ah Jet Set Willy. What a classic, every time I hear the music these days I start twitching uncontrollably. Anyone remember the huge competition that PCW (I think) ran to win everything that was available for the Spectrum, it had something to do with finding hidden places in Ant Attack - that weird isometric rescue game.

Most friendly fire incidents have little to do with technology and more to do with the human factors involved - lack of discipline, poor chain of command, tired and/or inexperienced ground controllers, tired and/or inexperienced pilots, bad map reading and so on.

If I remember correctly, ever since one of the weddings in Afganistan that was tragically bombed, F16 and possibly other pilots have been experimenting with using tablet PCs strapped to their legs with GPS and mapping software to give them a better fix on their real time location.

Ever had to use it ? How do you know ? This comment applies to all the other posters who are carrying concealed weapons.

As has been mentioned elsewhere in this thread, one the best ways to not get mugged is to have some situational awareness.

If, god forbid, your guard drops and you are confronted by someone with a gun - what are you going to do ? he (assuming it's male) presumably has it drawn and pointed at you - you reach for your gun, he shoots you. You tell him calmly that you "are carrying a weapon" - he's going to say "hand it over then" - you say "no", he shoots or he's going to say "prove it" - you reach for the gun and he shoots you. Hand over the stuff and he might run away with it - he'll want to save bullets anyway.

My point is carrying a concealed weapon isn't the be all and end all of the situation - it's much more complicated than you make out.

Personally, I wonder why you feel it necessary to carry so much around, dump the PDA or the lappy - or use a PDA that you can listen to music on.

Probably because the raids on Dresden happened over a period of two days not fifty seven ish (for the period generally considered the Blitz, not including other raids at other times or the V1/V2 attacks). The death toll was much higher - the second waves were designed to specifically cause more chaos by bombing the rescue attempts of the first. Some people complain about the Dresden raid because Dresden wasn't a huge military complex and therefore was of no value as a target whereas clearly London had a more significant value. I'm not saying the blitz wasn't terrible, the firebombing of Dresden was pretty horrific as well, but put in the context of WW2 neither were that significant.
