Instead of just bashing someone for using something cheap and not offering a possible solution.
the possible solution was implied (don't use cheap crappy consumer routers). also, to clarify, my routers arent $3k ciscoezzzz and don't run Linux.
For those of us that are at a minimum technically competent this is not an issue. [...] I was just thinking there are probably a lot of people that do not have the ability or want to tinker with firmware.
I can't understand why, what I like to call, "the grandma scenario" is constantly being brought up here (my grandma can't use Openbox / my grandma can't compile shit in the command line / my grandma can't update her fucking firmware). did the OP imply he is technologically retarded and can't use more than the router equivalent of a fucking toaster? this is Slashdot, not tech-tips-for-fucking-lonely-housewives. try to keep some decency, I mean look at your UID, for FSM's sake man!
why do cheap routers fail? well, here's a few tips: you paid shit for them, they're made of plastic and most of them are brightly coloured.
(apologies for going somewhat offtopic and using foul language)

explain to me, in simple terms, how THAT is a bad thing?
SL will never be replaced, just like WOW is the best MMORPG and not changing.
I believe having the most subscribers doesn't equal to being the best. it may be the best at creating vast amounts of income, or using pastel colours. but it certainly is not the best MMO. a more appropriate label for WoW would be mediocre. here's a pretty graph to illustrate my point.
I can break a password protected Excel file in 30 hours max with this computer, and a 10000 core chip might reduce this to 43 seconds, but other than that, what difference is it going to make?
I was always impressed with how fast pages loaded, after seeing how small their operation is I'm even more impressed now! you can skip TFA entirely and look here for detailed info on their servers, locations, pictures, software, pretty graphs and charts. and lots more, just keep clicking.
I used to read XKCD but the geek content is too dilluted for my taste. like a chick flick with nerds. and for PA I don't need a feed. monday/wensday/friday afternoon when I walk in at work they are usually up. and now the feeds:
Whenever I read about a new MySQL version, I think about all of the hosting out there that are still running 4.x.
most of our customer sites have 3.x/4.x/5.x available. this has never been a problem. maybe your experiences differ from mine.
Why would you want to keep your other hand free when you're browsing Slashdot?
shake fist/cane/rake at twitter?
I posted a whole bunch of display bugs to Slashdot's tracker: http://blakeyrat.com/bugs/ Nobody's done jack about any of them.
clicky

The most likely reason is usually overheating if you leave them on the carpet or somesuch.
I think the most likely reason is that he uses cheap crappy consumer routers.
last reboot was when I installed the new UPS and when I upgraded the kernel, respectively.
that's pretty sad.
I think mirrors are still useful. I like the fact that I can pull shit at 30meg instead of the ~5meg I get from the rest of the internets.
A VPS is even easier to be snooped onto than a good-ol' iron server in some datacenter, imho.
where do you think the VPS is located? in a magic teapot?
how much are you getting to troll here? is it like per post, per amount of bullshit spewed per post? is your sound recording still working?

don't worry, it's not for tourists.

In this space, there are professional-looking avatars...
do they have sticks up their asses?
... and things to pick up and examine.
sticks? to put up their asses?
-ProfileManager is your friend.
I don't see/notice twitter's posts, but I can't get away from the complaints about 'em.
you're getting metatrolled.
Caldari might make peace with Gallente too...
don't drag EVE into this, their updates aren't distributed by BitTorrent.

29 hours 59 minutes 17 seconds?
unless you care about add-ons (and personally, I have yet to see one FF addon that excites me).
have you seen firebug?
*waves to butthurt Vista using mods on crack*
that would explain why Vista users are so butthurt. oh, and *whoosh*.
oh my, you must be fun at parties!
I have no mouse you insensitive clod!
