FYI - Everyone that wants an Apple computer should buy from the education store. Apple doesn't check most purchases, and most people know someone who is in school right?
I bought mine this way, and Im surprised anyone buys at the regular store.
Imagine your boss having to choose between hiring you and someone else who may only be slightly less qualified. The other person doesnt care about the contract but you do. Your boss also isnt the one making these legal agreements and in most companies has a snowballs chance in hell of getting them changed.
Odds are if you make it an issue they will go with the other person unless you really stand out.
Not to be redundant, But I use Etrade for banking and stocks and it works fine in Safari and Mozilla. I have also used Ameritrade, and I uses several financial sites for work.
I use several different email and news sites regularly and havent found any that dont work right.
Some will occasionally have very minor display issues.
MSN/MSNBC will have features that dont support other browsers but thats to be expected from MS.
*BTW Explorer is my preferred browser on my XP machine.
You GPL people miss the point. With the BSD license a company can take the open source product "X version 5" and make a commercial product from it. "X version 5" is still BSD and the open source coders lose nothing except what the commercial entity added. People are still free to continue to improve it and do whatever they want with it. With the GPL the commercial company would have to release everything.
Like the other poster said, if you just want to use a small 1 function snippet or library you now have to release everything, even if you dont change the original.
People always complain about MS "stealing" BSD networking code, well does the MS tcp/ip stack work better than BSD? No, it doesnt, it could be argued that we have better interoperability thanks to them using it as a foundation.
The parent poster and I are NOT bashing the GPL, we are just pointing out that it is NOT free and without restriction.
This, and other silent pc type products, is not for overclockers or someone who has 5 case fans.
Anyway, you can buy silent case fans, video card fans or heat pipes, and silent cpu fans.
I used to have a dual P3 1ghz, with a similiar power supply, 2 silent cpu fans, no case fan, and a video card (GeForce 4 MX) without a fan. Unless you put your ear up to the system you couldnt tell it was on.
In summary a poor application and dumb users are your problem with windows.
As a user of OS X I can confirm that yes OS X does have windows that get stuck with the spinning beach ball. The difference is that in windows I see it happen with third party apps with OS X it happens with system utilities and third party apps.
You can fix 95% of 2,3,and 4 by using a non MS web browser and email client as well as keeping your machine patched. Linux people always brag about the virtues of choice yet seem to forget at times that you also have a choice (a bigger one usually) on windows.
Yes I know MS definately has more problems but in the past few months I have had just as many OSX (desktop) and Linux (servers) patches as I have had for my XP gaming machine.
Most of the unemployed IT workers are the types who have never setup a real server. These people used to be secretaries or auto mechanics and thought they would go into the IT biz via a cram session school and get rich.
IT also doesnt mean programmer. People doing support type positions are probably not very good at software development just like good developers usually arent good at network/systems administration.
I dont know any good developers who are having trouble finding work.
I recently saw a bright yellow pinto with custom chrome rims, a scoop on the hood (for a turbo?), custom seats, and a shifter topped with a skull. I wish I had my camera with me.
Looked cool but only ran for half of the time I had it. It leaked oil like crazy and I could never get it fixed right.
The headlight motors also burned out constantly so I got to the point where I just left them up and didnt replace them.
I also had a few transmission problems including getting stuck in 3rd gear.
Oh yeah I had 10-12 different recalls on it ranging from the engine compartment fire shield, to another problem where the breaks might completely fail.
I hear by 88 (the last year of production) they had worked out most problems though and they still valued to be used as kit cars.
I used some custom DSP's from TI, some RF modulators from Radio Shack and some standard 12 guage wire. Works better than most commercial solutions costing hundreds more.
But if intel can have a 20 stage chip that peaks at 3 ghz for example and does 30 mflops of work or have a 30 stage chip that peaks at 6 ghz and does 50 mflops of work then the 6ghz is better.
These are just example numbers. Intel pays its chip designers good money and they arent stupid. They may favor one strategy over another and now have competition from AMD and IBM but im pretty sure it will be a decent chip.
Not much real demand at all for CCNA's. People that are going to use cisco usually have larger networks. They dont want entry level people working on a large network. Its definately a catch 22, you need real experience from a job but you cant get real experience with out the job.
The best thing to do is cross train, get a related job like systems administration and then try to help out or move into a position.
A lot of HR people will put CCNA on a job posting just to fluff the requirements. When people look for cisco certifications they look for CCNP, or more likely a CCIE.
BTW, the CCIE requires a hands on lab test, which is what I think Microsoft should do for the MCSE to restore some value to it.
Did he say he doesnt know anyone involved, or they didnt use his computers?
I read the mirror and I didnt see anything about it. If hes guilty, or did have anything to do with this then they should be able to take his computers and serve a search warrant. Try looking at this from law enforcements perspective. Im not some Nazi who supports gestapo like law enforcement either, I just didnt read anything that seemed wrong to me.
Everyone is biased, some more than others, the key is reading multiple news sources occasionally and making your own mind up. This may sound obvious but I get people all the time that repeat crap they heard on the news without giving it any independant thought.
I agree with the FOX news comment, I consider myself more republican than democrat but I cant stand the site.
There was a recent story about an older guy who worked at a nuclear plant who was fired because he couldnt get a good scan on the fingerprint scanners anymore.
I know your joking, but I work with several people who cant get good scans on our readers.
Yes comcast is doing this all over, I can download at 350K/sec now up from about 250.
Comcast still sends these warnings out. They are trying to get more customers, they just want customers that dont use it much. From what I understand the policy and warnings seem to happen more in certain areas though.
This kinda makes sense until you look at the numbers more.
If you cut off the top 1% of your users and sample the remaining it will still look like you should cut off another 1% since they are now the top talkers.
For every porn maniac downloading gigs of porn you have a bunch of other users at the bottom 1% who check mail once a day and thats it.
You will always have a top 1% and a bottom 1% of users. This is just the same as dial-up and all you can eat buffets. If its advertised as unlimited it should be priced with this in mind.
The sad reality of hiring is most of the time the decision makers are clueless. Try looking at some of the requirements HR types put on job postings. Large companies have to pass questions for job interviews by lawyers to make sure they wont get sued. A lot of companies hire almost everyone as a contractor first then full time to make sure they get someone useful because HR hiring and firing policies are such a joke.
Besides the job market is tight for most people and beggars cant be choosers.
The printer is $99 after a 50 dollar rebate but they make it by up charging 75 bucks for each chemical refill.

When did UNIX and Linux become big computer companies?

This site has a lot of tips and equipment, including case and cpu fans, to silence your PC.

Your steps are a bit redundant, why not add
* open the door to you house
* go inside
* turn computer on
* wait for computer to boot
You dont need to start Itunes, it starts automatically when you dock the iPod.
You also dont need to pick playlists.
Unless its the first time docking you dont need to wait a while either its basically instant.
You want a complaint about waiting to syncing 10+ gigs wirelessly and compare that to a firewire or usb2 sync.
Yeah I do think the iPod is a bit overpriced and Im not an Apple zealot but if your gonna complaint at least be accurate.
There was a recent story about an older guy who worked at a nuclear plant who was fired because he couldnt get a good scan on the fingerprint scanners anymore.
