It is extremely important that the music industry standardizes on one DRM,preferably investing lots of time money and reputations. This will save a lot of work and time in the long run.......;) think about it
Wrong....there's SW that works at the driver level to fix rpc2 drives, just do a search on the various dvd forums, You can probably find it on the page just mentioned;)
Now there's comparator software out there howabout someone running Open Source against Windows code out there in P2P land.... the results might be **interesting** to say the least
For the real tinfoil hat people out there, and having read all the posts (but not the article - this is/. after all ). Putting all the explanations together. We have what really happened which is: The U.S.(or persons unknown ) set off a fuel/air explosion over the possible site of the NK's nuclear test site, setting off a large forest fire, think that just about covers all the bases
A good few years ago I got given a new ( well only weeks old, and well worst the wear ) Toshiba gas plasma notebook,
It had been the property of my brother in law, an exec. with ibm at the time, never carries his own damn bags. He had taken it on a plane journey and the handlers had played catch with it, and missed, fell all the way down from the aircraft doors, probably 30 feet.
I took it apart, re-seated the screen which had fallen off, epoxied the case back together, and soldered a load of wires across the keyboard PCB which had cracked in half.
Ran for 7 years. kept all our business accounts and records faultlessly. Impressed the hell out of our bank manager when we showed him projections and figures and he gave us a loan, when we needed it. (It was top of the range then, and this was years ago, UK bankmanagers had heard of new technology, but where'nt sure what to do with it lol)
only gave up when a fork lift ran over it:(
As someone who might at some time need the coastguard ( I boat a lot ) I say hang 'em high, both the virus writter and the idiot who didn't patch, and while your at it, the moron who specced the system. Its not the fact that MS is any worse than linux software for bugs etc. BUT it is more at risk from virus attack so, all things being equal, the lower risk strategy is to pick Linux or similar in such a mission critical application.
A bit off topic, but a week or so ago there was a reality tv prog showing the coastguard/RNLI (RNLI is our volunteer rescue service for those not in the UK ) and some stupid moronic woman was hogging the rescue and calling channel 'for a laugh' these people should be removed from the gene pool too. ****RANT OVER****
"This is one more good reason for the war on everybody oops I mean terrorism, I have recieved reports from my inteligence services that someone is going to blow me.. oops sorry that was clinton.. up with a volcano"

....ever wondered... how many (clueless)people you don't know have you in their address book? well now with new improved Mydoom you never have to worry again... just check your emails for the results of this wonderful net tool ( shortly to become an integal part of longhorn by Microsoft)
Using this task order means that 2) is redundant and therefore has no impact on the result, therefore you do not need a secure system and can save money by purcasing a system off your friends
Honestly not a troll just an observation. Looking at it from this side of the pond (uk) and looking at the way business is conducted (or at least reported) you would think that this was Nigeria we are talking about and not the US! We see things like SCO (pondlife?-sorry pun) trying to come over here, the latest accounting scandal (todays is: worlds largest recruitment firm reports accounting irregularities in it's American operation) together with reports of the Bush administration feathering it's nest over Iraq etc and it seems like the actions of a tin pot dictatorship and not that of a modern democracy Sorry to be negative, the US is a great country I've been there several times and always been made welcome (probably won't be allowed in now, after posting this! ---tinfoil hat time)
and no one is going to believe it,(and I can't prove it) but I once managed 42 (answer to everything if you read douglas adams) on the River Mersey, mind you this was in the '70's and the river was more polluted then
I thought that was reality already......

I think you've fallen for the oldest trick in the book of dis-information, placeing one piece of information next to another and assuming they are related. it is irrelevant whether he co-wrote or distributed DeCSS, despite what RIAA et al would like you to think. his reason was to help/allow fair use, by allowing him to play a movie he had purchased on hardware he had purchased.... THAT was the reason for his innocence. Whether this applies in this case is another matter, but even if it doesn't I have some sympathy with him after being fcuk'ed around by the pigopolists so much I would look for a way to hit back too.
This analogy has been used a few times before....However its not strictly true, On the net you can visit the seedier areas relativly safely, at least physically! Indeed it could be argued that this can be a good thing at least for older children 's education... but as has been said many times in this thread there is nothing that compares with a proper education from one's parents, and as a parent of 2 boys 13 and 15, all I can hope is that they are old enought to know what they are doing... afterall it wasn't so long ago that boys of this age when off to war......... as a postscript I checked the eldests logs the other day and found some (fortunately, softcore) porn sites, as a responsible parent I showed him how to erase his logs and clear his files properly much as my father at a similar age advised I wear a condom. A mature discussion is I feel much more likely to result in him informing me if anything inappropriate occurs.
Well we used to call them sausages, but now due to the EU rules we have to be more honest and call them 'HIGH FAT OFFAL Tubes'.... at least we have proper bacon here tho':-)
Tried to find the story from the CNN front page, almost impossible it's so well hidden... or maybe its just me!.... or (dons tinfoil hat) maybe it's only there to appease the usual suspects (us!)
This is the same argument used in the 2600.com case for linking to DeCSS, looks like they'll have a more difficult job pursuading an Australian judge.... we can but hope!
An important point overlooked often is that for a law to be effective it must be be supported by a large majority of the population, at least in a democracy. It must also be seen to be fair. The copyright laws have been seen as unfair since the Disney case, when it became obvious that copyright was no longer a limited time monopoly, as you quote. But became effectivly a monopoly for all time, thus depriving the general population of a right they previously enjoyed and leading to the general contempt in which these laws are now held. The law of unintended consequences is the only law thats always held true!
1) they don't gice a Sh*t about world (I.E. US ) opinion
2) They support their own countries interest above all, WITHOUT hypocracy and pretending is for the good of the world
3)If their population decides they don't like a political decision they riot, and the Politicians actually LISTEN and change policy
Maybe TPTB (The Powers That Be) would rather everyone where just obedient serfs and would rather people did not emulate them
I'm English so I'll be called a traitor:)!
Did you know that the V sign made with the first 2 fingers actually comes from the habit of the English Longbow men holding up their bow fingers to the French after Agincourt to show they had won , the French used to cut off captured archers fingers, it was considered unsporting of the English for their common born bowmen to massacre French aristocratic Knights

Just a thought...but as you are paying for the copy protection.. doesn't fair use allow you to break it?

Obviously, these are going to be the next 'terrorist' threat to the net, (solar flares affect the power cables and can and have cause outages)
