We have it in London too, called the Docklands Light Railway (its awesome being able to actually sit in the front of the train!), and most of the other parts of the tube are now also automatic (they have a driver, but he is there for emergancy)
In this day and age, we are soo worried abotu what COULD happen, and try and prevent "bad things" from happening that we forget what is important, those around us. Me and my wife dont have children yet as we have decided to live a couple of years together, enjoying life as it gives us. But at the same time, we long to have our own kids, and cherishing them.
Hope you have fun with the kids! I dont knwo what the weather is liek in your area, but here in London Town, the weather is nice... time to have some fun in the park!
My Sony Ericsson mobile phone (S700i) supports AAC perfectly, and is in my opinion the best format for use on that phone, better than MP3. You can use it as a ringtone, or listen to it through the headphones.
Even the new Sony Ericsson "Walkman branded" phone, the W800, supports AAC very well (ironically for a "sony" device it DOESNT support ATRAC, but that may be due to the fact that internally its more ericsson, than sony!)
Although it DOES support DRM (using the OMA system, which is actually quite "open"), you dont HAVE to use DRM (the DRM is just a wrapper around the normal AAC/MP3 files). Non-DRM files are easily "sharable" to other devices (other phones/laptops/computers), using bluetooth/infrared or whatever means.
I dont need any special software to "upload" the songs onto the phone, i can bluetooth it over, or even take the Memory Card out, and copy it on using a normal card reader.
Although Microsoft owns MANY patents, of which some may be used (unintentionally or otherwise) in open source, i very much doubt Microsoft would blatently litigate against the software projects themselves for most cases.
In many cases it may be a lost case for MS to pursue it, and it will generate a lot of ill will to go after a project with no cash, and often run by individuals trying to help out Free Software in their spare time. They are not going to get damages, and considering they are a convicted monopoly, it woudl be unwise to pursue it.
What Miscrosoft will do however, is deploy their arsenal on companies USING open source. Any former company who was a MS shop, and thinking of switchign to OPen source, will be given the "facts", maybe under NDA, regarding the use of patents in the opensource software, and liabilities. That would scare the adoption of Open Source by companies.
YOU are a "experienced" computer user. To be honest, most "experienced users" woudl not have trouble with their computers, because they are the target users.
The problem comes when inexperienced/naive users use computers.
I have Linux/Windows/OS-X. the last time Windows Blue Screened on me was last september, and that was because I was running Doom3, and i had a cooling issue (my fans were all set to minimum, and DOOM3 is a intensive app). Other than that, i simply hibernate the PC, and i dotn rememebr when I last restarted as such.
Dont get me wrong, i like Linux, and OSx, but in MY hands, windows is NOT as bad as it is made out to be. I just feel it is configured wrongly, and marketed wrongly.
Actually, having had a Symbian Phone (P800) and knowing exactly how things are transfered to/from it. its not even the software in the phone that makes it vulnerable, but more often than not, its the wetware in between the ears of the users
Although I love watching star wars, I would never be so crazy enough about it to queue 40 days early, just to be one of the first.
I would rather spend some time with my wife, who has been abroad for two weeks on business. When she got back on Monday, we really enjoyed being back with each other.
Even if someone GAVE me a ticket to watch Starwars on a preview, but would clash with the time my wife returns from her trip, i would not give up being with her.
The way I look at it, Starwars is a plain story, a fantasy. She is real.. I know what I would prefer given the choice.

