There is definetly a large need to stop the excessive Patents. Microsoft will go as far as to start Patenting Open Source code if no one else has. I have to say the Patent Busting Competition is one of my favorites. I am running a fight semi-assoicated with the EFF at http://www.uberhacker.com, we are trying to stop the CyberCrime treaty which may shutdown sites like Zone-H or Security-Focus
The same is especially true in PHP. The short learning curve for getting started in the language allows for a great deal of insecure coding on the internet. I run a site that promotes secure programming, and is running a security challenge for writing scripts as well. The URL is http://www.uberhacker.com
I can't count the number of times a Terminal Emulator has either saved me from boredom, or prevented me from booting into Windows. Nothing like playing Crusader or Warcraft II in Linux.
There are many other soloutions with the "one program that won't run" problem. There is VMware, WINE, and of course open source alternatives for that program. Often times people just need to spend a bit of time working and looking (20 minutes) and they can solve their own problems without going through a complex solution.
A study testing Java to C in speed has already been performed 6 months ago (predating this study). Please check http://web.ics.purdue.edu/~jpkaylor/trig.html for the original information.
First off, this is charity, not a company. These PCs would be used for home use, a.k.a: word proccessing, scientific projects. Second, you would match the speed of the PC with the install of the OS. This can easily be done with config disks coupled with a CD.
A simple control, or PocketPC (if you can afford it) should suffice. Check out some Linux projects that feature Tivo and Media system like projects. If you can't get control configs to work out well, try a VNC client with a PocketPC, a bit expensive, but great control.
Linux would be a better choice because the Liscence is free. It would not be a very low cost, and wide reaching program if you payed 100$ for a Windows distro each time.
I say to "shaft" companies like Dell\HP start community projects to refurbish old PCs is good working order. You could install a simple Linux distribution such as Mandrake on them. Then, give them out to underprivileged children. Just a thought, would be quite an undertaking.
Is a Windows 95/98 port to the PocketPC a very usefull tool ? Win. 95/98 is designed to be usefull and (somewhat) functional for a desktop enviroment. The Pocket PC version of Windows is a far more usefull tool. It have features built in that PocketPCs are used for, and it does not drag down your resources nearly as much as 98/95.
The Dragon Runner is a definete improvement to the impractical (at least in it's current state) Dragon Eye. It will be much easier for a person to operate a small vehicle that is a bit more "stealthy" that a small plane. With the Dragon Eye, there were far too many variables for any combat troop to use with any real practicality.
I run the Uberhacker website.
This site is dedicated to secure PHP programming. We are currently
running a Gauntlet challenge
to see who can create the most secure scripts of a specific type. This
round, the challenge is to create an Article Submition
System.
I think improvement can still happen as far as internet standards go with Longhorn. Mozilla is making far too much head way in the browser market for Microsoft to ignore. I think they will have to "develop" new tech. before Longhorn to keep anyone buying it.
I realize this is not an American probe, but the American example of Metric\American system is a prime example of things that generally go wrong on these type of missons. Generally simple, easy to avoid things are the prime kickers. While hind site is 20/20, I think some increased quality control would be quite usefull.
I find Mandrake to be a great flavor for beginning users to try. It is a very powerfull, fullfledged distribution of Linux, and it provides a very easy and comfortable enviroment. Most of all, the installs are a breeze for beginners. It even makes a dual boot with Windows fairly easy.
Well, the specifications of the Board and proccessor capabilities (which are very nice), may fit the Longhorn minimum standards reported on Slashdot a while back. Maybe we will be able to hit their recommended standards in three or four more years.
Finally someone has told SCO in a court of law to "Put up" which will hopefully end with the "shut up". I wonder how many customers they will lose, or possibilty the insuing lawsuits for slander and purjury.
I have experience a fair share of Tech-Support mishaps. Most of the problems stem from the fact that the people who are diagnosing your problem are reading through a "cue-card" type program. They ask you questions, and their little program is "supposed" to find the problem. That is probably why you get some idiotic responses. Just remember "reboot", the ultimate solution for tech-support.
Okay, I really hate flambaint annoying posting, but this is an exception. You don't have to read EULA to figure out that it is adaware. Use some common sense !! It does not take a genious to find these things out. At the very least, run some sort of adaware like program to get rid of spyware.
Well... education is the best tool. Teach your son how to avoid such sites. Generally they are worthless and ad filled. Education, not ignorance is the best policy;)
I don't recall anyone ever being given the option of being stabbed and saying yes. If you are ignorant enough to say yes to a stabbing, then you have some other issues. I advocate education over ignorance my friend.
I wonder if they will actually get anywhere. While Spyware is annoying and intrusive, the people who put it on your computer are generally in the right by their agreements. Most people that get spyware are uninformed, and ignorant. If you open unsolisited email, or if you download P2P, and other such software, you will end up with spyware.
Places such as Starbucks will have more Caffiene per cup. Generally about 15%-20% more than your local gas station. Then again, I skip liquid coffee just eat some coffee beans.

Who will be the first to "Hack" the saw so you can vary the delay time. Survival of the Fittest may still succeed !

Not quite, I have to use a Terminal Emulator to emulate old hardware (VESA drivers mainly).
