I was talking to a friend the other day and we were laughing about our old systems. I remember having a conversation where we said "What on earth would you do with a 1GHz processor?" or "I got this new 1GB HDD and it should last me a couple years at least!"
30GB email boxes seem rediculous now but don't discount them. It's hard to imagine now but someday in the not too far future we will be laughing about how we somehow managed to get by with our 500MB hotmail account or our tiny 2GB GMail accounts!
Hey wait a minute! Back in 1901 Canon had a printer that had seperate head and ink wells. In fact, the heads would dry up all the time.
Yes...we know....maybe 3000 more posts will help HP realize the error of their ways.
Did anyone else have a seperate head/ink printer? Anyone...Bueller?
I swear if one more stupid ass moron posts a "Didn't Canon/Epson do this years ago" comment I'm going to scream. Look you idiots, do you really think after 100 people have already posted, that you are the only person that has come up with this idea!? RTFA and the older posts before spouting off your brilliantly insightful thoughts.
Gawwdd!!! It's like teaching highschool.
Did you read the "actual letters" listed in the article? They are rediculous examples!
Here is basically how they all go:
Dear Fred,
I bought a car a month ago but now it doesn't start. I've been driving it every day to work but for some reason it died on the freeway and won't start."
Hey idiot, you didn't put gas in it!!!
Same thing, these people who are qouted in this article should not be within 10feet of a computer.
Maybe it's because I'm young and new, but why would people trust a system that has a record of failing? The blue screen of death is a big joke in the world. Why would airports, banks, the military, etc. trust Windows? I'm not trolling, this is an honest question. It's not the price. Is it because they think it is more robust, easier setup, compatibility?
I was in Europe and saw the blue screen on an airport terminal and thought, wow, I hope the crucial systems on my plane or in the control tower are not running Windows!
I wonder what other applications this could be used for. Maybe I'm wrong, but alot of people do NOT need this intense of security. They may want it, but a deadbolt would be sufficient. If someone does break into my apartment, the most the can take are a couple of computers, the cost of setting up this system would be as much as what I'd be securing. Perhaps it could be low-cost/opensource security solution for school computer labs.
With that said, what else could this be used for? Besides the normal childish pron/watching your babysitters jokes. How about Environmental monitoring?
With prices low and available clock cycles high, why would someone waste their time/energy/space finding archaeic uses for these machines? Sure, I believe in recycle/reuse, I use old boxes for servers or play toys for the kids, but come on! Once it reaches a certain point it's time to say goodbye.
I believe more information is leaked then we know about. Not necessarily by the "bad guys." I work in a University Computer Lab and use the paper in the recycling bin for scratch. I pull out student's administration papers with their name, SSN, address, DOB. All written and thrown in the bin by students themselves. It would be easy to copy these down and apply for a credit card. People in general need to be more careful with their information. l
I am confused to the politics of energy, why are there not more wind turbines in America? I spent time in Germany and they seem to be everywhere. Also in Norway they have them in the water. Is it the cost or what??
They seem to be a great source of "green energy."
It seems like fossil fuels are not the only answer. We can control nuclear energy but we can't make a non-fossil fuel car??? How is this possible? I may not know a lot about this subject but it seems like if we spent 1/10 the amount of money into research of this field as we do into looking for more oil, a non-fossils fuel alternative would have been found.
Just call me H. Simpson, no wait that is too obvious. Make the Homer S. Doh!

If Microsuck can not even keep it's own operating system from being hacked and pirated, how is it going to keep it's email systme from being hacked and pirated. I can see everyone "paying" to use email while the spammers hack the system and pay nothing. And we'll still get a crude-load of spam!!

Finally! Evidence of a 'Weapon of Mass Destruction'! I knew if we just waited long enough it would be found.

At what point does Google go from hip, cool company to overbearing, monopolistic, Microsoft company? It seems public opinion is a bit fickle.
