I am at work just at email reading and reloading Slashdot, the radio at high volume, Watching an Iron Maiden '92 live video, while i'm on the phone with yet another client that is mad 'cause we deactivated http upload for php, Now, *That* is _real_ Multitasking!!!!
It feels good to listen someone remember the principles of Free Software. It seems like everyone have just forgot about it, this redhatlinux efect, as i use to call it, is really destroying our comunity. Lots of people Are starting to use what they call "Linux" every day, and since no one take the time to correct them, to teach them that Free Software is more than just something that will be usefull to his company, in RMS words, to show them the diference beetwen "Free as in Free Beer" and "Free as in Free of Speech". It's good to see posts like yours, since it remember us that there are still GNU People out there.
You can use it to roll back the wole system 5 to 9 times a day when some asshole discover yet another vulnerability on IIS and decides to 'test it on your server'.
Or, when you install the new version of that stupid control panel, and it fucks your registry up...
Or when one some luser create a file called ' ? * * lpt1 prn' in an incoming directory, shure, just roll the changes back...
Good way to administrate a system, until this tool from the devil fucks up your registry, eats 90 MB of RAM, 20 % of CPU, and make you reinstall windoze after causing you 3 hours of downtime, Shure!, it's the best!! Keep creating such amazing software bill!.
You can use UML (http://user-mode-linux.sourceforge.net/)
You can also try a different kind of tool, like Bochs (http://bochs.sourceforge.net/) which will let you run not only GNU/Linux, but also m$ shit, but i think no one wants that : ).
There is another tool, but it's propietary, so i wan't mention it, you all know what i'm talking about, and in the case of running Linux on Linux it doesn't make any sense, existing UML.
They are the ones who putted that tag from the deamon... (i am afraid my post will get censored with this words...)..
O god what an evil tool created on purpose to help infringe the IP of this pooor workers of the suit bullshit bussiness!!!!
I think we should eliminate this from WYSIWYG editors, if there are no links, then there is no more IP infringment!!! and the world will be a better place to buy 20 bucks CDs!!!!
So contact your WYSIWYG HTML editor developer and ask him to remove that 'link' button from hell!!!
I mean, you are switching from an unstable, propietary shit from microsoft in which you run propietary software from macromedia, to an unstable and propietary shit from Crossover in wich you run propietary software from macromedia?? If you want to switch to GNU, then run Free Software, if you just care about performance, then you are forgeting the free of speech part, and getting it more like in free beer (and if you are going to need shit like crossover, it will even be worse in performance, not to mention completely unethical, since Crossover is no more that Wine with a few stupid patches).
P.S: Don't get ofended, but it should be just vi, and if you want, you can add a few pngs to your webpage. If you feel like filing the allready messed up web with more flash shit, you really deserve to be stock at windoze95.
What would happend to all this ad/spy shit if someone puts a man in the middle and reverse enginer their 'clients', and if someone then takes that data and writes an app that can send user specified data to their database... and what would happend if millions of people installs that app and start sending wrong, stupid data to their databases... ???? Since this doesn't seem ilegal to me (at least the 'companys' that develope that kind of shit won't complain), we can even open a project in slashdot. We have GNU replacement clients for MSN, ICQ, Kazaa, e-donkey, etc, etc, etc... i want a GNUator Corporation Client (gcc?) too... : )
Since there is (so far) a way to make you sign a contract through the Internet; most licenses use to say that 'By using this software you agree to the terms of this license' or something like that. So, imagine (this requires _lots_ of imagination ; - ) i just buy Unixware and install it on my server, it works a few years, and i make lots of money developing applications and hosting p0rn sites under this plataform, but one day i decide that the terms of the SCO's license are abusive, i can't say a word, cause by using the software all those years, i acepted they license, and i can't took it back. Now, it Shoudln't happend the same if SCO use some software???
I Would like to remind you that SCO had a line of GNU/Linux products, and that they made money with them while they were allmost broken.
So, That is a way to accept the GNU License, to sign a contract. If they didn't agree with the license, they shouldn't use the software. But they not only 'used' GNU Software, they also developed an (ugly) GNU/Linux distro!!!. So, that probes that they acepted the license, and that invalidates any further legal actions. Just my 2 cents. (i want them back with a 15% anual interest + taxes.)
