    Slashdot is a social activity.
Please think about this: Name 1 comunity of non-geek persons that are more than 10 and that get together every day to discuss their ideas. There are NONE.
Now, look at Slashdot, are we unsocial terminal geeks?.
I Think the hole think is upside down. We are social people, actually more sociable than other social groups because we still belevie in some things like netiquete, we can maintain social contract. Actual society CAN'T. Slashdot is not a website, it's a social contract. EVERYONE can post here, and he will be listened, we have our methods to protect ourselves from those that don't know how to live in society, but we won't censor them or ask them to go away.

We are unsocial with many people because they comunicate in a different language, which is by definition aggresive and antisocial.

The first Matrix movie could be understood as a really not so subtle metaphor of our reality, the machines/governments/companys are big monsters that we fed, and they keep us worm and enchanted with virtual crap like tv, confort and hotmail. If this doesn't apply to Free Non-Comercial software, that will be an amazing incentive for people to start using, or at least looking at, GNU.

Many times, in Free Software, the underlying system, the lower level development is made by the most competent developers, and so is robust, stable, actually the best out there, but the front ends, well, they just don't have the same quality, so, for the unexperienced user, it looks like crap. I think it's time that we change this, and start showing that GNU can also be reliable on the Desktop, not only showing how fast it is, but also good end-user interfaces. It's not that i don't like KDE, GNOME, XFCE, etc, etc, they are ok, but i think that if we put the best people to work on it, they will be even better.

People _will_ belevie that bullshit, and translate what should be "Windows has lots of ugly bugs, and now that we have *part* of the source we know where they are" Into "Windows is perfect, but foreign terrorists make it insecure because they still the code". This will finally be translated into "Having the source is a bad thing" and finally into "GNU is BAD".

Yes, i have a few of those (Actually, my cellphone os one of 'em too, a PT500); and i also have a Tango 300 and a Teletac 250 a good Friend gived to me; So, this is what i has been working on: As we _all_ know you can rather easily put one of this phones into programming mode, in emacs-mode (by using a key-short^^^^^longcut) or by wiring an extra ground the battery has. So, in programming mode, beetween other things, you can change the channel it operates on, and unmute the RX and TX. So, i have recently developed a soft for a company that needed to parse some files the telco sents them every day with calls info; this people installs public phones that are actually cellphones, they have a nice contract with movicom so they get better prices than the ones the telco has to offer; so, i found out that they were using different kind of devices, The officil FWT(Fixed Wireless Telephone); and ones someone made for them, that was actually a wrap for this old motorola and other cellphones, so they could attach a normal phone to this cells. Well, i got one of those devices and cloned it (rather simple, less than u$s30 to build it). So, i could get conected to the internet just by attaching a modem to the device and my cell on the other end :). Ok, that is expensive, my actual goal is to put 2 pcs with a modem attached to a cellphone via one of this devices, and put both cellphones on an unused channel, manage so when one of the modems dials the cell ignores it (simple), and then unmute the RX/TX on both sites, and there you are, a wireless network at 33.600!!!:, Ok, the phones has to be on the same cell, but that gives you a nice distance!!. (Still couldn't get it to work, no time, and no luck :), i will write a howto or something if i actually make it)
