Looking at today's quote, it seems like their FUD is not having the effect that they thought it might. Perhaps that is why they are getting more desperate and far reaching with their accusations. Seriously, someone would have to have rocks in their head to believe anything they say at this point.

Luckily the worst thing a brain dead administrator can do is suspend someone. Your 'permanent record' is not so permanent once you graduate. Given a choice between telling my kid to allow himself to be beaten to a pulp or to do whatever he can to prevent it, I'll choose the latter, no matter what some zero common sense school policy says. Seriously, suspensions in school are so common now that nobody cares anymore.

Seriously, I don't know why people had such a big problem with this. Dynamic pricing is nothing new. Compare gas prices in Texas to prices in California. Or look at the huge variation in prices that people pay for cars. For that matter, when stores have 'sales', prices are lower than they were before and the people who paid full price might feel screwed. As usual, people learn to game the system to get a price that would be lower than it would be otherwise. I don't think Amazon could have screwed people too badly since someone could easily pop open another browser window, search for other online bookstores and buy elsewhere if they see a lower price.

If you do find something cheaper at another store after you already bought the item, you could always return it (save your receipt like a good little consumer would). It seems like Best Buy is forgetting that they have a return policy allowing returns for any reason within 14-30 days. So restricting the public's access to information on prices will accomplish exactly nothing.

I don't see any reason to exempt individuals. When people file baseless lawsuits against corporations, the costs will ultimately be passed on to the consumer. McDonalds is spending a lot of money defending themselves from baseless obesity lawsuits. Restaurants as a whole will be paying higher liability insurance costs to cover defense of these suits.

When a judge dismisses a case, he/she basically says that the case is so lacking in evidence that even if everything that the plantiff says could be proven true, they still don't have a case and should not have ever filed the suit. For this reason, going to a 'loser pays' system will not harm anyone with a valid reason for a lawsuit. There is no reason why the plantiff (and possibly their attorney) should not have to reimburse the defendant for abuse of the court system.

  12. Re:Subpoenas are for witnesses on OSDL Pays For Linus Torvalds' SCO Defense · · Score: 1

Couldn't be said better. If there is a possibility that you might be sued, you should definitely have a lawyer review anything and everything that you say to the plantiff. Even if the suit has not been served, that's not to say it won't be. Given SCO's pattern of acting irrationally, it would not be hard to imagine them suing Linus, just for the PR value.

Remember, this is a dying company gasping for air, and therefore really desperate with little to lose.

Requiring SAT scores is complete bullshit. How you did on some test in high school is no indicator whatsoever of how you perform on the job at age 30. Its about as realistic as preferring candidates with large feet. SAT scores have been 'recentered' over the years to increase the averages, therefore the test very much favors people who took it recently. My 1220 was good back in the day, but it would be crap now for a senior graduating in 04. Kids now are also more likely to have taken an SAT prep course, which were unheard of not too long ago. People were preparing to do well enough to get into the state university, not to have the scores used against them in job interviews for the rest of their lives. I believe only one company asked to see my SAT scores when applying for a job and I told them to stuff it (even in this economy).
