The first time I played at a friend's house the wiimote slipped out of my hand when I took a swing playing tennis. I wasn't drinking, just not doing something I was use to.. odd since I played enough golf, baseball, tennis in my life and never lost grip of any of those items while swinging.
But the strap on my wrist kept the wiimote from slamming into the wall. I bought my own wii shortly after that, and 18 months later I haven't had another slip. I can understand someone losing their grip once or twice.. but you seriously have to abuse the strap to weaken it enough for it to fail when you throw it.
I was thinking the same thing about the straps. You have to routinely abuse the wiimote in order to weaken the strap to the point of failure... What I imagine is people putting the strap on and twirling it around on their wrist.
It's not near enough to OSU campus for people to walk.. and D&Bs is a bit pricey to go and get trashed at anyway. I might have 1 beer when I go.. the rest of the money goes to playing games.
Reminds me of the good ole NET SEND command, a few of us would send messages to our TA during our FORTRAN class while he had his screen hooked into the projector. He had no idea where the messages were coming from.. but at least it made the class somewhat entertaining. I guess being able to program doesn't require you to also have some basic networking skills.
My experience tells me that if you act like you know what you're doing (meaning you read the signs that tell you proper line etiquette) they are usually nice and respectable. It's the people that don't remove the change from their pockets.. don't take the laptop out of the bag.. don't take their shoes off until instructed to do so that causes foul moods.
And not that I blame them. They deal with thousands of people every day who are usually in a hurry and therefore rude to them. I have a short temper with people who can't follow simple directions. Heaven forbid someone who's in line for 20 minutes read one of the 30 signs that tell you to take your shoes off (for example) or the automated announcement every 5 minutes over the PA that tells you what to be ready for.
I try to be polite when I travel, a simple "thank you" can go a long way..
You know most people probably get into politics with ideas of making the world perfect... then they get to Washington and become corrupted. After a few years they are no longer concerned with their constituants wants/needs but only do what is necessary to remain in office.
I am sure the typical nerd would follow the same pattern. Unless the new government disolved capital hill and were forced to live in their district and video conference in for 10 hours every day...
Stories like this make me wonder if I ended up going to one of the most progressive high schools in the nation... Nothing special about my school, 1500-1600 students in a town around 22k people in Ohio... I was in some geeky clubs (math, chess, french) but also lettered in soccer and baseball. Not once was I ever picked on or made fun of for my hobbies or academic success. I also never heard about anyone getting picked on because they were geeks or nerds. Of course, looking back, it seems that a good portion of the smart kids in my school also were athletic.. maybe it's something in the water to produce a breed of smart jocks (I'd guess that 15 of the top 20 in my class academically played at least 1 varsity sport)...
I'm not doubting your story... just trying to figure out what the norm is.
I hate how shit like this gets modded "insightful," if anything it's flamebait. What happened, did you see the one idiot the local news crew always seems to find that says "I'm not voting for Obama because he's a Muslim" and decide that an entire state is worthless? That's what the local news in (Dayton,Ohio) would show. They'd air some toothless person from the OH/WV boarder saying they wouldn't vote for Obama.. trying to generalize everyone who voted for McCain.
It's annoying that on a site with so many smart people that moronic generalizations can be seen as insightful. You know, not everyone who voted for McCain is a racist, or is a bible thumper, or is a fear and/or war mongerer. Some places actually do better under Republican policies (small towns). I didn't vote for McCain, but I don't bash the people who do. They have the right to vote for whomever they want for whatever reason they want.
I dated a girl for about 3 months after meeting her through one of the dating service sites (after being on it for like 6 months). We really didn't have much in common, and though we're still friends, the relationship had to end.
But I am convinced that between 60-75% of the "matches" you get are filler accounts. So in the time I was a member, I probably rejected/got rejected by 300 or so matches.. and spoke with 1 of them.
Those sites do work, I know some people who met through one and are happily married.. but I believe the numbers of subscribers are phoney.