If you don't stop with this "my fs is better than yours" think i will go over *your* place at night and put your / on an umsdos and your home on a fat16, so shut the fuck up or you will end crying : - )
Slackware is a distro that has been made by just one developer, and you can notice that (for good). We you should use Slackware:
1) Free Beer: You can just download it. 2) Free Speech: Run Only GNU. 3) Free Mind: Many Distros install the software and then install themselves!!, Slackware install the software and then you can forgot you are running it, 'cause it won't get on the middle. You can use your GNU System without stupid modifcations or distro-specific bullshit automagic config tools. (But if you want them, they are just there, and they are the best).
I Think an important concept in Slackware is this: Slackware config tools are basic. They do a minimal setup; if you need a config tool, you will be happy with them; some people think that just making a front end to configure a config file just wrapping the options from the Option=Value Format to the input/check/click/etc format; and that is just stupid. If someone doesn't know what an option means, he won't be able to configure it, doesn't matter if it has colors and graphics all around. So Slackware keep it simple. Their config tools asks you for the minimal. That is enough for people who require a config tool. And if you need to go further, I think you will be more confortable using vi.
I think the only thing missing in Slack is ports and other kernels (It would be nice to run Slackhurd ; )
Yep, DDOS to Verisign is The Answer!
When Democracy doesn't work,
Molotovs are good enough. Also, those ISP sysadmins out there with a DNS
server on their hands can put their $0.2 and: Add a A record verisign.com ->
127.0.0.1 and a cname sitefinder.verisign.com -> www.gnu.org
BTW, Do you remember this one?
If register.com had to pay that for just a domain, think about how much can we get from VS for all *.COM and *.NET!!!
Now, I'm not^H^H^H suggesting anybody^H^H^H^H^H^H^Heveryone do this. : ]
Put some money together and put an Slackware Banner on their installer... that would be nice...
Another Good Think would be to put a fake error messge:
"oops. This distro is Really *Broken* and it just Hang Up During Install, If you reboot ASAP you may still have a chance to recover your partition table."
The Law is an agreement between the members of a community. When the a 'Law', brakes the original agreement, and doesn't represent some people anymore, then it's useless, and it's no more a 'law', and it becomes a 'rule', that is just imposed to us by the government. In that case we are entitled to defend our rights and our freedom. Maybe to attack SCO's servers is not the wiser/smarter/better idea, but it's someones way to say NO (may be he feels that in that way a lot of people will lisent to him). I think this bourgeois life has taken us to forgot that it's our responsibility to rule our lives, and that WE are the ones who implements Government, Law, Police, Money, etc.etc; and that those entities/things are just other agreements; and that if those agreements gets broken, it it time to make new ones. WE, as part of society gived SCO the right to make a business. If they then try to betray society, and steal from us, we have the legitimate right to defend ourselves, each one in its own way.
This is not a Problem of what the people want. GNU is not about that. GNU is about Freedom. To choose for someone else is to take freedom away from him.
I see all this discusion pointless. We are not a company fighting m$, we are not against them. We Say and Do what we consider correct and ethic. They are companys. They don't move arroud this concepts (and i am not talking about if that good or evil, i am just saying that is part of the nature of Capitalism, whether we like it or not).
So, why don't we stop talking and start coding?
WE are doing the same they do, and becoming that what we are fighting against.
The First Choice someone has to make is the choice to use GNU. Not because it is faster, not because it is more stable, not because there is no need to pay for it, but for an ethical Reason.
because in our way to fight to get more users, we are becoming another company fighting. We have diferent reasons? That sounds like Maquiavelo.
We should have less Vs. here. We are not against them. We just want to live in peace under our ethic; and let the rest of the world do the same. If they are Companys that want to sale software. And there are Coders which which wants to be paid to code Propietary Software. And there are People who wants to buy That software because they think it's better, who are we to say something?. As long as we have the right to produce, give and recive Free Software???
I think the Live Free or Die Think is actually funny, but we should live it behind now and change it for something more like Live and Let others live too.

I used to be at BSD, but my job forced me to move to Linux ... now i am at FreeVSD : [[
P.S Why is funny the way i use the word GNU? (Thought i am not a native english talker, it might be a reason)
; ) i can buy a CD for about $3.5 (Argentina) ... it's about a dolar at the actual change ...!

Laptops are cute (i have an _old_ travelmate : ), doesn't have enough power yet
But at home i have my 91 cm Full-Tower 5 1/4, 2 3/12 Case!
Small Computers Sucks
Let's go back to 5 1/4 '' 2 GB Big Foot Hard Drives
my 40 gb wd drive isn't enough neither even for the list of things you didn't mention before : ) P.S: haha, good one.
