Since Debian (even for those smart ones out there using slackware, like i do) is really considered one of the real distros, if we hear that redhat has been atacked, we would just say that they diserve it and go on, it would be delivered in the respective mail list, and that was it. But this attack has a psicological impact. Debian itself has been attacked, and it seems to be a bug exploited just in part, on the other side, there are updates that the compromised machines never got aplied, and other big mistakes like a non-tared backup lying arround, with the original owner / permissions mask. This is really more that enough to get any netadmin running Debian to get paranoid.

People using virus-friendly operating systems like m$ ones do all kind of weird modifications to their 'os' to try to avoid viruses. why don't just create a stronger environment which actually enforces permission checking and restrict virus-importing software like m$ mail client and browser? or why they don't create a better binary format that makes infection dificult and keep track of binary file modifications via some kind of checksums ??(it would be a trouble for us, for example, to move from ELF, but for them it won't be such a trouble, since a) they update to yet another new backward incompatible version once a year and b) anything will be easier, faster and easier than having 6 antivirus software running at a time.)

We were just sick of Hacking their control panel to make it work with the updates we did to the server, so we just migrated.... Many times we just hit m$ shit, but it's obviously a general propietary software problem. When you are granted by the law to show no especifications, provide customers a "no warranty" agreement as if it was free software, charge wherever you want for it, and after 2 years forgot you ever developed that product, tell people to fuck off, and just sell your new product... well.. it's really easy to make business that way.

Humanity has been developing Super Computers for the last 50 years. We only hear from them when they are developing them. For the time they finish it, it's allmost obsolete. They prommise that the machine is going to make a revolution in science, but after that the computer is just sold to the army to research how to destroy small countrys in a cost-effective way, or dedicated to some obscure research that never gives out any results. And, since the price of this things is just a delirium, just a few privileged ones can have use one for their research. I think there is a more logic, more upgradeable, more cheap and scalable solution, which is Clustering / Parallel Computing. It's scalable, you can start with to machines, and keep adding more to fit your needs, use a few PII to run quake and john the ripper, or you can have a real environment for use on research, achieving allmost the same funcionality that with supercomputers, but with the advantage that you created it with available hardware that you can buy anywhere, allmost anyone can afford one, just different size of the network and different bandwith will make the difference, and more important, you can upgrade it easily whenever you want. I think we should be developing and improving this kind of solution FOR EVERYONE, and not spending millions to develope something that just a few ones will have. BTW, who wants them to be smaller? : )

When i'm home, i use Konqueror (but not kde : * ) and Mozilla for some pages that don't load correcly with Konqueror (The control panels for our windoze servers (HC) for example.). So, i don't have pop up troubles 'cause they are just bloqued. About SPAM, i check 8 accounts: one personal account, and @domain catch-all accounts for each server we have, so i can get messagges addresed to root@, postmaster@, etc,etc. In those servers i have Spam Assesin,and, really, it blocks everything.(And yes, it took me months of configuring it the way y want.) 2 accounts are from windoze servers running an ugly MTA called Argosoft (i didn't install it : ) );, and i check those on an ugly m$ XP machine at work. for that i use and recommend POPFile, it has a heavy load, since it has a webserver for the web control panel, and a pop server + the clasifier all in one. It works really greate after a week or so of configure and trayning. Both methods are 100 % effective, and you will trust them after a month or so of using them. About SPAM, i check 8 accounts: one personal account, and @domain catch-all accounts for each server we have, so i can get messagges addresed to root@, postmaster@, etc,etc. In those servers i have Spam Assesin,and, really, it blocks everything.(And yes, it took me months of configuring it the way y want.) 2 accounts are from windoze servers running an ugly MTA called Argosoft (i didn't install it : ) );, and i check those on an ugly m$ XP machine at work. for that i use and recommend POPFile, it has a heavy load, since it has a webserver for the web control panel, and a pop server + the clasifier all in one. It works really greate after a week or so of configure and trayning. Both methods are 100 % effective, and you will trust them after a month or so of using them.

I Think that The terrorist attacks to the USA are because of Quake; and not only because of Quake, but because of TV, because of POP Music, Because of the ALCA, and because of lots of other ways the USA has to conquer the minds of the res of the world. The web is actually Overfeatured .... i like that in my shell, in my compiler, etc,etc 'cause I manage what they are going to do. I can choose. But the Web is Public. We can't reinvent it every day just because some asshole that wants to sell something think that it would be nice to have this and that in his homepage. Actually, this happends because the people who decide is outside hackerdom, so, they don't understand what they are talking about, and how dificult to implement it will be, they just call the tecnical folks and tell them what they want. At that time they enter into a 'Delirium Tremend' state, they start talking about the animations, and video they want in their homepage, they don't understand this is just HTML!!!! ... then, the tecnical folks from that company can't say NO. But they can't do what the boss wants with the web. Then they decide the web has to change for them (when instead they should change to adapt they pages to the web standards.)

Some companys, that had a role in the NET at some point, and now are allmost dead, 'cause the function they was playing, is no more needed, are now doing desperated efforts to gain some new importance, to show that their "glorious past" that has "Forged The History of the Internet", makes them important to the future of the net / software / t-shirts / Universe. While those fight to continue alive, some other little companys, fight to kill the first ones, to take their place.
All of Them Think They have some kind of "Legitim Right" over the others. They feel they are "Special", and so they have the moral right to decide over other's Freedom.
