Loose coupling is good, but tight coupling is easier to grasp. I think the point about the 'web shell' was that it would contain most of what users need. Incidentally, Opera is kind of like an internet shell already, it's just lacking an IM client and more polish.

Not only the UK either, that system works in most of Europe. Basically: 10^6 = million; 10^9 = milliard, 10^12 = billion, 10^15 = billiard, and so on using the same pattern.

What part of going into a store and intentionally confusing their customers en masse is ok, how is it not an uninvited act of provocation, and what's wrong with the store wanting to throw them out?

And relating to the story: the store won't call any police if only one person goes in and tells a manager that there's 500 people waiting right outside willing to buy a product in exchange for a discount.

The "sweaty" part can be solved by not biking as fast as possible, and being in good condition to start with. Rain is solved by a biking raincoat, or even just an umbrella (I've done it myself countless times), snow just means you need to prepare your bike for winter, the same way you prepare a car.

A bike gives more flexibility also, I can easily pack up and leave right away with a bike. I even bike to lunch, if I want to go to a restaurant further away. No parking problems. Though obviously not if you mean going to the next city.

Status: in what country on this planet is it funny to use a bike? To me it seems that people bike wherever I go.

Having said all that, it certainly feels easier to take the car, since you don't have to stress any muscles, but that's the point: you get fat.

That's somewhat old info, I think. I don't think it's possible anywhere to resign by email, you need toi put your signature somewhere, that's why you get the paper and return envelope (the date of resignation will however be set to the date you sent the email).

Also, the "regret-month" doesn't exist anymore. As soon as the magistrate or whatever receives the paper back with your name scribbled on it, you've resigned.
