from what you're pasting there, I suppose you're some sort of scientist. if so, could you explain:
In the English language, the standard plural of virus is viruses. This is the most frequently occurring form of the plural, and refers to both a biological virus and a computer virus.
The less frequent variations viri and virii are virtually unknown in edited prose, and no major dictionary recognizes them as alternative forms. Their occurrence can be variously attributed to hypercorrection formed by analogy to Latin plurals such as radii; idiosyncratic use as jargon among a group, such as computer hackers; and deliberate word play, such as on BBSs (see, e.g.: leet).
do you just like using "virii" to piss people off, or is it the big stick up your ass?
Because most people just want a system that works.
is that why 90% of people run Windows? *innocentsmile*
They have better thing to do in life than to learn the core of a new operating system.
to each his own. I have no say in what anyone can do with their time (though, acquiring knowledge is pretty hard to beat). installing an operating system is nowhere close of "learning its core". stop exaggerating.
Because of people like you, Linux will never go mainstream.
I wasn't aware that "Linux" is a company that aims for total market penetration (he heh, I said penetration). or total world domination. or whatever. this is an oooold and tired argument. mainstream usage from uninterested users brings nothing to the table. perhaps monies for companies that want to sell you free things? meanwhile, enterprising folks who know what they are doing and are contributing back to the community are the backbone of Linux and FLOSS in general.
Since he didn't know much about Linux, it was my responsibility to help him with it.
* if he doesn't know the first thing about Linux, what does he need it for? on a PS3 of all things
he wants to learn the ropes you say? OK
* why doesn't he install it on his own? no better way to do it and the interwebs are full of documentation
this is not meant to be flamy in any way. I was just wondering how come everyone wants penguin power these days, but at the same time they are not willing to invest time/sweat in it.
Well, next time try the official museum site. Here is a quote:
please. your scientifcally-historic mumbo jumbo has no place in a discussion about *vampires*
Now, we can hardly decide two months of imprisonment makes it Dracula's Castle:)
you obviously don't know the first thing about Dracula. that's where he became a vampire and started to drink the blood of the castle dwellers. how do you think he escaped? thats' right, he turned into a bat after drinking enough blood, thus levelling up, and flew right out the fucking window.
For those who don't know it yet, if you view the raw headers of slashdot, you'll find Futurama quotes.
on a related note fortunes-futurama should be in any respectable slashdotters.profile:

How is this provocative ?
it's mounted on sharks. shark heads. frickin!
The next thing that I'd like to see is another Elite game. Elite IV - MMO :)
I was thinking the exact thing myself, then I remembered EVE

Is there a point to your at least pedantic, and at most douchebaggy, comment about the difference between x86 and IA32?
one could also ask the same thing about your comment.
FreeBSD is the only distro I found that supports the embedded AMI megaRAID controller "out-of-the-box".
small correction: FreeBSD is not a "distro", it's a full blown OS.
I for one welcome our new information broker corporate overlords.
on a more serious note, it's open source. someone will fork it or write an extension that disables what you (they) don't like.

No, honestly. That's what he said! :)
that's what SHE said!
you're new here, aren't you?
you should have been more specific
Go get wine working on openbsd and tell me how easy that is.
cd /usr/ports/emulators/wine; make install clean. shit, that was hard!
did Netcraft confirm this?

I don't want to have to pay $1500 for RHEL, but that's the only way I can run an Oracle dev server on a quad box with 16GB ram.
couldn't you just download 50CentOS?
it's funny 'cause it's true.

Dracula's Castle? Since when?
since 1997 or whenever the hell they advertise it as such?
Surely there are no vampires there, as I recently spent a night just in the proximity of the castle and I wake up much more revigorated than usual.
maybe it sucked your dick.
The video is pretty boring, there are much more hardcore stuffs on brazilian dramas.

Still, it's got to say something for the mainframe if 120 new Dell servers, running as a grid, offer only a 70% performance improvement.
it says it's 65% cheaper. how's that?
adwords
Touting an external, unsecure, unsupported, advert supported, webmail system as the all-purpose solution to spam is just dumb. Stop doing it.
ORLY? it's not so bad.
So in a very real way, if it hadn't been for computers (and especially IRC), I would not be married to my husband, and our daughter would not exist.
you better not let her get on IRC pretty soon then.
Won't brain slugs starve on most /. readers? :-)
