So bribery is better than litigation?:)
Of course the allegations make Intel look bad, a lawsuit put forth by AMD isn't going to make Intel smell like roses. But what I read is believeable, so I'll be interested how it turns out.
Slightly off-topic, but can anyone get a CD to burn properly through iTunes?
iTunes will put a glitch about 5 seconds into each song, is this suppose to be a "feature"? If I want to listen to the songs I paid for in my car without that annoying glitch, shouldn't I be able to?
I downloaded firefox as soon as it was "officially" released.
Now I consider my knowledge of computers and software as advanced, but I'm definately not an expert. I found the interface to be less friendly than IE and trying to change options was a chore. Also, until 3 days ago, I didn't know how to automatically update Firefox until I saw someone mention clicking the red arrow on the top right portion of the window. Now, I had gone to mozilla.org and downloaded the latest versions on my own, but this was a hassle. And if "I" didn't know about the auto-update, my grandmother, parents, sister, brother, and a few friends I've turned to Firefox are not going to know either.
Sometimes reading through/. posts, I am reminded of bleeding heart liberals or bible thumping conservatives with how people treat OSS to M$. People are annoyingly blinded by their dis-like for the other side that they cannot see the whole picture. Sure Firefox is great, but it's not perfect and IE still has some advantages.
I could be wrong, but I don't recall reading anywhere that parents must take their children to this movie.
If you knew anything about the story, you would've seen the PG-13 rating coming about 5 years ago. Unfortunately, the movie would really suck if all the sudden yoda tells obi-wan that all other jedi are dead... end of movie.
I'm too lazy to search for the figures, but Bill Gates and M$ donate millions every year towards complete systems for schools.
If people stop going with M$, M$ also stops giving away free computers. I didn't RTFA so I'm not sure if this factor was part of the calculation. There are reasons why M$ is still prominent, and one of them is the freebies.
The u-scan lines (as they are called here) are not for the benefit of the store, per se, they are for the convienence of the customer. One employee can basically cover 4 express lanes at once.
Sure you can make the argument that the store is benefiting also by being able to serve more customers quickly with less man-power, but to them it barely makes a ripple in their budgets.
If you look at the places that are becoming (or already are) overcrowded, it's generally in locations where food is scarce and life expectancy is lower.
Current space ships use up most of their fuel leaving Earth's atmosphere. If a manned trip to Mars was to happen, they would have to refuel unless they wanted to take 3 or 4 years to get there (and the water/food needed for that trip would make a launch straight from Earth basically impossible).
Making money isn't the sole point of a company. Companies exist to fulfil their owners objectives as expressed by the mission statement. A side product of fulfilling those objectives is to make money, because an unprofitable company won't fulfil the objectives for very long.
This is wrong. A publically owned (which google now is) corporation's top priority is to make money for the shareholders.
What you ranted about is business ethics, the great companies will be able to balance making money with being the company the community wants to exist.
It really is a shame when the prevailing "geek" attitude towards agencies like the FBI is mistrust and fear, not confidence and respect.
Here comes my off topic/flamebait comment.
The prevailing "geek" attitude is to congregate in large online communities and complain about the daily news while hiding behind monikers. Everything government is automatically taboo.
Honda has been providing hydrogen fuel cell cars to a select few goverments since 2003 (I think there are 5 cities who have 3-5 cars).
Right now we are nowhere near having practical fuel sources or efficiency for mass production, and Honda is probably the industry leader in all engines other than diesel.
I doubt we'll see hydrogen powered cars become mainstream in our lives. When I say mainstream, I talk across the entire US. I bet both coasts will have fuel station networks up and running in the next 15 years, but the midwest will be late adopters.
I think you have Blizzard's sales plan all wrong.
The profit doesn't lie in selling boxes for $50, the profit comes from keeping loyal customers who are willing to pay $10-$15 per month to play the game.
This is like the auto industry (which I work in). The companies don't make much profit off the sale of a new car, the profit comes from the sale of service parts.
When he activates his, your account should be disabled. Problem solved.
Just think of the abuse possibilities.
Most new games online games now require you to register the cd-key while creating your account. Games have a "disable" feature that will basically delete the account, therefor freeing up the cd-key. This, in turn, allows the sale of the account and the creation of a brand new account on the used cd-key.
It sounds like the seller never disabled his account.

The current US Administration has not "ignored" N. Korea. In fact, they have been saying for the past four years that the US will not negotiate 1 on 1, they will only participate if China, S. Korea, Russia and Japan (maybe) are involved as well. The reason the Administration has done this is to cut through Kim Jong Il's rheteric.
But the US is damned if they do, damned if they don't. People whine when the US goes solo, and people whine when the US doesn't take immediate action.
Actually, being over 2 billion miles away, I'm happy knowing it landed and was able to trasmit anything back.
I also believe this probe was launched long before the mars rovers. Of course our efficiency will improve with time.
We also knew the composition of mars already, we knew what to expect. Titan was shrouded in a cloud of mystery (in more ways than one). What we find out in the next few weeks could very well lead to a marseque rover being sent to explore.
I hope I am alive to see man step foot on Mars. Space has always held my fancy, I would volunteer for a 1-way mission to Mars.
I always laugh when people talk about "wasting" money. Yes it cost around $2.5 billion for these probes, but it's not like we strapped a bunch of briefcases full of cash on a rocket and launched it billions of miles away.
The money spent goes right back into the global economy. The only thing lost are the resources that are flying through space. Resources, in my perspective, have no monetary value. Humans attach value in order to get paid. Think of the thousands of people who earned regular paychecks working on this project.
I get annoyed when people talk about government spending also. Yes they spend too much, but the money is going right back into the economy (for the most part).
*end rant*
I would have no problem paying more taxes. The US's taxes are among the lowest (if not the absolute lowest) of any industrialized nation.
To add, this money will not be taken out at once. I'm not sure, but I don't think NASA's budget will really have to be increased all that much. So now instead of having no focus and just launching random satellites and probes, they have a goal.
So bribery is better than litigation? :)

Because the batteries back then weighed around 15lbs? Probably also has to do with the monochrome display.

It keeps the snobs from the NE and the hippies from the far west away :)
If you like your weather to have variety, Ohio is a great place to live.
The campus already has WiFi (at least the 3 buildings I frequently had class in), I use to sit in class with my PDA and surf the web all the time.
Did /. get proper permission to use the dual-shock controller icon on the front page?
So many people already own a gameboy, gameboy color, or gameboy advance... what's your point?
Titan who?

Those "zillions" of dollars just wind up going back in to the economy. The only downside I see to big gov't spending is the threat of inflation.
