.. is that slashdot seems to be more open minded then most internet forums yet are so close minded to beilive that we aren't the only ones in this infinite universe. So they havn't found any planets in our scanable ranges, I doubt I could include the ammount of 0's needed to display the percentage that this really is (think:.000..tons more zeros here..001%)
Then theres "the we dont know enough about physics so it cant be possible" argument Of everything there is to know it would take an equally long percentage to tell the % of things we know. (again.000..tons more zeros here..001%)
This is the same type of mentality that makes many countrys hate americans, and if were not smart its this kind of thinking that will cause the world to become the US of the galaxy.
dont forget 25 of those 40 are songs that should have been moved on to the stations that handle music between oldies and new, at this time early 90's im so tired of hearing the old nirvana and RHCP songs from the early 90's on the so called/new/ rock/alternitive rock station
What about those of use who have bought the game twice but lost/scrached up the cd? Id like to play half-life again, but im not about to buy it for a third time.
Just what in the hell gives you the right to disbale those coupon machines? Just because you dont want to use the coupon dosnt mean others dont want to save some money asshole.
Slightly Off-Topic but a couple of hours ago was wondering this, then noticed this article.
Could someone explain the differences in 1, 2, 3, 4, 5-alarm fires?
I've heard it was the number of stations that are asked to respond to the fire, but dont know how accurate that is.
I searched google for things like, fire alarms fire alarm codes, fire codes, three alarm, five alram, but all i get or advetisers for cheap fire alarms and news stories about varying alarmed fires in the news.
If a company can keep getting/giving, however its working, funding for CSPAN, how hard would it be for a company to get funding to provide a feed for experiments, lectures, and other related tapes sent in by people who tape what they do related in the field?
It seems like it would need even less of a budget then CSPAN.
Why was this modded troll, just because he menotioned getting first post and that this is really a boring article?
Im also tired of the sorry state of FPSs, Raven Shield is the best one if played latly, then it turned in to every other FPS. Before the first patch the game actually took some skill to sneak around SLOWLY and put your shot in a guy, then they "patched" it to "make it better" and all they did was turn it into a run and gun FPS like every other first person POS.
I'm glad theres going to be a school to teach such things, i hope its focus is more on story design then the technical aspects though. Half-Life was one of the best FPS for one reason (IMO) the story is still the best of all the FPSs. The add ons werent great but they were decent.
Arg, I'm tired of reading these turn your phone off responses, why should i have to take the burden of not being able to receive calls from others who know only to call if its IMPORTANT. You know IMPORTANT things cant just wait sometimes, things happen, the wives car won't start so you have to pick up Timmy from football practice.
But i should be the one to stop using my phone service because some companies cant go through the hassle of running their business correctly and ethically.
Hell, maybe people should move out of their house to their backyard to keep from getting a door to door salesman? --not the best analogy but good enough for this post
The reason that browsers mis-report is that some websites don't work properly unless the visiting browser says it's IE.
Yes I know why they do it, but instead of doing that DONT USE THEIR SITE. Then e-mail webmaster@example.com, then call example company and get your way to someone who you feel would be able to accurately take your complaint and complain. If your purchasing something and you still want to do business with this company order over the phone or by mail. Why? This takes WAY more resources then if you were able to have ordered online, also pay by check. Companies love the Internet because payment almost always has to be instant, the sooner they get their money and can put it in the bank, the sooner the money is working for them. If on the other hand your using it for banking, send an email about the complaint EVERY DAY, and make a call once a week. Most of the reasons above work for this one, more resources to take care of your requests, and the non-instantaneousness of the funds transfer is a loss of profit. When a manager finds out they could potentially be making 10% more profit in a year would be crazy to not try to get these customers and figure out how to lower costs.
Final note: a website shouldn't even need to know what browser your using, it shouldn't affect the page rendering anyway.
ugh, your the reason why sites are only designed for IE, and dont even consider anything else when 99.8 % is comming from IE becasue 99% of the people using a good browser are telling they your using IE.
ICQ also had such a feature way back in the day, with this you could also see what they typed as they typed, it made responding kinda funny cause you could shoot out a yes or no before they even finished.
WinAmp crashes unless its run as an admin or the user running it has local read/write to c:\progra~1\winamp and c:\windows (some ppl claim just the installation directory is needed, but it wouldn't work that way for me on multipule machines), took me forever to figure out what the crash on start was.
The bigger problem, ISTM (It seems to me), is most applications for windows have major problems when not run as admin. So what you have is a user running everything as an admin or the permisions set everywhere to let the user read and write to places they dont need to be. Also Windows access errors in programs generally seem to be very cryptic (read as: GPF, failure to start, etc) as well.
Not to say Linux dosnt have its share of horrid error messages as well. I spent a week trying to figure out what (damn I dont even remember what program it was in now) had wrong with it as it was simply outputting "error")
Back to the topic, I can't say that I've ever had a problem running my userland programs as non-root.
i saw that mouse, from what i saw it made me immediatly want want one. If it functions like it looked on the screen, what i saw was a normal wheel that could "roll" sideways (imaging the way a rubber band would roll down your finger, but this rolled in place and was pretty wicked) Anyway i/doubt/ its cool enough to actually work like that.
I have to give it to hardware stamped with the MS logo, its some mighty fine stuff, with a great warrenty as well, 3 yr no questions asked, i just wish i knew who was making it for em so i could buy it stamped with someone else's name.
There was one where they were kept on a planet by a computer who was controlling bots who could (of course) only think logicly. They tricked it into disableing the robots by causing each bot to lock up with simple logic questions. Then they all acted absolutly insane when they finnally got to talk to the main system. When the computer locked up they re-programmed it. They were brought to the planet by one of kirks old aquantences who was originally controlling the robots, and wanted to switch places with as they were using that human for research and in turn the human got anything he could ever want except to leave unless he could bring more humans to study and recive anything they could think of. (the bots could produce anything on demand almost instantly) They end up leacing the human that was originally on the planet.
Dont know if thats the one your thinking of, but it was just on sci-fi recently, and it kinda fits, although this episode had nothing to do with training, the rest was about the same.
You can search this on the internet too... we still have to goto the library to do it but the searching can be done on the computer over the internet, we have to goto the library because of the way the arrangement to use it was worked out something about needing a special username and password to get in. To be honest though, I dont have any idea in what other form it comes in, i've just been recently introduced to it, and have yet to actually use it.
You have to reboot? That seems like a bug right there, file a report yet? ::chucke::

Sure, you can turn off RPC after you install windows.
Sorry, No you can't.
True, but that wont fly on a production system.
phew, took me a couple minutes to pick my self off the floor after that fit of laughter...
Similar to people of faith beliving in free will yet when something bad (or good for that matter) happens it was all part of a grand plan. Go figure.
If ya dont get it, think about what a plan is.

ahhhh I get it, so if I use a microsoft OS I /have/ to use all MS codded applications? Great, that solves all the problems...
ROFL, did I read that right? If you're concerned about privacy you'll have to sacrifice winamp and use Windows Media Player
Not that I trust winamp or anything, but you werent really being serious were you?

I kept the quake 2 cd out in my car for the audio tracks, they were exellent!
