Just a thought, but since when did Egypt start receiving 'generous' amounts of aid from the US. Could it perhaps be after it became the first Arab state to recognize Israel's right to exist. BINGO!!!!!! :). So that aid could sorta be shifted as Aid to placate Israel's enemies aka aid to Israel. Cool huh ;)

I was reading an article somewhere about the XP-64bit beta release that said the OS would be released to OEM's only and not available as a retail upgrade (sorry can't find the link @ the moment) any info on that? Also here's a blurb about a version of Visual Studio which supports AMD64 also being released someday

Germs were supplied by the US. Resolution condemning their US was vetoed by the US (1986) Of course, its not pretty but either we're playing people off for our own good (screw the world) or we're the good guys, can't really be both. And why should I care about France or Germany when my tax dollars are being used to supply nukes to Isreal and to oppress other countries? Imagine another country treating us like we treat the rest of the world? (Coup's aplenty, assasinations, you name it, we do it :))
Check out the following about what the US did over the past 20 years viz a viz Iraq , should be a tad bit insightful http://www.unobserver.com/index.php?pagina=layout5 .php&id=815&blz=1

About all the chest thumping, yes America is great and powerful, imagine the opportunity we have, we as a nation have the power to eliminate global hunger, bump the third world up to near first world levels. We currently spend close to 400 billion on Weapons (DOD) and a similarly obscene amount (200-300 billion) on subsidies. I was at the UN (tour :D) a couple of months ago, dont remember the exact figures, but the amount requited to cleanup major problems was so small in comparison, made me want to cry over our short sightedness (a couple of billion for providing most of the world with clean drinking water, a couple more per elimination of a couple of curable but deadly diseases etc etc). We've got enough nukes to blow up the entire world many times over. Who in their right mind would attack us? (talking about countries, not fanatics, you can't really stop those regardless of what you spend). Instead of spending that much money on lame big guns, there is so much good we can do.
Btw another thing about Iraq which I find very amusing, US goes into Iraq because of Oil (as you said International Politics ;)), but the only reason it has ever had problems with Oil was its one sided support of Israel. Make that problem go away (divide it up a la the clinton era or current roadmap and position 'international' troops to keep the 2 sides apart for awhile) and all the secondary issues disappear.

They try? And democracy isn't always a panacea. Pakistan was a democracy from I think 1988 to 1999. The government was massively corrupt. Search on Google , a twice elect PM (Benazir) was convicted of embezzling state funds in Switzerland (so you can't exactly accuse the new government to be persecuting the old ;)). The issue in Pakistan is that the literacy rate is around 30% and a lot of people are farm workers that are dependent on land owners good will. Hence landowners always win and a lot of people vote for completely lame people (people that are known felons etc). I don't know, from what I've read, it ssems democracy works when there are a couple of successive sincere/ real governments that set up worthwhile / strong institutions (judiciary branch etc). Heh a couple of years ago in Pakistan there was a case in court again the then PM (Nawaz Sharif) and he had the supreme court attacked ;).
Anyways not to be doom and gloom, a lot of great people over there, just well as a lot of people here have realized sucky leaders can ruin any country and being stuck with sucky leaders for a few decades well..... ;)

So the chances of serious accidents happening if you lose power arent that high, not to mention traffic issues. Anyways about the police, they are very very corrupt. Why does the Al Qaeda exist? (CIA / Israel issue / Saudi troops :)) If America can unilaterally attack another country without any recent provocation (Iraq) if any at all. Then other governments have a reason to be afraid. Add in the fact that North Korea has Nukes and is being treated with Kid Gloves, even you'd see that Iran has no choice but to go nuclear. The solution to that particular problem is disarmament. Complete unconditional for all. America makes a big fuss over the Non Proliferation Treaty but that same treaty calls for all major powers to reduce and then eliminate their WMD. If America can't live by the treaty why should anyone else? About people hating America. Look up what the sanctions did to the Iraqi people and what it did to Saddam? Saddam was as powerful as ever while hundreds of thousands (millions?) of Iraqi's died due to malnutrition and medicine shortages. They blame America. Reverse the situ. America is denied vital medical supplies by Frances authorty to get rid of Bush, your 2 year old and 5 year old die. America invariably installs Dictators or false democracies to get people that are favourable to their policy. Read up on the Shah of Iran and the revolution. Now to be on topic, obviously this is an amazing achievement, yes if people like you hold sway then obviously very bad things can happen, like a space arms race. If you're arming yourself obviously everybody else will as well, to whatever capability they have, the race should be in science, medicine, health. America is the most powerful nation in the world and ironically the most hated :). Why not stop living in fear of others and make friends, help out the world. Just by cutting Agricultural subsidies and the US military budget america will have 2/3rds of a trillian dollars to make the world a better place. Its pretty much now or never.
