  1. Re:Lacking features compared to xbox/ps2 on Sales Data Indicates GameCube Underperforming · · Score: 1

They are called "gaming consoles" for a reason. To play games period. If I want an all-in-one center I will use my PC, not some watered down PC like the XBox.

Look at it this way. Nintendo went with the mini proprietary DVDs instead. Compare the amount of pirated PS2 and XBox games with GameCube games. Instead of losing the millions that MS and Sony lost to pirated games, Nintendo actually went the smarter route.

Well then, what makes Halo 2 so special that it should be regarded higher then other FPSs? Is it innovative? No. There is nothing new that has not already been used five years ago in FPSs on the PC or even console for that matter (Goldeneye64). Is it revolutionary? No. The graphics are subpar to other FPS shooters out there. They look like crap compared to PC FPSs. Nothing special or new with the weapons, vechiles, gameplay, physics, etc either. Is it evolutionary? No. Halo 2 is just a rehash of the first game. It does not set the bar for next generation FPSs.

I have determined that the people who actually like the Halo series fit into one or more of these categories:

    1. Never played a FPS shooter on PC.
    2. Never played a FPS shooter prior to Halo.
    3. Never played a FPS shooter with vehicles or dual weapons and think Halo is the first game to have both.
    4. Never played Tribes1 or 2, Operation Flashpoint/Resistance, Battlefield 1942, etc., which have bigger multiplayer maps then Halo 2, but they think Halo 2 has the largest multiplayer maps.
    5. Have only an XBox so they have no idea of other FPSs out there.
    6. All of the above.

That is not necessarily true. Look at the Final Fantasy series, it is still as popular as ever. Although one could argue that they are not continuations of the same game.

  14. Commercials Need Work on The Decline of the Video Game Mascot · · Score: 1

I have not seen a good video game commerical in a really long time, which boosted game character's images.

I remember Nintendo and Sega's glory days when they had funny commericals to promote their games. Nintendo used to have great commericals with some dorky kid rapping to Zelda, or Mike Tyson doing a sinister laugh at the end of his Mike Tyson's Punchout commerical, or the witch doctor commerical for Dr. Mario. Then at the end some booming voice would say "Nintendo, now your playing with power!". Sega had weird commericals where the character in the commercial would shout "SEGA!" really fast and loud at the end. The last good commerical I remember was for Final Fantasy 7, which showed various intense movie scenes from the game and said something like if you cannot save the world, there is always the reset button.

Since then, nothing. No more TV shows, no movies, no merchandice, and no commericals. I think the companies need to do more then just the game itself in order to make their characters more recognized and popular.

I think the government is using the wrong type of simulation. They should be using a LAN game of Stratego to practice military their military strategies. If you think about it, every war could be won using Stratego to plan military maneuvers.

For instance in Iraq we could be sending out Miners to detonate roadside bombs. Instead we are sending out scouts blindly into battle. The only option is for the US to set up a bomb shield around their flag in the bottom left quadrant of Iraq and use a Marshall and a General as a strike force. That will show them.
