    ...is that they usually seem to be about filling out a point to meet a word limit and not about getting to the point.

    I think this arises because "the point" is usually nothing profound in itself so the only thing you can do to stand out is blabber on in a particularly well way.

    Being a scientist I'm necessarily biased about anything that can be called an "essay". The closest thing in science is probably a review paper but that also should be as concise as possible.

    I blame schools.

    I didn't say it was just Switzerland, UK and France just mentioned them because CERN is IN Switzerland and France and a lot of the Grid is in UK.

    the E in CERN stands for European. of course there will be other nationalities involved since science is international but it's still a European centre.

    your joke being funny not withstanding, that's a map of America, probably the least relevant place to show for this particular project.

    CERN and Grid is European, notably Switzerland, France and UK.

    the USA has plenty of great particle physics of its own (excitable New Yorkers beware - there's a particle accelerator on your doorstep - think of the children!) but this is not one of them.

    I tried it, it was okay but crashed a bit. plus I couldn't get it to say that an event lasted from a certain time on one day until a certain time several days later.

    if they make it so I can sync with my P900 that'd be a big plus.

    no I think the "scientific" response would be to do a whole new protocol but one which allows compatibility with SMTP with large warning signs.

    just like General Relativity was an entirely new theory but gives the same results as Newton so long as you don't have large masses/high speeds etc.

    2. the Doom3 one is the main character whereas the HL2 one is just a random NPC.

    if you look into it, you'll find its mostly just textures and stuff.

    why can't you understand the concept that not every single file needs to be recompiled (or compiled at all) and tested.

    jesus. this isn't some crappy horror film where you need to retest all the .wavs on every build in case one was possessed by a demon and kills anyone who listens.

    wtf is Alabama English? you can't just make up your own languange and expect it to be supported. this is just arrogance. if you don't want to speak or type properly that's fine but you live with the consequences.

    it'd be like someone from London speaking cockney rhyming slang and expecting that to be understood.

    you should always speak in the most clear and correct way when making a non-personal phone call, including additional redundancy e.g. "A for apple".

    you can't be bothered doing this? tough.

    Get the crossfade plugin.

    XMMS+Crossfade is great for things like LOTR soundtrack or just regular albums where songs go over tracks - no horrible pauses.

    I just wish it had decent album management. imo Musicmatch Jukebox has the best library management system.