I dont know about you, but isnt this a little TOO geeky? I mean, Girlfriends are great for a LOT of things, and web browsing is not really a great way to "bond". The best way of sharing a browsing experience is to actually go to her (or call/txt her if you dont live together), saying check this site out. Trust me, women appreciate the contact with you far more than an "impersonal" contact via a Instant message/browser link, and this causes all forms of suspicions, even where its not intended.
Me and my "sweetie" have much more intresting "browsing experiences", involving things such as going for a drive in a nice drop top car, watching TV together, in the bedroom, etc.. these are far more fun, and a greater bonding experience than being connected via a "browser"
I have beaten MIT students before in a conference, though admittedly I was in University, but for a British University (Brunel Uni) to beat MIT on their home turf, with a product that actually works (rather than a bunch of clever technology that doesnt work together)
The problem I saw with the MIT guys was that they are far too inclusive, and egos run riot. Each individual person was smart, but didnt nessasarily "interoperate" with each other. Whereas these high school kids, may have more social interoperation amongst each other, due to their so called "disadvataged status".
And yes, the conference in which the Brunel Team I was in beat the MIT team was ironically in fact a Simulation Interoperativity Forum.
The Evening Standard (a newspaper that nowmally comes out in the EVENING, started a morning paper a few years back called The Metro. They distributed this paper for free, in the Underground, and train stations. Thsi paper became a total hit, and also it had a slightly higher rate of Adverts (maybe 3% more) it was more than offset by the fact that its free.
I STILL prefer to buy CD of the best songs. I dont like the idea of downloading someone elses MP3/AAC. The reason is, I tune and sift the dynamics for each device used, whether my MuVo MP3 player, my SonyEricsson S700i phone (AAC, and MP3 support), or my DVD player with 5.1 surround.
This can only be done using Original Red Book CD's.
WHen i noticed some CDs started havign extras being put in, such as Videos, and infos, I would often wait for the enhanced CD to come out, and purchase that, instead of the standard one. Sometimes I would sepcifically buy a CD simply for the case that it had the Extras, what I would normally never buy.
Then came the copy protection shenigans, and I ended up with CDs that woudl not play in my DVD player, nor could I use to extract MP3/AACs to. and thats it, I stopped buying.
Now DVD Audio is here, and i amd seriosuly intrested in it, but also I am seriously pessimistic about the way that the paranioa is going to descrease the incentive for me to purchase them
I am sorry to hear your wife passed away from cancer, and i truely feel for you. As i said in another post, My first girlfriend died of leukemia, and I know what its like,a nd yes, there were times when i wished the same as you. For her to die in dignity, and not strapped in a bed.
But in the end, she shown how a person even with a terminal illnes can enjoy right up to the last minuite. she was sooo determined, she ignored the pain, and did dances, adn charity stuff, despite beign given only a few weeks to live. In a way, she probably expedited her death, by stressing herslef physically, but she had the complete time of her life. SHe died in my arms shortly after a ballroom dance for a cancer gala dinner.
Her view was, she is going, and she didnt want to just end it. despite being heavily crippled and stuff, she wanted to go out with a bang, and damn it to hell she did that.
However, these are my opinions, and i know different people feel different ways.
Once again, i am sorry for your wife, and also that woman in Florida. There is truely no correct answer, only your beliefs in this stage. and you believes will always be in conflict with someone else.
A religion that is "arguably considered" tolerant(*)
Also i am not a vegitarian.
I am a family man, who enjoys being with my wife. I enjoy her company (though currently she is on a work trip to india, and I miss her like crazy). I love kids. And i guess I have been through enough crap in my past, to learn from it, and see the finer points of life now.
Oh and I believe everyone has a different point of view, and its our duty to accept that not everyone is the same.
An intresting point of view about the whole capital punishment debate, if someone was to harm a person i hold dear, of course i woudl initially wish that person pay the ultimate price. That is human emotion, and a basis of irrational thinking. However, I am glad i live in a country (UK) which protect me from a "solution" that doesnt solve the problem, but gives me a false satisfaction.
As for the discussion on abortion. Its a shame that the only people who get to debate on it, are those who are born.
(*) Note this is only my opinion, and if anyone else holds different opinions, I will respect them for their own views.
AC Says: "A liberal would say you have no right to force a woman to have a baby she doesn't want. A liberal would say you have no right to force someone in constant pain from cancer not to have an easy death."
Actually, not quite. I was very brief in what I said. It is WRONG for a woman who has willingly had sexual intercourse, knowing the potential results, to then abort the baby, because of one nights pure stupidity. When my mother was pregnant with me, it was a surprise to my parents. and they were nto ready to have children, and were adviced for abortion. My mother however was strong to resist the pressure. However, if a woman had no choice in the matter (rape/incest/etc) then you can argue the woman didnt have a choice, and althoguh i woudl not advice FOR abortion, I would not fault it if the woman chose that path.
Second, as for the second situation about the cancer victim. My first girlfriend had leukemia. She WAS in pain, I know personally how much pain she was in. Many times she would wish her life was ended early. But I ensured that when she was goign through the pain, I distracted her, by giving her things to do. Eventually she did die in my arms, but before she died, she said that she was happy that she didn't force the matter.
I dont know about that.. My SOnyEricsson S700i has the J2ME framework, and i have some VERY intresting 3D games running on it (racing, tennis, even a semi flightsim)..
Now i am SURE this phoen doesnt have a 3D Card in it, and its just a cellphone (not a Symbian smartphone), but the games sure are runnign smooth enough, and using Java.
True say.. i am hardly "very" religious (and I am Hindu.. not christian)
But I strongly disagree with abortion (except in cases of rape, but even then, i woudl leave that descision up to the victim, and not advice either way).... Maybe its because.... i nearly was aborted myself (due to questionable advice given to my mother, who luckily had her own mind in the end)
Also..... It is not hyprocritical, that htose who get to discuss the rights and wrongs of abortion, are those who are born....
The UK does NOT have a tax on general CD media. Only the "Audio" versions have a tax, and guess how many of THOSE get sold!
the difference is, the aritcle was written for people like you or me, who can understand the technical intricacies.
However, joe public would not have understood, and woudl have simply turned off. Hence the dramatisation, and dumbing down, in the movie.
Until you have to return on a "non-pendolino" Branson Dinosaur

Netscape 6 and above is all gecko based
Netscape 6 & 7 uses the Seamonkey (Mozilla Suite) Front end.
Netscape 8 will use the Firefox Front end (though heavily customised to Netscape)

and there you go and highlight the BIGGEST hypocracies of BOTH the "liberal" and "conservative" movements.
Liberals:
- no to capital Punishment
- no to war
- yes to abortion
- yes to euthanasia
Conservatives (bible thumpers):
- yes to capital Punishment
- yes to war
- no to abortion
- no to euthanasia
Both may be the opposite ends of the scale, but they both believe that sometimes its ok to kill, and sometimes its not ok to kill.
soo.. what does that make me, a person who is:
- No to capital punishment
- No to war (except in self defense(*) )
- No to abortion
- No to euthanasia
does this make me "center", as opposed to left or right wing?? Intresting...
(*) Self defense meaning, protect myself and my family from attack, as opposed to bombing the crap out of iraq.
a costs $20
Now look back at what you wrote, and tell me how much does a CD with 14 or 15 tracks costs?
Ok, you seem like a troll, but i will bite...
Excuse me, have you actually used firefox?
Profile manager icons ARE created. Have a REALLY good look in start -> programs -> Mozilla Firefox -> profile manager
Even my sister can spot that.

type about:config in the URL bar.. bingo. a GUI for editing the configs, and changes are stored automatically in the USER.JS
