    They are under pressure to open up the .doc format. At some future point it might even become an anti-trust/monopoly case. So, they come out with a totally new format, open it up, probably have support for it in MSOffice (or maybe not) and continue to maintain and increase the stranglehold on their dominant format with no fear of having to open it up anymore.

    And, in order to have a sales office your employees must be Indian, unless you can show that no Indian exists in the country
    That's also the US rule for H1 visas. Why is the Indian one wrong? And how does it prevent competition? An American/Japanese/whatever company can set up shop in India, sell their products in India, repatriate profits back to their country, employee foreigners to oversee the operations (or as workers). Its happening, and legally. Our protectionism (or the lack of it) is nothing more or less than what anybody else has implemented.

    India is a perfect example of a country willing to take advantage of our laws (an Indian company bidding on state contracts gets a minority owned business score enhancement) while preventing any US company from doing the same in their country
    What are you talking about? Software: Microsoft, Sun, RedHat, etc
    Automobiles: GM, Ford, Toyota, Suzuki, Honda, Hyundai, etc
    Fast food: McDonalds, KFC, Pizza hut, Smoking Joes, etc

    I could go on with the list of companies that have set up shop here. Note that I am talking about sales offices, not ODCs.

I find it ironic that while one slashdot article spoke of Japan making robots to help their elderly, another article a short while later spoke of the USA creating robots with guns to make the killing process more effecient. How do you know the US does not currently have a better class of robots than these already? Maybe there are, except maybe they are not being used for uncool things like helping elderly folks cross the road...

But what do you suppose is going to happen when all the other countries in the world have been bullied or bombed into submission, and you are left with a powerful military and a powerful corporate lobby, backed by an aggressive government that does not respect the citizen's rights? Where will you be?

    How about if an all new protocol is defined, that has checks built in to handle spam? In any case everyone who wants to avoid spam are jumping thru a lot of hoops trying to fix and patch the existing systems we have in place, so they may find it easier to adopt this new protocol...

    Ok, so they use iris scanners to reduce the randomness in their verification process. Instead of picking people at random or intuitively, they can now concentrate on the 7% or 5% who don't make it past the scanner. Greater degree of freedom and convenience for those who did. Do you folks *have* to crib about everything?
