And how do I know if its true? This wiki fad might be useful for things like software manuals(We use them at Gentoo to let the end user help take a lot of the weight off our (the developers') shoulders, and it works quite well. Its easy to weed out the errors[of which there usually are] before we encorporate them into the actual gentoo docs), but using a wiki for news really strikes me as odd. I really have trouble trusting sites like wikipedia for things such as history, even if their technology articles seem to be a little less inaccurate.

There are plenty of successful open source projects that don't have a company backing them. Apache is arguably the most successful open source project, and other projects like gentoo have no financial backing either. True, monetary backing does help, but it isn't required to make something successful. On another note, even if the software you create will be licensed under the GPL, you can still get paid by companies who need customized software to do what they want to do or any software that they need that doesn't already exist. Even if you license that customized software under gpl, you still get paid by the company who needs it!

That will be fine and dandy if the computer tech guys actually set up the computers so that anyone without a password can boot from a cd or a floppy, but sometimes the tech guys disable this and then your plan won't work. If I were you, I would just bring your laptop and use that. That way you won't have to worry about waiting for a computer to boot while everyone else is already started with their timed test.

This guy is a self proclaimed "gun nut"(exact words). I don't know if this might have anything to do with his experiences in linux, but it sure interested me and shed light on his "problems" with CUPS. Look what he writes: " Many well-intentioned Americans have been propagandized into believing a collection of myths that paint guns as intrinsically evil and demonize gun owners. Fortunately, sociological and criminological research of very high quality is now available to refute these myths. Here are some of my favorite items: The Heartland Institute paper Taking Aim At Gun Control does an excellent job of debunking the myths "everybody knows" about guns and gun control. Gun Control: A Realistic Assessment is a thoroughly scholarly but devastating critique of partisanship and methodological errors in many commonly-cited anti-gun sources. "
