  2. It also brings the risk of some truly epic fuck-ups that affect them and not other companies that didn't try to roll their own outside of their areas of core expertise.

    But it protects them from exploits that would affect other companies that used commodity parts.

    How do you know they're not working on the other 95%? All endeavors that are beneficial to the planet should be applauded, no matter how small. Just the fact that China is even starting to acknowledge and address these issues is a positive thing.
