I think you mean Rover! (hence why they dont exist!)
But laughs asaide, pretty much all jaguars made in the last 10 years or so were excellent. I owned a Janguar X-Type, Diesel, and it was a very nice car, and very reliable. Economical when you wanted it to be, and fast/powerfull enough when you needed it.
I agree in the support of the chip company. The Data Protection Act is one of the few acts we have in the UK that is amazing. And its so strictly enforced.
I am sure that the man has not followed procedure properly, however, the The Article is scant on some details.
Although I dont have the Wii myself (but used it, and the 360 at my friend's place), I agree with everything you have said.
The PS3 is already a very capable device, and has replaced a DVD player/Blu ray player/Media player/TV internet device (i have a bluetooth keyboad and mouse)/ Video recorder (I have the PlayTV add-on), and all that is before i start the gaming side.
I have also purchased quite a few games on the download market, and they are cheap, like Outrun, and even Monkey Island Special Edition (yes i know its available on the PC, but its nicer to play on a large 1080p TV).
The Move is just another addon that makes it better.
this is the beauty of the Move, the "dead"zones are not as bad as the Wii. As long as the orb is visible to the EYE, it can track it (unlike the Wii where it has to point at the TV).
It only enters the dead zone when it can no longer be seen by the camera (behind yr back). However, the library does deadreckoning, and uses other sensors to still track it.
I agree with you. I recieved the Move controller as an early birthday gift from my wife (Though I seriously suspect that she wanted them herself).
I know she paid the slightly expensive figure of £30 each for the controllers (we already had the Playstation eye). There was a Camera + move bundle for £45. She could have got it cheaper online, but she wanted me to have it as soon as possible. We didnt bother with the Navigation controller, and so far its not needed, it is only £22 anyway.
She also bought the sports challenge for £20
All in all it wasnt tooo expensive.
I was initially very sceptical about the whole thing, btu I admit i am really impressed with it. I was going to buy a Wii, but am not going to do so now. The Move is far more accurate and versatile. Also since the PS3 is a more powerfull platform anyway, the games are likely to be better than equavalent Wii games. I did enjoy the Sports Champions Game. And I found that high velocity bowling was also updated for the new controller.
Its less than the Wii, and i think more casual games will become available in the Download market (which so far has been working out to be a great place to buy cheap, yet playable games, such as High Velicity Bowling, Monkey Island, etc)
You hit the nail on the target. IT was not just the power (the CELL could have theopretically emulated the power, and with serious coding, maybe the graphics engine too) However, the main issue was it was a weird system, and an emulator needed to emulate its quirks accuratly (incluiding its interrupts, and any quirks there too).
Secondly, if Sony emulated it, they woudl haev had to ensure as perfect aas possible emulation with no slowdows or artifacts. Alomost good enough is not good enough for a feature such as this, so probably it was easier to simply not bother.
"The latter software emulation PS2 models work 50% for PS1"
Citation Needed with regards to the 50% PS one support, as what you have said seems to differ to real world experiences. You may be correct with regard to the PS2 figures.
PS1 emulation is still available in ALL PS3s, and has always been software emulation done on the CELL, and not via hardware.
PS1 emulation was always very good, and improving, and if you are having problems, maybe you should file a report with Sony?
I dont know about what it was in America, but here in the UK, it WAS advertisied very strongly, on the box, and in the description and when I went to purchase it, the attendant made it VERY clear that it cannot play PS2 discs.
Personally, I prefered that, as it cut the power usage of the product down by removing those chips, that meant little for me.
You know what, I was annoyed when the OtherOS was removed too. But you know what, I am not too bothered.
The OtherOs was not practically usefull with the limited memory. IT was cool, but i uninstalled it after. I now have a Western Digital NAS as my "always on" linux box, and, am goign to build a small machine as a TV connectable linux box with enough memory to actually be useful.
Frankly I still am happy with the PS3, as despite the removal of OtherOS, other things have been added that are far more useful. ITs still relatively more open than most Units (standard USB controllers/keyboards/etc) and user upgradable HDs.
I have just bought the Move, and am finding more fun out of the PS3 every day. I bought the device, and I am having fun with it. three years on. Sure, I may have lost a feature i rarely used, but to say it doesnt do what I bought it for is totally incorrect. On balence it is increasingly doing MORE than I originally bought it for.
IF you want to remove all traces of sony from your PS3, good on you, and I wish you all the best. If you find the hardware is not what you bought it for, I wish you all the luck to make it so.
However, you are a vocal but small minority in the grand scheme of things, and I may be no fanboi of Sony (I have issues with a lot of what they do/haev done) but I have no issues with the PS3 in terms of what it does, and its purpose, which was ultimatly a Games machine to play PS3 games, a Blu Ray player.. and a DNLA client.
here, we have Petrol at £1.18 per litre here, which is £5.36 per (imperial) gallon. Thats US$8.13
My car does approx 24mpg in the real world (mainly city) so the cost per mile is about £0.22p.
Now the Tesla (which is actually a sports car, unlike my car) does approx 300wh per mile, which means approx 3.3 miles per killowat hour. Nighttime Electricity is about 5p per kilowatt hour in my home, (other plans may be 9p, and at MOST 22p)
so the tesla sports car does 1 mile for £0.015p at the cheapest rate, and £0.07p at the most expensive rate.
