    You'll be disappointed, sounds like. After the brutal asskicking our Gropenator received in 2005 from the voters (zero for 8 on his precious referenda) Governor Gangbang had to come crawling back to the Legislature and kiss Dem ass. And he'll keep doing so if he wants to get anything done; the Dems OWN this state (California governors have virtually no real power of their own save for the veto pen - the legislature calls the tune). You should come watch - watching a neutered Arnold crawling and begging for votes is great fun. I hope he stays governor for a long, long time.

    To give you a little bit of perspective, I've worked for several Alesis dealers, the first back in 1985 when they were just getting off the ground.

    The company loves to sue. LOVES to.

    And they don't particularly care about the consequences, even if it hurts them. I've watched them pull product from major accounts because they'd gotten into some tiff with the store over policy.

    I'd keep your discovery under wraps.

    And, for what it's worth, I'd avoid working there.

    Your idea is great. Then I, and many other users, go straight back to dial-up. Don't think the ISPs aren't aware of this, either.

    For that matter, don't think the content providers aren't aware of it as well...without the bogeyman of 'piracy' they'd have to explain to their shareholders why it is that their revenues keep on falling, yet they continue to put out the same insipid, unlistenable/unwatchable crap.

    Easier to blame 'piracy' and to continue to do business as usual for everyone involved.

    In a society where every member goes to medical school and has access to the same infomation that drug companies routinely supress (Vioxx, anyone?) your idea would be a great one. As it stands, though, I agree with the sentiment that what you're advocating is "libertarian hogwash".

    Please read my post, since you failed to before responding.

    I never said that an independent politician was a bad thing. All that I'm saying is that if a politician chooses to cross the will of the majority of their party, they cannot expect that party to continue to support them. Both parties do this.

    Frankly, I'd like to see political parties abolished here. They are destroying America. Blue vs. Gray all over again. You'd think we'd have learned from what happened 140+ years ago.

    I'm not certain what you mean by "less kind intent".

    No Democrat would deny Senator Lieberman the right to say or do anything that he likes; but if he's going to insist on taking a position contrary to what the majority of his party believes in, he will not get the support of, or access to, the resouces of the party - plain and simple.

    The Republicans coined a term for this kind of politician as they also have a few mavericks who refuse to toe the party line...they call 'em RINOs (Republicans In Name Only). We have a DINO in Mr. Lieberman.

    Whether or not you believe that elections in this country were stolen, you must admit that Diebold's response to questions about the security of their machines and software have, to put it mildly, not been helpful.

    I couldn't agree more. Once Verizon starts having to pay me to not put a pickaxe through the line they ran across my property (instead of taking my property for their use via easements/eminent domain) then we'll start seeing what these services really cost.
