN, AOL" instead of "the internet." The internet is a den of sin and debauchery. People are stealing things all the time; code, pictures, software. It can't be enforced because any action by the enforcers will be circumvented. This scares people, and so they stay in their little gated communities and talk about how wonderful life is. These are the same people who sued Hustler and put warning labels on CDs: They don't want to admit to there being A) People different from themselves and B) Sex, drugs, alcohol, or other naughty things.
They are the thought police we've been warned about. (A few of them are in alt.sex.pictures.baaa and then condemn us for being in alt.sex.pictures.chicks)
And unlike wetware women, robochicks can be sterilized after use! Brilliant! Not only that, they can be disassembled for easy storage and expanded to include "get me a beer" and "make dinner" functions. And they don't complain when you ask to do it naked!
Friends, we are approaching the end of humanity. Make sure your seat backs and tray tables are in the upright and locked position.
I was pissed when they moved from floppies to CDs, because you could use the floppies for storing data, but the CDs were just coasters/(bad) frisbees/microwave toys.
But the little tin boxes they send out now are great for toting burned CDs places: durable, free, and they hold four or five CDs.
Reading the same file formats is nowhere near the order of interoperability that the grandparent post was talking about -- running the same executables.
I don't think I'd use a Mac if I had to run Windows executables. Blech. MS Office for Mac is soo much better than Office for windows. And besides, the only thing I'm missing out on are games (and I'm not interested in playing "Bass Hunter IV: Mo' Fish, Mo' Bullets") and MS Project. Well, Sorta
Anything you can do on Windows can be done on a Mac faster, better, or both. Trust me, I've gone through an entire IT degree with a Mac and haven't had any problems doing assignments. Hell, XCode made Java easier.
Powerbook w/ Bluetooth + GPRS Cell w/ Bluetooth + T-Mobile's Unlimited Wireless Internet = Internet on my computer everywhere. And I don't even need a bike!
Yes, video editing. However, we're not talking about video editing software. We're talking about an OPERATING SYSTEM!!! It must have video editing built in to need that much friggin computing power. (And it might, considering M$'s penchant for feature creep.)
I'm not going to buy a PC if I need that much power just to run the OS. I'll stick with my Mac.
Once fines and punishments can be absorbed by revenues and treated as 'costs of doing business,' antitrust laws lose their effectiveness. But to reform the laws would require massive popular support on an issue that few people are even aware of, let alone care about.
It's not functionality if it gets in your way; it's feature creep. Functionality would be adding performance enhancements. Functionality would be making it easier to interoperate with other systems. Functionality would be letting the file system be a file system and not a way to print photos, browse the web, or create new text documents.
Functionality is not locking out competitors and forcing your customers to buy more of your product (complete with all the security holes and vulnerabilities) just so they can get some work done.
Funny story about Mac OS 8: A buddy of mine was really, really into this girl at the time. I had just bought OS 8 to upgrade my Performa 6290, and he asked me to borrow it. He upgraded her Performa (a 6200 I think), and it turns out that it wasn't compatible and it was her dad's computer. So her dad had to pay for it to be sent back to Apple to have a chip replaced in it.
Well, maybe you had to be there. And then there was the time our homeroom teacher let us play Marathon in class. Good times.
Welcome to the family, friend. I'm sure you'll like it here. (Here's a little tip, though: When you get your Mac, wipe it and reinstall without the language packs but make sure to include X11 and XCode. You'll save HD space and get X11 functionality and a great dev environment.)
Great! No one is making you. I can't imagine the woes I'll go through once Longhorn is released (2050) and my Dad upgrades and finds out none of the apps he bought will work unless he buys new versions of them, too.
Clearly, you're not a Mac user. Every upgrade to OS X has made my four year old machine perform better. I can still use a 400MHz machine to do web design and graphics: You can't say that about a 1GHz PC running XP! I'd much rather have to shell out $120 each year for a speed bump than $600 for a new PC.
But Linux can be patched in such a way that regular users can't do anything nasty to their systems. Perhaps that's the key: Limitations on the use of the system that require some level of skill to remove, therefore proving the intelligence of the user. Dumbasses get one that's totally tied down (for their own protection) while 1337 g33ks get powerful systems because they're not chocaholics.
That's bull. There are water towers over 33 feet high. How do they get the water in them?
I got one. What do I win?

Check out the last and final episode tonight!
No!

I will publicly flog my self with a PS/2 cable if microsoft releases Longhorn before or during 2006.

You obviously have no clue what your are talking about. All the really cool dot-bomb CEOs sat on Ball Chairs

I'm a power user andmy home machine is running at 400Mhz. I just ordered a new portable that has 1.5Ghz.
But those numbers mean nothing because I'm a Mac user.

Yes! If only there was a better way!

I agree. Expose alone was worth the cost of upgrading because it's enhanced my productivity.

Darwan: A large network in which selection determines node connectivity.
I would also like to say that I love my Mac.
