Agreed, any of the programs that I have written that have a splash screen because it was actually loading and doing some processing before showing the main application either a) load in no time at all, or b) take their time loading while they process the file that was used to launch the program.

Which of course leads to the question of whether the programs are actually loading anything like they say they are doing, or if they just have a timer and are sitting idle until they can start running again. My money is with the timer.

For example some of the games made by Peach Princess (Link not safe for work!) are rated AO. That is not entirely true - US Postage stamps circulated during the Civil War as small change. However, IIRC they were never officially accepted by the federal government as official legal tender. Their acceptance as small change during the Civil War was because of the lack of coin in circulation due to hording; because postage stamps have some value (you can use them for mailing). Also, it should be noted that some postmasters would exchange the stamps that were used for currency for legal tender, but this was not official policy. It was because of this lack of small change that the federal government issued fractional notes to replace the coinage that was being horded.

Well as someone that is in the military (USAF) I'm going to say yes and no.
It boils down to this - if you tighten bolts on a plane for 4 years and try to get a job as a programmer than you military experience is not going to count for much. However, if you write programs for 4 years as a military programmer (yes they exist, that's what my job currently is) then you have 4 years worth of experience that the other guy doesn't have, plus the military experience which can be a good thing in some situations.
But in some cases you may be a military programmer, but get screwed in terms of what you actually did - some people are called programmers but write webpage's the entire time, while others may end up writing high-end database systems. It all boils down to that magical experience again, and that partly boils down to good old fashioned luck.

I am also an escapee of the Texas public education system (class of 2001) and I ended up being one of the starting sophomore classes at a newly opened high school during my 99-00 school year.

Surprise, surprise it sucked - most of the money that the school had was either being sent towards the football team (which won one game) or towards finishing the construction of the school. I had Pre-AP Computer Science that year and I knew more than the teacher and I had just started learning C++ that summer. Overall the facilities at that school where quite lousy for a brand new school, and the old school that I was forced to transfer from had a better computer science department, even though the school was over 30 years old.

Long story short - most of the schools in Texas are lousy and the resident Texan belief that Football is life means that most of the real teaching that should be done is over shadowed by mandatory "Pep" rallies.

It is doubtful that the Electoral College will ever be abolished simply because historically the president was never selected by the people. In short the way that the Electoral College used to work was that the state congress would vote for what electors to send, and they would cast their vote for the next president. Over time this was changed so that the citizens of the state vote for the electors rather than the other way around.

In short what this means is that the president is not really a representative of the citizens of the country, but rather they are representatives of the states of the country. Your congressmen are in fact your direct representatives in the national government. The president is intended to act as a check and balance against the Congress.

In order education to be effective both parties need to do their job - the student has to pay attention in the class, and do the course work that is presented to then. Where as the teacher is expected to know the course material, and present it to the students in a coherent matter.
If you try and teach something that you don't understand yourself then, yes, you are a bad teacher because the student may be presented mis-information and end up worse off then they were before.

The touch-screen system do sound more convenient, however they lead to some major questions and issues that would need to be resolved. Namely the following -

What type of fail-safes does the touch-screen system have in case of system failure (i.e. Hard drive dies, power goes out, ect) in which you can quickly recover from something unexpected happening? My understanding is that the touch-screens in the booths feed the data into a central computer that tabulates the results, so what if something happens to that central computer (say the software crashes) and some of the data is lost - are those votes just flat out lost, or are they stored in more than one place.

Which leads to the next question - what is there to ensure that my vote is counted and is not 'replaced' with a vote for a different candidate? There are several places where the vote could be changed with out any real means of determining if that did in fact occur. With most of the current systems there is some way to tell if someone tried to tamper with the vote, but with these systems you have to pretty much trust the companies system.
