you will be happy to know then that they are in the process of removing the class tree. You will pick your final class at lvl 1. From your posting I think its a while since you played EQ2 and alot has changed. Its almost a completely new game, and with the changes coming soon, I think its a definite step in the right direction. Alot of players have positive things to say about the removal of the class system and ebing able to choose your subclass at lvl 1. For example I could be a lvl 1 Ranger, or Guardian etc etc.

In recent times also was alot of class ballancing. Guardians are no longer the "best tank". All fighters tank supposedly equally well, but in different ways anat a high level it sort of works. The gear your wearing is very important, but for all intents and purposes they do tank pretty equally. For most raid content a guardian is still preferred but other well equiped tank classes can tank almost anything. Same goes with the healing classes, alot was ballanced across them. They generally all heal roughly the same, but in different ways.

All in all its a better game than 6 months ago IMO.

hmm.. well i'm a Solaris admin .. all day every day... the OS.. well its ok I guess.. *I* still much prefer Linux, it feels alot more like it was designed with speed, security, flexability and functionality in mind. What I hate the most about Soalris is the damn hardware. Crap, the lot of it. Just so difficult to operate when compared to stuff like HP X86 servers or IBM/Dell X86 serves. Linux/HP/Dell/IBM can do everything Solaris/Sun Hardware can do (yes even up to the scale of the 25ks) and is a hell of a lot easier to use/maintain. JBODs and SVM are SO 1990's.

I started a large, dumb green Ogre called Hulk. Not overly original but it had oodles of roleplay potential, especially with the speaking in the 3rd person gimmick .. "Hulk Mad !! Hulk want to kill!" etc etc .. people digged it.

It was a violation of the naming policy, and it got changed, to some weird name. I petitioned and changed it to "Ironhide" - it totally changed who the character was, all of the roleplaying that had come before didnt fit this new guy. I was still an Ogre Ranger (weird combo but by god it works well as a DPS/Artillery machine !), but i was no longer Hulk.. Hulk died and I had to start again at lvl 21 with Ironhide ...

I am more happier with the character now and actually wouldnt go back to Hulk even if it was allowed.. but you are exactly right Taco that there is way more to it than just the name .. the name is important..

I'm all about having fun just like the next person, but there comes a time when we have to stop and think, is this REALLY the kind of "fun" we want people to have? We're not doing ourselves any favors by promoting this kind of behavior. Alot of the people playing these kinds of games think its fine to do the things depicted in the game, but once order breaks down in the real world, where do you think they get the inspiration for their actions ? From the influences in their lives. While music, TV and video games continue to "idolise" these kinds of things, our society will be in decay.

  12. 6 of one half a dozen of the other... on The Pseudoscience of Intelligent Design · · Score: 0

alot of people shove ID type stuff in the religon corner when in fact alot of it is as rooted in science as evolution is. Its NOT out to prove the Bible, or try to tie any kind of events to the bible. I find it just as amazing how many people can just up and attribute our whole existance to pure chance, and not just any old pure chance but some REALLY large odds. I guess I am more inclined to believe that someone or something manipulated things a little to get them just right to support life. I dont think the earth and the universe just went "poof" and was created in 6 days, but I dont think it just went "poof" out of nothing for no reason either.

To accept the big bang theory you have to also accept that there was a cause to make that happen.. and with cause comes will and with will comes intelligence.. there had to be a reason and will behind the big bang. I'm more inclined to think that perhaps someone or something layed out a set of complex rules and then tweaked these as things went along. Used these rules to govern how things would work, to make things as autonomous as possible. Is it God ?.. perhaps.. but not in the classical sense I dont think. I dont think he is as concerned with us per say as he is with the over all everything and the way it runs. Our wars, suffering etc etc are our own devices, brought about by our own minds and souls. I think he's more of an observer

anyhow thats all subjective but my point is its just as incredible to beleive stuff just "happened" for no aparent reason and all this came about on pure luck. Those are some staggering odds. I once heard it expressed that the odds of things being just like it needed to be to make all of this happen is in the order of 1:more particles than exist .. not sure how they got those odss but thats pretty staggering.

btw interesting book to read : The Case For A Creator. If your any kind of open minded person you'll want to read both sides and this book explores the myths and untruths (according to the author) of evolution, backed by science and modern scientists. Aparently alot of modern scientists on the bleeding edge are being amazed by some of the things they see and find and its causing them to re-evaluate their faith and belief in a Inteligent Designer. I am sure alot of people will dismiss the book, but anyone who wants the "facts" (propoganda) from both sides will take a look and make up their own mind.

Its only scary when its a company like Microsoft. Your afraid of what happens when Google gets a monoply because your previous experience with monopolies was bad. "Dont be evil" says it all.

Your current reaction/apprehension/fear is a direct result of other companies being evil and seeking not to do good for the common man, but to line their own pocket. Google just happens to have hit on an attitude and ethos that in basic terms puts doing good first and reaping the rewards of doing good second. Just so happens it works really well. I for one hope other companies take notice that making a fun interesting work environment and promoting "the greater good" can be just as lucrative as being a snake in the grass and fouling up the internet with malware, spyware and virii. Google are the direct Anti-MSFT and i for one welcome our new benevolent non-evil overlords :)

Definately agree. 2 cases I have seen recently where someone who hasnt really "used" any OS wanted to try Linux. First person was a friend of mine who decided he wanted to get into IT, just on whim. He'd heard us discussing this Linux stuff so bought himself a PC (hadnt had one before) and downloaded FC3. With in 3 months he is Linux+ certified (not a big deal) and can use the OS to do anything he wants. He thinks its amazing, so simple, so easy. I got him to try Windows XP, last time he used a computer for anything major was Win95. He hated XP and is happy as can be with his Gnome/FC3. He's now looking around at other distros and learning stuff at an incredible rate. But my point is for someone who isnt familiar with either OS, either OS will do what they want just fine. Its when your set in your XP lazyness that Linux becomes difficult or confusing.

Second point is i got my wife using tools for her everyday tasks that exist on both OS's. She isnt a power user either, most of what she does is her mommies gorups, emails, web pages, gaim and little photo editing etc etc. All of which she used open source packages to do on windows. I decided to rebuild her downstairs PC with Gentoo. Took her a day to get used to KDE, and where to find her programs. Now she just does what she used too. She doesnt miss Win XP and couldnt care less that she is using Gentoo.

Kinda sad that I'm the tech guy and I'm the only XP user left in the house. Damn EQ2 and its inability to run on Linux.. hehe.