Note there are other cars that are supposedly MUCH cheaper to run than the tesla.
Finally assuming about 7000 miles per year,
Petrol costs: £1540 Electricity: £105 at cheapest, £490 at the most expensive.
Add to the cost of running both types (services, etc), the savings gets greater.
And you forget the key point, these cars can be charged home overnight, and for a slow charge overnight, it can be plugged into the normal home supply.
They still do, though not on screen any more, you need FMA (Floats Mobile Agent) to see the voltage/temperature/Charge cycles (yes there is a temp sensors for the battery too, something to think about if you are worried about exploding phones)
Hardware wise, the only "audio format" that was removed was the SA-CD (and maybe DVD Audio) which went with the 40gb PS3. Not a "great" loss, but then again, it has gained other formats (such as WMA, etc) which were not in the launch configs.
The USB ports, are annoying, but not a "great" loss, as you can add a normal USB 2.0 hub quite easily, I bought a 7 port one, and it works fine. I do have a really big issue that they didnt put at least one USB port on the back on all versions (which would make the addition of a hub MUCH cleaner, with wires all at the back, not at the front)
The HDMI update is not just to "turn on/off your TV", but with the right TV, you can use your tv's "play/pause/etc" buttons to control the PS3 slim.
One other addition on the PS3 slim is the HDMI bitstream audio.
I agree with you about the wired connection.
To be honest, you dont NEED to upgrade if u have the old version, you will get most of the goodies via updates.
I have created in the past an application that "on the fly" modifies MP3s per request (inserting adverts, seaming together descrete files, etc), as part of a large Podcast CMS web application (Tomcat deployment).
The application was written in 100% pure java, and was developed on PCs running Windows, test on Intel PCs running Linux, and deployed on a Sun T1000 Solaris.
It was as "write once, run anywhere" as you can get, the same WAR deployed and ran successfully on all platforms.
Blu ray playback is still fully available, and support has been added to ever since the release, to become a REALLY good BluRay player.
The only thing that has been removed by Firmware is the OtherOS (allow running of linux). The PS3 slim never had that capability anyway.
Backward compatibility was available 100% on initial sales of the PS3 in the US, by including the full PS2 HARDWARE in the console. That got removed in a hardware update. The initial Euro versions had the GPU, but the CPU was emulated. Even that was taken out on later hardware.
So, any new hardware cannot play PS2 games since about early 2008, because of lack of the hardware chips. They were NEVER capable of playing PS2 games, as the PS3 cannot emulate the PS2 in software on its own. ALL ps3s do emulate the PSOne though, and still do.
Though who have older hardware continue to have backwards compatibility, it has NOT been removed from firmware.
Lastly, for those thigns that have been taken away, many USEFULL stuff has been added and improved to replace it, so its neither here, nor neither there.
OR if you can get hold of a second hand Nokia N95 (and some other series 60 phones which have WiFi), they can usually run SKype, and often have SIP built in, and can run without a SIM card, if you have that requirement.
PSX still had games being actively made and sold well past the launch of the PS2, and even now, in 2010 the PS2 is still selling, and games are actively being made (10 years), so yes the PS3 may itself have another seven years, even if another console comes out in 3 or 4 years.
This compares stronly against the XBOX classic, which did die out shortly after the 360 was released.
I know.... its kinda ironic isnt it? Though you can also add Symbian to that mix, that is also pretty open on what you can install. I believe it was the same for Palm as well.
In fact, all three OSs were doing custom apps without havign an "app store". the norm was to download from various sources, and install.
Changing a single option in the settings (on android) to enable use of apps from other sources takes at most 5 seconds. Jailbreaking is THAT quick? I hope you are being sarcastic!
And changing that "option" doesnt void my warranty, nor start a cat and mouse game of updates undoing the jailbreak.
When did the GGP (or the parent above that) mention particularly "South America". I distinctly recall the words were CENTRAL america, which fits Mexico quite well.
One MAJOR mistake in your analysis, which is a "mistake" that MANY people make, is that: "A Religion/belief is only as good or as bad as those who practise it"
Lets take a point in example: In the Torah (old testament) there are rules for Stoning, and such. Yet these are not practised any more, as its unacceptable for modern society, therefore the religious leaders of judaism have adapted.
Also another point, the Caste System (which incidently is NOT part of hinduism, but is just a common misunderstanding/misinterpretation, whoes scope is beyond this comment) is totally deplored by the consitution and Government of India, and also by many hindus. Yet, PEOPLE still (illegally) live by it in India.
This is the UK, the second Amendment is US specific, but this case/situation is entirely British.
You hit the nail on the head, it is exactly that reason why BT (and some other providers) want this stopped.
I think you mean Rover! (hence why they dont exist!)
But laughs asaide, pretty much all jaguars made in the last 10 years or so were excellent. I owned a Janguar X-Type, Diesel, and it was a very nice car, and very reliable. Economical when you wanted it to be, and fast/powerfull enough when you needed it.

ok, quick check of economy (from a UK angle)

SonyEricssons, and various other handsets have been doing that for years (almost SINCE the first colour screens came out)
