So if it's automatic that someone wants to see the source code for everything, then why does it have to be included in every slashdot story about free (as in beer) software being released? If it's implied, then it doesn't need to be said, because that's what makes some open source advocates look like sniveling ungrateful prigs.

I don't see someone saying in every financially related story "I want someone to give me lots of free money!!!!!!!!".

Actually, I thought the USB standard was invented by Microsoft, not Intel. So it isn't like Apple was doing them any big favor either way. Besides, what difference does it make if Intel "supports firewire"? They aren't the leading motherboard manufacturer AFAIK.

  9. Yeah but... on MP3.com Countersues RIAA · · Score: 1

That was before, this is now. mp3.com is being sued over their new my mp3 service which allows you to use a program to prove that you have an album and then be able to listen to that album from anywhere with an internet connection by logging in to mp3.com's online database. The lawsuit against mp3.com is not over the way mp3.com distributes legal mp3's that users upload.

The my mp3 service really is questionable though because for one, it's kind of like mp3.com is distributing THEIR copy of albums, and there are ways that users can download albums that they don't own.

Don't get me wrong, I despise the RIAA, but there are always more sides to every story than one.

Could it be a slashdot poster with a conspiracy theory? :o Any ways, Be has said before if they wanted to reverse engineer some of the hardware they could fully support the G3 and G4. But it would take too long when they would be better off working on the intel version where they will have a larger userbase. Maybe they won't have the best hardware, but having great hardware is worthless if hardly anyone uses your operating system. That's basically the entire reason why they are releasing a free version of R5- to gain a larger userbase. Besides, it's common knowledge that Be was aiming to get bought by Apple to replace the MacOS. No need to say it as if it's some big secret that Be is trying to hide. :P

I mean sure, I wouldnt have any problem with it, I've already memorized which ones do what just from reading an article about it (green = maximize, red = close, yellow = minimize), but I've had to help people learn computers that could'nt even remember the buttons with the static icons! I'd tell them to go ahead and close the window and they'd still ask which button that was. It took a long time for them to catch on. I just don't think its very intuitive in the way of usability.

But what happens when people decide they want to watch DVD's on another operating system that they decided not to support?

And yes, this animosity towards the MPAA and the RIAA is very well deserved. Both are just legal organizations that use there power to bully others into submission. In Canada there is a tax on blank audio cd's and that tax goes to the RIAA whether or not they were used to record legal or illegal music on.

Freedom has a price, and it isn't like either of these organizations can't afford it.
