Along those lines, GM plants were notoriously inflexible for their production. The plants were designed for very specific purpose. Honda, on the other hand, designed plants that could easily switch between models to quickly change the model mix based on sales.

The result is GM often has mass layoffs when certain model sales underperform while Honda goes through short periods where they might struggle but can quickly adapt without the need to layoff thousands of workers or shut down obsolete facilities.

Most likely the new GM plant in Mexico will produce small cars that will be for all of the Americas, not just US.

The unemployment rate is so low because a majority of women leave the work force once they get married or have their first child. Very similar to how the US was prior to the 1970's.

Unlike Ford, our facility wasn't built to replace jobs in the US, it was built to produce vehicles that are more in line with Latin American needs while also exporting these models to the US.

I have been asked by at least 20 people today what I think about Trump. I said much the same thing, if he follows through with his threats of tariffs, he's going to wreck the US industry.

I also told them that I hope Trump just made those comments to get certain voting blocks to vote for him. Once he locked up that segment of the population that have no sense of economics, he could focus on reeling in other groups.

Despite being "Republican" I suspect behind most closed doors all those Republican congresscritters are going to be telling him to back off the talk.

Before I get accused of being a Hillary supporter, I'm not.. from what I've read so far in this thread anyone that doesn't like Trump is accused of being on Hillary's payroll...

Look at Trump's behavior patterns. The minute someone says something negative, he starts mud slinging. The guy cannot shrug anything off. Sometimes I see parallels between his behavior and that of my 3 year old. I even joke with my wife that we're raising a mini-Trump.. just that he doesn't have a lot of money to start with.

Looks like they bought up as many domains as they could think of to avoid people voicing their negative opinions. If Trump becomes President, will he look to create LÃse majesté like laws?

    He's an incredibly rich child.

What I'm hoping for is Hillary gets elected then removed from office and let Kaine finish the term. She's about the only person that can make Trump look like a good idea.

There's no way Tesla will meet their cost targets unless they want to take a loss. First, their manufacturing facility is thousands of miles from existing manufacturing base. Suppliers may be able to produce the parts rather cheaply but transportation costs will inflate the price. Second, they want their suppliers to build new, Tesla only facilities close to the mass production plant. Suppliers are not going to eat that cost for the privilege of doing business with Tesla, which even at their exaggerated sales expectations will still only be the 4th or 5th larges automaker in the US. That means overhead costs will be through the roof initially, driving up part costs.

I fully expect them to eventually hit their target, in 5+ years.
