..i dont think there is the need to start making up big stories out of this. Of course this kind of migration takes a lot of time, specially for the training.
I really hope that everything proceeds as planned.. a project like this is important for the public opinion of Free Software and Linux...
the article is just a bit too techie for me.. so whats the catch with this new stuff? will it help some more device manufacturers make "drivers" for linux?
wtf??? when i posted there were already 2 other posts in here, so obviously I wasnt posting for first post.. duH!!! secondly, there are other posts in here that they pretty much what i do: a personal opinion on the topic and nothing else!
now people will think "oh ibm preferred ms office on linux, so maybe it IS better than OOo". things like this matter for the public opinion... OOo is a damn good office suite, there is NO need for M$ Office in here. If they want support for more stuff, why dont they help OOo development?
Neowin has learned of shocking and potentially devastating news. It would appear that two packages are circulating on the internet, one being the source code to Windows 2000, and the other being the source code to Windows NT. At this time, it is hard to establish whether or not full code has leaked, and this will undoubtedly remain the situation until an attempt is made to compile them. Microsoft are currently unavailable for comment surrounding this leak so we have no official response from them at the time of writing.
This leak is a shock not only to Neowin, but to the wider IT industry. The ramifications of this leak are far reaching and devastating. This reporter does not wish to be sensationalist, but the number of industries and critical systems that are based around these technologies that could be damaged by new exploits found in this source code is something that doesn't bare thinking about.
there have been a lot of discussions in the gtk and gnome mailing lists about the file selector along with some good mockups. this is how my <a href="http://tuggy.home.sapo.pt/fs.png">current file selector</a> looks like
i would prefer to say they copied it from KDE than from Windows. But then again, windows also copies a lots of things from other desktops too. Nothing wrong with that, if its better, and if it works, then addopt it.
that's a good sugestion, but other problems arise. For example, I receive e-mails from people that i use to talk on IRC.. and people use a lot of abbreviations there, which a spell checker my classify as errors. And then there is the problem of having just one spell checker. Because i receive e-mails in more than just one language...
Kudos the the blender team! I use blender for some years now.. since version 1.x. Those were the days you need to buy a blender license to get access to some options like radiosity.
Blender as improved in big steps til now... and the interface rocks! Just because its not the tradition 3/4 view like in 3DSMax it doesnt mean its bad. I love blender the way it is, and I love the blender community!
...they'd have to give said government all the code that has been reviewed plus the means to compile it and distribute it themselves.
Other wise it is pointless. "Here are our black boxs and here is the code it runs, honest. No, you can't open them - We've showed you what's in them, really!"
yeah, i agree with that. and because of it, i dont think it will happen.
Micro$oft wont be stupid enough to open the code only to government.. that is an impossible thing to do. Once the code is open to someone, it will be open to all:>
nobody plays xevil anymore? used to be very fun, but i think the development is completly stopped. the last major version dates back to 2000:( still has no sound, but the gameplay is great and has a multiplayer mode.
if what you want is just manage windows, then look for a window manager. KDE/Gnome is not a window manager, is a full desktop environment. So why are you complaining anyway?
i just dont get something.
i dont care much about stocks, but i usually check about SCO's on C|Net.
They also have a graph(like all other sites), and a news sections related with the company.
What is weird is that i only see pro-SCO news showing up in there. Does this happens in some other financial info sites?
i think that piracy will actually help to sell more.
i prefer to have a original boxed game with manuals and stuff than a pirated cd... only if the price is too high.. i'll get the pirated version.
i had preemption turned on til test9, and turned it off in test10. its much better now while playing some music. with preemtion enabled, when the hard drive was being used the music stopped for 2 or 3 secs, and then skipped like 30seconds of the song.. very annoying. sometimes this happened just with a click of a mouse.
why all the fuss? good question, i think...
/. comments...
<conspiracy>
maybe it benefits "someone", to make a fuss out of this. so now they can say "SEE! we told you it was no good!"...
</conspiracy>
we just cant really trust the media anymore.. i just trust

..just for the sig :P
Here is a chance to not only check for backdoors but to compare with the stuff that has been given to foreign governments.
There is no difference at all IMHO. The leaked code is probably one of those given to foreign governments.. that is where the leaks come from...

so now that we have the source code, as soon that the author is caught will SCO sue it for using some of their IP?
oooops, forgot to select HTML :P
this is how my current file selector looks like.

;)
this is how my <a href="http://tuggy.home.sapo.pt/fs.png">current file selector</a> looks like
and it will get better in gnome 2.6
interesting feature indeed.. looks promising.
i wonder if the OOo guys have considered adding the support for editing pdfs....
And how is a 17-year-old able of affording his own lawyer?

Hope it will live much longer...
i think its really cool that OOo is starting to be more adopted in many places, replacing comercial office suits.
:)
many people still complain about the speed issue, and its great that that is on the major TO-DOs for OOo 1.2
