I have, over the course of time, changed email providers several times. In at least one case, I have forgotten the password to a frequently used site (a re-install cleared my firefox password cache), and the password was emailed to an email address on a service I no longer use.

WoW is an interactive novel that plays out with *you* as the lead protagonist. It doesn't matter that thousands of others have killed the scarlet commander mograine. Thousands of other people have also read LOTR.
A lot of the system slowdown on Windows boxes can be traced to explorer. Explorer is a single threaded application, and when used on a network, over time it tends to collect many network relative paths to resources like icons. Later the network shares dissapear or are moved. The result is, every time explorer tries to generate lists of icons to display for files it pauses - using 0% CPU - waiting for non existant network hosts to respond.
Hell. The only reason I ahve a cellphone is so I can SMS and call people. As such, if the independent software market for cellphones is killed off in its entireity, boo hoo.
Now that I have 5 WoW characters in their 40-50's...
When, when is Blizzard going to release World of Diablo II, so I can cancel my WoW account and play the *real* MMO I always wanted to play?
Its actually because drag and drop, under MS Windows isn't managed by the window manager, but by the object linking and embedding sub-system (OLE). For - what are probably security related issues, OLE doesn nor provide a way to query a window handle for its drag drop handler. Because MS sem to ahve decided in this one case to NOT abuse undocumented functions, the shell's taskbar has no extra access that other application programs can't get - It simply cannot proxy the drag and drop even if it wanted to.
I got a copy of Glapogos bundled with one of the Wing Commander games. It sucked. I cant belive anyone had the patience to try and train that fucking spider. It walked off things, fell off edges. It got fried by laser beams. It was a fucking stupid AI bot in a fucking stupid game. The only "training" that game does is teaching humans to go into some sort of switched off must-click-mouse-button over and over trance state.
Then I got Black and White, and discovered that machine learning AIs in games could get even worse.
I've seen it argued that its safer to not try too hard. If you try to deploy any system to prevent piracy, you then run the risk of becomming liable for piracy that occours if the system fails.

Now that I think about it, I dont know how I perfer it. Two basic ways come to mind:
1. Setup the site with raw images. This means the default context menu works - Save As, Open in Tab, Open In New Window.
2. Sites with an image browser. Once a thumbnail is clicked, then you can use next and prev to step between images. In which case I tend to open the image browser in a tab.
Point being that a site that opens in a new window tends to break my tabbed browsing, and also breaks the context menu functionality.

Unfortunately I have lost the link, but there was an interview with an ex MSFT who has setup a company with the express purpose of dealing, and profiting only from leasing out a large stable of patents. Yes he intended to hire software engineers, but they were never to actually produce anything tangible - other than a stream of patents.
Their method of 'work' was to, perhaps once a week or month, throw the engineers into a room, to eat snacks and brainstorm while being recorded. Lawyers would then go over the recordings to extract any worthwhile 'ideas' and patent them.
Now, im sorry, but when it comes to 'novel' and 'unobvious' as pre-requsites for a patent, I imagine someone like Thomas Edison, slaving away in his workshop for years and finally producing the lightbulb and associated patent applications.
Not a bunch of dorks sitting in a room basically going 'won't it be neat when X could be done in software'.

In a state based model, the server (and client) would continuously spam each other with updates regarding the state of mobs. Lost packets means that a mob's state isnt updated for a frame, but generally another state update will be along soon that will be fresh anyway, so asking for a resend would be redundant anyway.
Most games, WoW included, transmit events rather than poll status and thus (would) benefit from TCP.
I dont know what you are smoking, but VoIP without in-order sequenced packets is pretty damned unintelligable.
Likewise, MP games also need sequenced packets or the game physics goes really weired. And dropped packets means mobs just go missing / commands are ignored. Unless you implement re-send logic at which point youve bloody re-invented TCP. But badly.
Please actually THINK about the rammifications of what you are spouting next time.

Clearly, you are clueless. When comparin gUDP to TCP, UDP is *always* the wrong solution.
Why? Because writing code that actually CAN tolerate packetloss is a very hard problem. So hard in fact that no one does it. The first thing every MMO that uses UDP does is implement a re-transmit on suspected dropped packet logic. Which means they would have been better off just using TCP.
Depending on your realtime requirements you can disable tcp naggle and perhaps some other options.
I'd rather, frankly, have packets that are late than no packets at all.

In an event based model, events - being button clicks by the player, or the results of combat rolls on the server, are transmitted accross the wire. If nothing happens, no data is transmitted. Packet loss implies that events are lost.
