That you would say Ubuntu should've contacted you guys restores some of my faith that Debian won't die on the desktop anytime soon.

Debian is a great base for a distribution. Many distros have been based on it, and it's an extremely robust and functional Linux distro. That being said, it really does need a peppier update cycle, and hopefully the two of you can make that happen.

They're more concerned that someone else is getting your money (the modchip makers). They'd rather have you buy a new system for that particular region. If they make it so that those are universally illegal, Sony will be shooting themselves in the foot. A. their customers will not buy a system to play the imported title. b. they won't generate revenue from the sales of thsoe imported titles, and C. They'll make their customer base bitter.

He's new, he's hip, he's funny, and like all the Dr's (except Mr. Grumpy-pants Doc #1..)...he rushes from thought to thought like he can't spew them out fast enough. Christopher Eccelston, did a little research on him. Not only has he been in a few feature films, but he's done a lot of theatre. I expect good things to come from him. Word processing, it'd be a close tie. There are some things I like about Word that I can't get with StarOffice, or OpenOffice, but I can do just about as much.

Server admin. Linux I love and I feel I'm way more productive. I might have to take a little extra time to get things going, but once it's done, it's done. I never have to touch it again, unless I need to change something. Windows on the other hand, it's finicky, flakey, and 99 flavors of wrong.

Gaming, windows. I hate to say it, but Linux just isn't there for me. I can play on Windows with half the horsepower that I can on Linux. (Bearing in mind that I'd have to use Cedega to play most of the games I play in order to use them in Linux, and I'd require almost twice the processing power and memory bandwidth). That being said, if it's written for NATIVE linux, I can do the same thing as I can do on a window box with less horsepower. (linux is just that much more effecient IMHO.)

compiling software. I think Linux has windows beat, hands down. Nothing says love like a self-configuring makefile.

Multi-tasking. Linux, by far. I love being able to switch from the gui and go into the console and run commandline apps apart from the gui and that are independant of the gui. SO even in the rare event the gui DOES crash, (albeit less often than windows), I can kill the gui without disrupting my other things.

It really depends. I have 2 linux machhines, and 1 dedicated windows box. However I look forward to the day when I'm completely free of the microsoft monkey.

    For example:

If Merek bio-engineered some corn to produce anti-aging corn products for sale the public, then they would be subjeted to the royalty scheme.

If Farmer Bob genetically engineered a cow to make chocolate milk, but the milk was only used for personal consumption, then he would not be subject to royalties.
