If you're talking about not having a 220-volt outlet nearby, you're probably American. But you're calling it "mains power", which is usually a Commonwealth thing. Are you by chance Canadian?
I whole-heartedly agree. I can still remember back in grade 9 when all the computers where running windows 98! We caused so many headaches for that poor SOB. All you needed to do to be untraceable is push the cancel button at the login screen. Nevermind the complete lack of a file server, all documents were saved on the local hard drive.
The year after they switched to NT4. Not sure what they had for file servers. I managed to get a shortcut to a command prompt from a file->open in paint. When they figured that out, I just opened word, typed and saved a batch file. I wound up making a 120K file filled with "NET SEND * Hello world". You've never laughed until you've heard about 40 built-in speakers in a lab all beeping for about 3 minutes.
Top that off with the system clocks never being even close to the real time, and all the computers being old 166 MHz machines with turbo buttons, and you've got one giant mess.
-Disabled DCOM.
-Haven't seen the restart more then the first time.
-Don't have any files described by any sites seen on google.
-Updated ZoneAlarm and ran through windows update.
Perhaps the reboot isn't a %100 proof? Oh well, time to restart manually... Good ol' windows.
From XP systems I have seen it throws an error to the screen about RPC services
Same thing for me, I rebooted to knoppix and did some research (because I didn't know anything about RPC), then disabled DCOM in windows and all is hopefully good.
Excuse me while I pull out my power generator, amplifier, 14 inch 1500 watt subwoofer and 7 150 watt midranges so I can play [insert game of the month].
I'm the king of portability!
[/flaming_and_sarcasm]
The wireless connection would be really nice though. Finally, no more having to pay an extra $20 for a piece of wire to play against friends. Plus it will make it easier to hack and run linux:)
Unfortunately, it comes with DVD-style region controls, though after someone hacks it, it won't matter much.
USB 2.0? What would that be good for when you have a wireless connection? A portable chunk of FLASH for saves?
Speaking as a Canadian who was just on vacation, you need a passport to get into Canada, but not Mexico.
Is it just me or does that look a lot like KDE?
Now let me go get my enormous wallet and pay the trillion dollar tab to use them. Or maybe I should pull a Mr. Burns and use my trillion dollar bill?

Canadians use 120V too, you insensitive clod!
Cool! I bet I can tie more rocks to my ram than you can!
*Pulls out 3 ton boulder*
Crash!
Oh crap!

Some people shouldn't even consider owning computers....
Further information/updates from my winxp box:

Any information on how to remove it? I'm gonna go do some googling...

on a different article and got no mod points! Grrrrr. You own me karma!
A funny beowulf joke on /.!
...there were people dumb enough to buy a subscription to that lagfest!
That extra cash is sure looking nice in my pocket right now.
Don't forget the cell phone and screaming kids!
If you really want a bad sounding song off that album, listen to deviance. No bass at all.
Now all you need to do is train 45 monkeys to press the buttons with split second timing :D.
That or you could hack the cameras and rig up some sort of synchronisation thing. The monkeys would be more fun though...

IP address?
The hardware being used? (less likely)
But, then again, most of these could be traced back to a specific person if you tried hard enough...

Wait a second, who counted these?"
Looks like they fired up a few of those CRAYs to help with the load :)
