I stood in my local game store less than a week ago with a copy of EQ2 and a copy of WoW in my hands.. desperate for ANYTHING to cure me of the extreme case of "WTF is wrong with you people??" I was suffering from regarding SWG:JTLS and SOE. I was tired of engless promises from the devs in SWG and the lack of overall content and was ready for something new. I bought EQ2. Maybe I chose wrong ?

i like eq2, but this makes me wonder if I should have gotten WoW instead ? Anyone played both and can comment on the pros/cons of both ?

the business model he is describing is more about offering services that companies want.. thatn auto update or free software. If a business isnt big enough to have its own IT staff, they still have IT needs to be met. Most times they dont care how you meet those needs, as long as you do. The business model proposed is basically saying use a "whitebox" running a bunch of software to meet these needs.. you can reuse the same concept in a number of businesses as they all have similar needs. Tie this in with providing central administration for the installed "whiteboxes", compatability with existing systems and people wont care what its running. If they can run their business they wil be happy. The idea is to make a highly flexable system able to be "tuned" to the customers needs that is transparent to them, it just works. after all thats been the theory behind alot of OSS, it just works.

we make getting to the moon regularly a reality before we try to go to mars.. I think when we can get to the moon and back, we will have developed the things we need to go to mars, not to mention it will make building the things needed to get to mars alot easier. any attempt at mars should be launched from the moon, or very close too it. We wont need to carry the fuel to escape the earth for one. we need to: #1) Perfect a method for getting fuel, water, oxygen, building materials and food etc etc into earths orbit cheaply. a large cannon, or rockets. what ever it is should be cheap, wholely reusable and be able to be used 2-3 times a week to keep the supply of vital materials running. #2) Have a space "tug" that goes out from the ISS and retireves the cargo we "shot|rocketed" into space. The tug never actually re-enters the earths atmosphere, its just used for retrieving capsules shot or rocketed into orbit. #3) Build the things we need to get to the moon in space at the ISS. #4) colonise the moon. Lets test our colonisation process before we run off to mars, make sure our habitats/eco systems etc etc are going to work just fine. #5) when we are shootign stuff into space.. building things.. and making regular trips to the moon, THEN lets start applying some of that to getting us to mars. Lets walk before we can run.

Before we waste our time trying to get to mars.. Lets make getting payloads and people into earth orbit an every day occurance.. Then we build (and obviously MAINTAIN) a space station .. using that for the basis of establishing a permanent pressence on the moon.. When we think we can land on the moon any time we want and stay there for as long as we like, THEN lets worry about mars. right now we need a safe, CHEAP method of getting payloads.. and people into earth orbit.. and bringing them back... and the shuttles arent it.. WAY too expensive.. and aswe have seen.. they are getting old. I think 2 separate systems are needed.. one for transporting fuel, food, equipment into space.. something like those large cannons IRAQ was building.. where we can just shoot a capsule (albeit a large one) up into orbit. We then have a craft up there that is piloted out to retrieve these capsules of fuel. We then need another method (hell rockets work fine for the Chinese) to get people into earth orbit to be retrieved by the same craft.. When we can put things into and out of space cheaply and safely as often as we like.. then we start building another moon mission.. colonise that.. have labratories.. factories.. etc etc on the moon.. THEN worry about getting to mars.
