    Well, the fact that now a lot more people is happily using GNU/Linux in their everyday lives than 10 or 5 years ago. Linux is evolving, and becoming mainstream really fast.

    regarding to that "| grep -v grep" thingy, here's a cool trick:
    use somthing like "grep [k]onqueror" -- this command do not catches itself thanks to regexp

    so, serious note aside and continuing your joke, i would modify our post this way:

    s/^\(.*\)grep\s.*-v\sgrep\(.*\)|\sxargs/kill -9 `\1grep -v \[k\]onqueror\2`/

    you know, i doubt there's so much konquerrors to overflow `kill`'s argument list anyway

    Well, seems like you have "CONSOLE=/dev/console" option enabled in /etc/default/login, so it permits root logins only on that device.
    But allowing anyone to get a system access under 'bin' user or 'daemon' user is still pretty fucking insane!

    Your mileage will vary, until Linux gets better simpler support for hardware, especially with regards to X, ive yet to get X to run without having to abuse myself relearning conf files, don't even compare them to windows.

    Maybe if someone donate his time|skills in programming, testing and supporting, instead of taking for granted and whinning about more? :)

    Maybe if vendors at least _try_ to be linux friendly with hardware, drivers and specifications?

    Maybe if linux (and OSS in general) developers get better plain materialistic support with some $$$ from users?

    Maybe if some game-industry giants supported linux as well?

    btw, take a look at Ubuntu. I think they won the "Gramma-compatible" award ;)

    It's not exactly a new idea. I wouldn't be surprised if password cracking software already had the option to automatically include 1337speak in the search.

    There's no common standard of "how to 1337ify". Everyone do it in his own way. So, if you can 1337ify every symbol in, say, 3 different ways, it's 4 times harder to guess it. I think it'll be much more extra characters. Something like p -> |> will also produce extra length.
