Apple is not that spectacular in terms of choosing chips for performance, from their past history. M68k: good chip, but it was suffering from old age when they moved to PowerPC. (They could have moved to x86, arm, or other processor at that time.) Now, they announce they are moving to Intel, and suddenly Intel has some super-duper chip up their sleeve? I don't think so.
Spoken like a true apple zealot- I wonder myself if big, old Intel can shake the curse of providing chips to Apple Computer. If Intel starts bumping their clock speed 50 MHz a year, don't say you haven't been warned... beware Apple as a customer!!
Lawyer: But what about that tattoo on your chest? Doesn't it say, "Die Lotus, Die?"
Bob: [conciliatorily] No, that's German for "The Lotus, The."
[The spectators laugh, understanding]
Officer: No one who speaks German could be an evil man.
Actually, if you're watching the mouse when someone holds down the control key, you see the mouse change. A small box with horizontal lines appears to the lower-right of the mouse, letting you know that if you click, you will get a contextual menu. Good point about learnability though. Command, shift and option clicks don't provide such visual feedback however. I generally use sticky keys with pressed modifier keys displayed on the screen during demos for people who want to learn about such features.
have you forgotten the other company Steve Jobs runs? as CEO of Pixar, he has a serious interest in protecting against rampant copyright infringement, aka piracy. I'm 95% certain that I've even read interviews with him stating his commitment to DRM but I can't seem to find a link atm.
Combine this with the inevitable internet Movie store that's supposed to be based loosely around the Mac Mini (also rumored to be one of the first Macs to make the switch to Intel) and the rest of the lineup and you have the perfect confluence of reasons for DRM to be a factor in this decision. they'll have to pry my DRM free hardware from my cold dead fingers, but I suspect they just won't let me in to the party instead.
*note to moderating Mac zealots: i am a certified kool-aid drinking Mac zealot. Please don't mod me down just because I think critically about Apple's actions at times.

I definitely recommend that everyone see fight club and no, it was definitely not supposed to be funny. The main character becomes disillusioned with the bullshit of modern life and seeks to return society to a more primitive, visceral form of living. An interesting movie to say the least.
who modded me troll?!!? tell me this isn't the most boring Apple update in the modern Steve era. I usually spend a couple hours on the day new Macs are announced poring over the differences. I didn't even need to look for five minutes to know that there wasn't much to see.
Funny- I just sent yahoo an email about my displeasure that some of their services were Windows only (I was tweaked specifically by not being able to use Yahoo! Avatar). Imagine my surprise to discover today that perhaps their response that they were working on it was not just lip service. Is this squeaky wheel really gonna get the oil? Here's hoping fewer companies treat non-Windows platforms as second-class citizens...
Heh- I'm glad you have a sense of humor. When I saw that someone had already replied, I dreaded having to explain my joke to an OBSD zealot without a sense of humor. Of course, we all tend to forget about Poland's strengths until our fearless leader sees fit to remind us. How about this:
NetBSD: no flames in the default install, in more than 8 years!
you got a little something there on your post. there- on the lower right. it looks like a winky butt-face. you might want to have a doctor check that out. i hope it's not contagious.;3 egads!
I'm with you. How many movies have shown the benefits of doping up the crowd? It worked in The History of the World Part 1. It worked in Up in Smoke. Why don't we just get our enemies high?
well... considering that the name of the file is presented as you mouse over them in exposé, it would avg to ((N windows)/2) * the speed at which you read) provided that you know the name of the file you're adding the code to.
can't really say much about windows drag&drop implementation. everytime i used it, i ended up with a link instead of a copy and stopped using it. granted, i've never invested much time to figure it out or extend my knowledge. hence the reason i said "at least on os x that is. don't know about that other os."
and hopefully most os x users know to hit esc when they want to cancel as it is nearly universally implemented as the cancel button in the OS. if you've been arguing that drag&drop sucks because you're only familiar with the windows implementation, then i think we've finally found a place to agree and end this pointless thread. phew...
escape has long been used to cancel actions. it was one of the first things i learned when i started using computers in the first grade. who would have thought that would still hold true twenty years later?
for one who claims to dislike the CLI and Drag&Drop, what do you like? (don't answer- it's a rhetorical question. I actually prefer using the cmd/ctrl key combos myself. my sole point in responding at all was to inform you that the esc button works as expected for cancelling d&d actions. ) HAND
"Once you start dragging it's not always clear how to cancel; "
I was just responding to this assertion. It is clear. You hit escape. That is all... On a side note- are you an emacs man? They're the ones who complain the loudest about using the escape key. It's got a unique position that's easy to find, even if you are blind.
really? you think you can fold back 14 windows before you can figure out which window to drop the item into? and what if you just spread application windows instead of all windows?
you can always cancel a drag by hitting escape. you can almost always cancel anything by hitting escape. at least on os x that is. don't know about that other os.
this is perhaps the stupidest thing I've seen moderated insightful in several months. First, you clearly meant Windows 2k5 for PPC64 (aka G5). Secondly, Apple could hardly care as long as you purchased a g5 to run it. Hell, Apple sells Microsoft products in the Apple store right now (Office, VPC + Windows). Why would they care that you run Windows once they've sold you the hardware? Terrasoft, the makers of yellow dog linux, are authorized resellers of Apple hardware and MS would certainly be authorized too.
Apple is a HARDWARE company that also happens to make much better software than your run-of-the-mill monopoly. They don't give a damn what you do with it after you've paid them.
ps This rant is directed at the mods- as your comment would sit very well at +3 funny (maybe +4 on a slow day)

How can you call it a zero-day exploit with a straight face when you found it in the wild??

why is this flamebait? the resize windows UI element IS on the bottom-right. don't penalize him for being correct.
