Like any kids know who Speed Racer is... I'm 28 and for the most part Speed Racer pre-dates me... I hated the cartoon and this movie reminds me of the Scooby Doo movie.. which I thought was trash.
Um.. to "dumb farmers" corn based ethanol IS a good idea. Higher demand drives up the price for their corn, making them more money.
Sounds like you are the dumb one for not realizing why farmers are pimping their corn for ethanol.
And no, I'm not saying corn based ethanol is a good idea, because it's not.. I'm just saying to farmers in the mid-west it's a good thing because they make more revenue. I guess the sad thing is there are a large number of "super farms" that are owned by New York businessmen.
I was in Brazil last September and the Coke there is soooo much better than it is here because of that. I try to avoid beverages with high fructose corn syrup.
I know when I was 11 years old just getting adults to listen to my opinion would've been enough compensation for me. The kid is doing something I assume he enjoys and is learning while he is doing it... you can't teach hands-on experience.
That reminds me of a story... when I was in high school (about 13 years ago) my friends and I were making a mobster movie one summer. We had a plastic cap gun that use the string of red caps, and those were loaded into a clip which was then appeared to be loaded like a regular pistol clip. A guy in another car saw two kids playing with a realistic looking gun and followed my friends to give info to the cops. About 10 minutes later a cop shows up at my friends' house and so we all go outside. He mentions getting a call about us playing with a gun.. we really had no clue what he was talking about at first, then I figured out he was talking about the cap gun and went inside to get it. The cop took it for a few minutes, called it in to dispatch, gave it back to us and just said to be a little more discrete when driving around in public with something that looked real from a distance (it did).
Moral of the story... what the fuck happened to this country in the last 10-15 years?!?!? I'm not even 30 years old and things I remember doing in high school would get me arrested now, and it was never anything illegal (except maybe toilet papering).
I think the bigger issue is how much information google is actually storing. I don't care if Canada's government respects the individual's privacy more.. the temptation is there for future abuse.
I'm not one that usually gets paranoid and I hate conspiracy theories.. but google worries me. Even if they never do anything wrong as a company, it just takes one person with bad intentions to make all that information public.
There is something wrong with a company that wants to be everything to everyone. (look at Microsoft)
Take the blinders off, google is getting more scary each passing day. Pretty soon the government will start spying on citizens using the data google stores on everyone.
You can't be anti-big business yet think google's shit smells like roses.
I work for a decent sized multi-national and our office handles most of the procurement. People with CS degrees or who are just good with computers often work their way up the chain much quicker.
I know there's always talk about programming jobs being outsourced. Get a degree in business and maybe minor in CS (or vice versa) and you will be an extremely marketable person. We hired on a contract programmer a couple years ago into our group. He has the same responsibilities as the rest of us (although his specific area isn't as difficult as others) and he also programs many small applications for us to make the tedious work managable.
Prove that you can work with MS Access or MS Excel or write small applications and you will become an office hero.
I've done pretty well for myself since graduating almost 4 years ago, but if I had to do it over again I would've taken some CS related classes.
Look through history - becoming a soldier has ALWAYS been a way improve your social status. Now you get good pay, good benefits, instant respect from most, and good training for life after the military. Unfortuantely not every solider makes it home unharmed, but the military is a hazardous profession.
Would your sentiment about "trickery" be the same if the soliders were killed while part of a UN peace keeping force or killed while giving aid after a natural disaster somewhere around the world?
Not being able to sell it in certain counties doesn't make it illegal. Every time I go to Cumberland I make sure I stock up in Covington, KY (much cheaper than in Ohio) because I know the county where the marina is in is dry.
As long as the ISP lets consumers know "we filter out porn" I don't see this as a big issue. The big ISPs aren't going to touch this... so I don't think overall competition will suffer much. What you'll end up getting is a few smaller ISPs working together to make it happen and they'll probably get the contract with the schools.
Any ISP that does go for the "G-Rating" would probably lose more subscribers than they would gain. Unless the gov't also plans on subsidising it, I don't see it as a good business move.
And I don't see how people are claiming censorship when it's out in the open and a choice to go with it or not. It is what it is, filtered content... that you have to sign up for.
I cuss like a sailor when I die in a game... typically followed by accusations everyone else is cheating.
Imagine that German kid from the youtube video (i'd link if I wasn't at work).. and that's basically me.. except I'm a bit older, not quite a pudgy, speak English.. and only rant for about 10 seconds.
I hope noone ever flies while being constipated... that's a sure sign of being a terrorist!

At least when you're in jail you'll have plenty of volunteers to help break up the clog...
(yes, I went there.. and I regret it.. but am too lazy to delete it
Maybe they should not have named themselves after something 99% of men in the world detest :)

While that would be ideal.. I don't think there are any cars available right now that could accomplish that.

An easier way to reduce consumption is to just carpool.
Maybe Microsoft will surprise the critics and Windows 7 will be the greatest OS ever, able to completely stand on it's own against all competition.
Not that I think it will happen, but it's possible.
Is this a new low on /., not even reading the article's title? I was referring to propaganda, not war crimes. Sheesh.
The page loads as quickly as it would have in 1994!
When the "enemy" is doing it, you need to do it to some extent as well.
George! My vote is for Parliament Funkadelic!

Its getting really ugly and if they cared half as much about the welfare of Ohio as they do partisan politics... things wouldn't be so bad.
I didn't have to look far for you own grammar mistake.

Sounds like vaporware to me!
The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Seems somewhat fitting...
