Sorry, no you're wrong, arrogant human. You can't use mathematics to prove anything about the universe because mathematics is itself just a limited abstract language that humans invented to describe relationships between things -- it's not a "real" thing. Our mathematics is in no way complete, or even representational of the true nature of the universe. Trying to "prove" anything about the universe doesn't even make sense because there could always be another turtle underneath. All you can do is make probabilistic suppositions.

  3. Name one single thing that humans have ever done that has benefited the planet for anything except humans. Time to wake up and realize that we're not as smart as you think. We have absolutely no idea how to calculate the outcomes of these types of things. We can't even solve Klondike Solitaire, and you think we can predict the outcome of releasing hordes of genetically modified organisms into the global ecosystem which is populated by at least 5 million individual species?

The author sounds like that turd from Dead Poets Society that tried to define good poetry using his stupid 2D grid. Good design is a design that people like to use and gets its job done. Nothing more. And considering the popularity of Apple products I'd say they're doing it right.

  9. Re: D'oh! on Ask Slashdot: Whatever Happened To the 'Year of Linux on Desktop'? · · Score: 1, Flamebait

Exactly. People can bash Apple all they want but when it comes down to it, Apple's shit works. They control the hardware and the software which means they can focus on a small set of configurations and do it well, instead of everyone else who has to try to support and infinite number of configurations and never really getting it right. Everything non-Apple is a support nightmare. And even if there is a problem you just go to the Apple store and they fix it. Good luck finding an ASUS store to bring your laptop to in an emergency.

Wake up, dude. Normal people don't want to have to spend an hour on google trying to find out how to change some setting specific to the one of dozens of different distros that they have and then learn how to su to root on a command line and then learn how to use vi to edit some bullshit text config file buried in /etc just to change one thing. Linux is dogshit in that regard. Designed by nerds who don't mind spending hours fucking around with that shit because they have no other life to get back to, but regular people have no time or interest in that kind of shit. I like Linux, but this is the problem with Linux enthusiasts. They are completely out of touch with reality, which is why Linux won't be on the desktop for a long time if ever.
