The whole point of genes is that they are an instruction set for building various parts of you. In other words, the genes themselves are worthless it is their application that matters - that's the whole point! Allowing a company to patent the instructions for growing lungs is insane.
I agree that the number seems very low. I buy maybe two games a year, as do most of the folks I know... Perhaps they mean 1% by percentage of sales, rather than number of gamers.
While I'm not a hard core gamer at all, I did (and do) enjoy playing regularly. Since I've been married and had a kid, my free time is very limited. Let's face it, even playing on line, being a gamer is a selfish activity. When you have a spouse and kid(s), your time and energy is spent on other people.
I think the problem Microsoft faces is that when you have only an hour a week or so to game, you aren't going to spend $400 for a new system. My PC works great for gaming...
I believe the Wall-Mart factor comes into play here. Wall-Mart won't sell stuff that is "adults only". While it is one retailer, they sell a ton of games.
Adults only tends to have a negative connotation in retail. And, like it or not, retail is where most sales are made.
Coming to the topic a bit late, but I'm a "casual" gamer. I play when I can, but I have a wife, a kid, a full time job and am working on a software project on the side. I play to relax, to forget my troubles. I don't want to invest hundreds of dollars in a gaming rig, online play, etc. I would like a machine that will be relatively cheap, that my daughter can have some fun with and that will be fun for me as well.
My guess is that there are a lot of folks like me.
Kind of offtopic, but the prices for sports tickets are due more to corporate tax breaks than demand. A company can buy season tickets and write off the price as an entertainment expense. That's why teams want new stadiums/arenas - they can build more corporate luxury boxes, get more companies to write off the expense and rake in the dollars.
Dude, shut the fuck up about Zonk already! While he may be repetitive, your song and dance is way more annoying.

Sometimes the virtual pets are much easier than the real ones. Virtual pets don't throw up on your rug, don't leave fur on the couch and don't bark like crazy at 2 am because a cat walked on the back porch. Real pets are great, but they require real work, and sometimes they are just screwed up.
Look, I'm a liberal, and I can tell you that I support the right to free speech. In fact, every liberal I know is pretty much on board with that particular freedom. The KKK can march, Pat Robertson can call for Chavez's death, etc. Don't know where you get the idea that we want to jail those that disagree with us.
Exactly! If I were a college kid trying to figure out what to major in, I don't think the last 5 years in the IT industry would give me much hope that a CS degree was a great idea.
Perhaps it isn't the games themselves but more the gamer mentality that doesn't appeal to women. It seems like gamers get into pissing contests about which FPS is the best or which video card rocks harder.
Let's not forget the Dinobots. They'd show up, some Deceptacon would make the mistake of shooting at them, then they'd kick butt. They all talked like cavemen.
I always thought the Autobots were lamers. They were CARS from some advanced robot planet?!? One of them was a VW Beetle! Why the Deceptacons couldn't kick their asses was beyond me.
Let's see, last I checked Government, at least in the US, provided a vast infrastructure of roads, waterways, airports, etc. I also know my water is clean and safe. I know what the weather will be like. All because of the evil government.

Better than Beer is bongwater. Very stale, stinky bongwater. I managed to get the keyboard working again, but eventually had to get a new one.

Launch from the southeastern tip of the island of Hawaii then...
