  1. That's what I'd say too... on Nintendo Revolution Renamed 'Wii' · · Score: 1

That's what I'd say too if I felt the urge to leap off a cliff. Whee!!!

I was looking forward to the Revolution too, but now it just seems like someone is trying to run Nintendo into the ground.

I know, this is Slashdot, but didn't anyone look at the linked page? You know, the one that starts with "Each Vita Craft pan handle is embedded with an RFID computer chip..."

  4. Re:And how is this better than round wheels ? on Robots With Square Wheels? · · Score: 1

It relies on the wheel being partly off the ground to move forward, so it won't work with round wheels. The way this works lies somwehere between controlled falling (walking) and rolling. And as stupid as it sounds at first, it does seem to be simpler than either of those options.

  6. Olympic Swimming Pool on Microrobot Developed at Dartmouth · · Score: 1

An olympic swimming pool has a volume of at least 2500 m^3 (from the rules & regulations found here: http://www.fina.org/rules/FR/rules_fr3.htm)

    So...
Assuming it's 3um tall (a guess based on the picture)
Also assuming that it's a rectangle (it's not - someone can feel free to take this calculation a bit futher)
The volume of the robot is therefore 4.5x10^-14 m^3
So we get ~55,555,555,555,555,556 robots to fill an olympic size swimming pool.

That's not it at all. It's about money. Why sell four blade razors when they can sell the 3 blades first. Then a few months later they can turn around and sell you a brand new razor. Blueray is really more of a stepping stone along they way to get to ultraviolet. Why pass up the oppritunity to sell you a blueray device, and then sell you an ultraviolet device further down the road? They make more money this way.
