There was a Scientology doco on channel 9 in Australia this last Sunday. I didn't watch it but from the ad I saw it didn't look like it would cast Scientology in a positive light. Luckily my Scientology ward, that I developed on the streets of Perth as I walked past their building many times when working in the city years ago, keeps them away.

Welcome to marketing 101. You know those cash back offers that they use to sell products? Buy this computer/toaster/cappuccino maker at full price then send in this coupon to get X dollars back 3 months later? Guess what, a whole heap of people buy stuff for the offer then forget to send in the coupon or just end up not being bothered to. Marketeer's count on this and use this behaviour to profit from it.

The problem is, that stupid laws like this being introduced won't address the problems with peoples nutrition. The human body is a very complex system and you can do your head in when you start thinking of every interaction of every vitamin, mineral, proteins and everything else we ingest on a daily basis. Do we need salt for a healthy body? Yes! But we don't need it in excess, and its most important that we have a balanced diet that includes everything we need (and I throw in a multivitamin to make sure I don't miss out on anything and healthy fats) and exercise. Thats what is going to make a more healthy society, if he wants to ban something, start with Twinkies or Krispy Kremes and Celebrity Diets. I get sick of explaining that having a health diet isn't the same as dieting.

I have the same approach going into brick and mortar stores. Its an understandable, but annoying and I find insulting trend, that bags get searched when you leave a store in Australia. Some stores even expect you to queue to leave. If I know I'm going to get searched often I just don't bother going into the store. If I do go in and there is a queue, hell I just walk around it and out the door. I'm not a thief and I don't expect to be treated like one.

Is this arrogant? Hell yeah but someone has to say that enough is enough. Often, just going out with a hoity look on your face is enough to dissuade a search. Oh and don't get me started when they try to give me a lecture on why they are doing it. Just because thieves are eroding my rights, it doesn't mean I have to put up with it, especially since thieves don't hide stuff that they steal in their bags.

And thats exactly what the producing companies don't want to face. That their decades old system of selling shows to networks is not what consumers want anymore. They want what everyone else has right damn now. I may be Gen-X but when it comes to this sort of stuff I have a very Gen-Y attitude towards it.

I try to organise my life very efficiently due to my many interests and part of that is watching what I want when I want, I rarely watch live television (UFC 110 was an exception in Oz tho) and I basically time shift all my viewing habits to cut out the ads and get the most bang for my buck, and these archaic systems in place just don't do it for me.

  15. Digital Economy? on Aussie Film Industry Appeals ISP Copyright Case · · Score: 4, Insightful

The only digital economy that I can see AFACT being interested in is propagating its anti-competitive, artificial markets that lets Australian users get content that was released 6 months ago in the US, late, or not at all. In fact piracy has helped improve Australian free to air television by encouraging TV stations to screen popular TV series as soon as they possibly can so that pirates don't need to actually download those shows. A lot of the reason behind people in Australia downloading shows is because they just are not available to view in Australia for months on end if at all. It doesn't make it right, but its one of the big reasons it happens.

All we want studios is to be able to legally obtain content in our Australian region when it is released in another region like the UK or US in a timely manner without all the local market bull-s*@t that you put us through time and time again so you can make more money by charging us more when we could buy it in the US or something where they have real market competition for cheaper.

Of course there will always be the bunch of people that infringe copyright that just want the stuff for free, and its these people I have no sympathy for, as its used as an excuse by content creators to screw us over time and time again as they seek their almighty dollars.

Since I hardly use my notebook in battery mode its not much of a bother to me, but it still irked me a bit. Macbook users beware! On many occasions new books have come out that I wan't to read that are in those horrible big hardcover sizes but are made like paperbacks with hard cover prices. That I do not like. Often these books take far longer to come down to a manageable size than the hardcover to paperback transition that used to happen in a timely manner. I always make sure I do a good job that they are happy with. I always make sure to tell them when they are making things difficult for me or are being counter productive for the project, in essence I tell them the truth of what is happening. Being up front saves a whole lot of hassle and finger pointing.

Do you get a copy of the lyrics when you buy off iTunes? I don't know the answer to that one, but I'd say it's probably "no."

iTunes supplies a facility to enter the lyrics of a song you have purchased. Right click the song, select 'Get Info' and select the 'Lyrics' tab and enter them in the editable field. (At least on windows boxes) Conceivably, iTunes in the future could provide the lyrics of the song that you have purchased just like it supplies the artwork of the song at the moment.

None of the songs i have purchased have had any lyrics supplied, and the help indicates that you just enter them so I think that the answer is a big fat NO.
