    I prefer the more scientific notion that people are merely a strand of DNA's tool to make more copies of itself.

    The problem with that theory is that it means most of the slashdot crowd has no meaning in life.

    If I could create a universe, that would make me a God, at which point, I probably wouldn't have much need for a warp drive. After all, "What does god need with a starship?"

    Actually if you except that the reason for our existance is to provide god with starship fuel life makes a lot more sense.

    From the summary:

    "We will be announcing additional things in that area literally very, very soon."

    As far as I know, there is no figurative use of "very, very soon". So, there is no need to say that you are using the literal meaning of the term, as that is always the meaning being employed. A possible response to "He bought the farm" might be "Will there be a funeral?" A possible response to "He literally bought the farm" might be "How much did he end up paying for it?" You can see the importance of the "literally" there. What possible use could it be in "We shall do it literally very, very soon"?

    There's a lot of different meaning to the word soon.

    Besides, this movie is in a separate time line and a separate continuity, so you shouldn't expect the timeline of this film to correlate too closely with TOS.

    I am going to build a new PC and am in the market for a card. $100 on the graphics card would give me welcome flexibility on other components. Does anyone know if this can run Nethack at full res? What if you overclock it?

    Maybe if you overclock it you can run nethack in tile mode with all it's pixlated glory.

    "could the world of high-end PC graphics simply go away?" I wish it would! I'm tired of carrying around all this envy directed at people with the kind of coin required to buy top-of-the-line graphics cards. I got a wife and kids to support!

    If you let it play a few minutes you'll see it indenify Spock and then in the next scene he comes up as unknown even though he's facing the camera. The system seems to fail when he arches his eyebrows.
