I've been thinking about buying this book, but I'm not willing to buy a xbox. My question is if the book is any good without a xbox, if one could learn some stuff without having the hardware to watch/modify. I'm not much into hardware, but I'm willing to learn some stuff and I thought about buying this book, but I'm not sure if it would do me any good (maybe it's too advanced for some newbie like me).
i agree with it. i think most companies are focusing exclusively on better graphics and sound, and leaving fun/gameplay behind. come on, how many original games have you seen lately? 99% of the new released games are either RPG, FPS, RTS or sports. where are the new ideas? games like Pirates!, GTA and other unique games, which were (are?) good not because of fancy graphics, but because they are unique and fun to play.
nowadays designers only follow the "let's make a game like that one, but with improved graphics!" maxim. we want original games, not original graphics!
there were many others that we remember fondly only because we have other memories associated with them (like summers growing up, friends etc. etc.)
thats why we are so much into old games and not into the most recent ones. who would want to in some years remember something like "i loved this game! i played it during great part of my life, where i had no girlfriend, no friends, and kept hitting refresh on slashdot each 5 minutes...oh, err, nevermind"
it doesn't have any "classic arcade games", but the underdogs is a nice "classic" computer games repository (the majority of the games being for PC). and they claim all the games that are available for download are legal (the copywrite holder's are no longer ISDA members or something like that -- IANAL)
you've felt pathetic before or after trying the doll?

when i don't have that much spare time, i just end up installing windows. it's usually faster.
Or maybe they were just SCO employees retrieving the computers whose licenses hadn't been paid.
Where will I hold my beer then?
