I believe code reviews with a large enough group of people to be extremely useful. Yeah, it takes time and you get some irritating comments from a few people about how there is a space between something or comma between something, but when multiple eyes look at it, someone always catches something you didn't. A few hours of extra pain on the side of programmers can prevent pain for millions in the form of blaster viruses, etc.

Seems like a lot of the clearcase features seem to be targetted towards extremely large projects involving 100s of people in a controlled environment (such as a corporationa as opposed to open source development). Using Clearcase in smaller projects involving fewer people seems way more trouble than it is worth. Clearcase sucks ass at least for such projects.

All major computer manufacturers are pricey if you try to get a fully configured system from them. The key is to buy the base configuration (128 MB RAM, 20-30GB HDD, etc) which is usually extremely inexpensive and then head over to fry's or some other place to upgrade your RAM, etc.

  15. Wrong target on DOJ Drops Online Music Antitrust Investigation · · Score: 3, Insightful

It's not just that it's easy to get ridiculous patents through the Patent office. There are incentives in most companies for employees filing patents such as cash, stock options, etc. This not only inspires some people to come up with good ideas, but it also inspires a lot of people to come up with crap just so that they can get some $$$ (yeah I'm one of them too).

This ICBM nonsense seems to be floating all over the place. Only a bloody idiot would use a cryogenic engine for an ICBM. You don't need to build a god damned geostationery satellite launch vehicle to build an ICBM. India's Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle which has been operational for many years now can easily be converted to an operational ICBM. Cryogenic engines just add the need for a lot more ground facilities for a launch. There just isn't a need for an ICBM since China and Pakistan are right next door to India. The attitude seems to be.. "oh India's launching satellites? It must be for something bad." Get over it assholes.