While not widespread, some absentee ballots (about 50) meant for my county (which always votes about 70% Republican) were stolen from a post office in a normally Democrat county. A co-worker of mine never got his and that's what the post office told him. Knowing the area, I guess it would be easy for a post office worker to "lose" absentee ballots destined for an area you know typically votes the other party.
Obama's favorite quote of mine was this "Change doesn't come from Washington, Change goes to Washington".. This makes me chuckle for two reasons. First of all, he was a part of Washington before he ran for President. Secondly.. is he saying that once he got elected, there would be no more change?
So McCain linking Obama to Jeremiah Wright is not a negative ad? I mean, after all, Obama did attend his church for 20 years so he must have agreed with everything that Wright said.
Do you understand my point? I think it's a negative ad if you're trying to use a 3rd party's negative attributes to describe the opponant. Not to mention this was the first Obama ad I saw on TV once he got won the Democrat ticket.
So Obama comparing McCain to Bush is a positive thing?
Who does everyone seem to hate right now, George W. Bush. Who would you compare your opponant to if you wanted to give them some negative publicity.. George W. Bush. Before Obama had any REAL ideas for the change he promised, he was trying to connect McCain to Bush. While some of the comparisons were deserved, I think for someone running a "positive campaign" it was a pretty lame first step.
I just got back from voting, it seems I picked a good time to go, only had to wait 10 minutes before I was making my selections. The key is to go mid morning or mid afternoon and avoid early morning, lunch, and after work (if possible).
I went in thinking I would just request a paper ballot instead of using the Diebold machines (in Ohio we can request paper ballot if we want)... but at the last minute I decided to go with the machine because I was trying to get in and out quickly (every poll worker was 70+ years old, didn't want to do anything out of the norm). I get to my machine, make my choices.. and went it was printing out the paper ticket so I could review my selections, the paper roll was jammed so nothing was happening. I told a poll worker that it didn't work, and that I wanted to cancel this ballot and do a paper one.
Lesson learned. Of course then they only gave me the first page of the paper ballot (which left off a few local proposals). I pointed out the missing proposals, they found page two, and I got to finish. I was the 9th person to do paper ballot, so the previous 8 didn't get that 2nd page.
Then your media coverage is pretty biased, because McCain has done all he could the last few months to distance himself from Bush/Cheney. There was a pretty funny skit on Saturday Night Live (not sure if you're familiar with this show) where Will Ferrel came back to play Bush, and Cheney was doing everything he could to get Bush to not endorse him.
McCain of 2000 probably would've won against Obama pretty easily.. but you're right, he did pander himself out to the NeoCons and that's why Obama will win today.
Put down the kool-aid. While I agree that Obama ran a better campaign than McCain.. "technology to its' fullest".. Ok, he embraced the internet and txt messaging.. hardly taking it to the limit.
From day 1 the democrats were labeling McCain as Bush Jr.. if that's not negativity, then I don't know what is.
REAL platform? That statement is rediculous. His platform is no more real or fake than any other candidate. Just because you agree with it more than McCains doesn't make it more real. In fact I think Obama's platform of "change" can be a bit vague at times and I think he's biting off more than he can chew.
I was going to vote for Obama, but the scores of mindless drones has really turned me off. I'm off to vote in about 20 minutes, I think I'll throw my vote away on a 3rd party candidate.
I don't believe the Republicans ever had an anti-fillibuster majority. If the Dems get that, I really fear that we'll move even farther backwards as a country.

Try the one near Cincy, I think it's better
I don't think I'd ever like to go shopping with you... I think you'd remove all of the fun out of impulse buying! :)

These things are all fine and dandy until someone mistakes it for an inhaler and puts a bullet through their head...

I'd say NASA's track record looks pretty good, especially over the past decade.

Maybe I'm the only one, but I picture Judge Kimball reading his judgement in the governator's voice....
I thought maybe they airbrushed her to look less like a lesbian... and did a very poor job at it.
I wish the mod system had a comment box.. so that I could give you a +1 for your use of the word "sheeple"
Well I'd imagine most of the people using this device are past the baby producing age.

I'm glad they finally came out with some pocket-sized pocket protectors!
