Though I agree with you somewhat, technology betters itself constantly. what if the people who built the Empire State thought, well, it's cheaper than 50 years ago, we should wait 50 more!
Indeed. The Mod Squad needs a few definitions themselves:
Main Entry: insight
Pronunciation: 'in-"sIt
Function: noun
1 : the power or act of seeing into a situation : PENETRATION
2 : the act or result of apprehending the inner nature of things or of seeing intuitively
Therefore the GP should be +5 Informative not +5 Insightful.
Use a Wide format printer. it prints at 300 dpi on 42" by 50ft paper. 24,000 sq in printable area per sheet. So excuse my math but that would be 2,160,000,000 bits per page per side right?
The reality of the fact is if 80%of the population does not like a thing, they will vote into office who SAY they believe the same thing. Since the average american never check what thier elected officials are voting in session, they just believe the lies and reelect the otehr 20%.
I agree. I play a completely different MMORPG. http://www.eve-online.com/
The game is fairly complex has a completely different style of interface, great graphics, but the reason I keep playing (and coughing up $20/mo) is the people in my Corporation (evespeak for guild). Upgrading ships and fitments to take on ever increasing scores of NPCs and the occasional pvp is fun, but the people make the game.
19,000 simultaneous users in the same "world" is nice too rather than "shards" like in Ultima Online". this is starting to sound like an ad.
D&D was about imagination and getting together with friends. Many said that Baldur's Gate was a good PC version of the D&D concept, but it fell drastically short because it was very scripted and you used graphics instead of imagination. Part of the reason I prefer the text based version of nethack.
I bought my Sony DVD player about 2 weeks b4^H^H (too much chat) before the DRM Sh*t hit the fan... Unfortunately I cant find another resonably priced replacement with the same features i.e. 400 disc carousel(sp?).
At the same time. I havent whined about the Sony rootkit thing either. The last Sony CD I bought was Megadeth's Rust in Peace (Capitol Records) and that was in 1990something. What does this have to do with your post? Admittedly not much, but Sony is a REALLY BIG company. I can't say that that I will boycott all Sony products. (Columbia Tristar Pictures). So... Prevent DRM! Download mp3s, then burn it to audio CD then rip it back to mp3!
I think songs should be priced by their length. U can fit 7 10 minute songs on a CD. that would make the cd $7 if you bought all the sngs separate.
OTOH - the way it is now penalizes short substanceless songs.
They DO still make PS2 mice and keyboards. And why the HELL would you have a USB network adapter?
OTOH, glue works great. Glue the usb peripherals in the sockets. or HEY!!!. I got an Idea!!!.
Glue the back USB ports shut then put the front panel connectors INSIDE the box connected to a spare USB header then glue the peripherals to that through a spare expansion card hole. then epoxy the case shut. then cast the whole thing in concrete with a fan inlet and exhaust. then put barbed wire and an electric fence around the pc. automated 30mm cannon emplacements. a moat. and a guy with a buzzcut looking over your shoulder while you work!!!!
I live in Las Vegas. I want to winn big for no other reason than so I can move into a neighborhood with a "Housing Association"**.
I will then paint my house Black with diagonal yellow safety stripes.
I will then plant a small airplane nose first in my front yard.
I will pay the association fines
when the neighbors property value drops far enough, I will buy thier houses cheap, remove the airplane, paint the house, sell it all for $$$, then go get some sizable land without an association.
</rant>
** Housing Association n. 1. A group of old rich people who have nothing better to do than tell you to cut your grass or pay a fine. 2. A group of snobs who think your business is theirs. 3. A quasi-elected body that is required to agree to in order to buy a decent house in the Las Vegas/Henderson Metropolitan area.
MMMM. Inkscape. I like to play in there with the litle paintbrush toolie thingie. Haven't had the time to learn how to wrangle anything useful out of it though. many of its features are a tad non-obvious. I've heard it has good scripting support tho.
The internet is a much more efficient way to search for product information than a tivo could ever be. I can't imagine that there are that many people that have the resources to pay for tivo service and not have the internet. Maybe they are helping fuel couchpotatoism by making it more convenient, but unless they attach a mouse to the tive, I can't see that process being anythng but arduous.
Hmm.... drills....

I have 2 (DirecTV)Tivos. 1 HD one SD. The only way I can see a use for this is if the Tivo cut/splice the ad OUT of the show (so I dont have to fast forward) and then throw them in a menu somewhere so I can ignore them and flush occasionally.
I left the company shortly after. There was a lot of "Management Restucturing" going on and I got an offer from a different company making 50% more per year.
Here's my story.
I worked in a callcenter. VERY M$-centric. They were using MSAccess to handle all their supervisory overhead. (write-ups, time tracking,HR stuff) and it was horrible. the damn thing crashed EVERY DAY.
This is a server story--->
I got permission from my boss (who was not in the IT department) to build a proof of concept web based replacement for 200 users.
Now, Everything was going well for months. All the supervisors were happy. The system was operating flawlessly. Then one overly ambitious assmonkey decied that he could curry favor with the site manager by filing a complaint against my "going against IT policy by having an unauthorised server".
The IT department was fully aware of the server being on the network. Obviously. They knew I wasn't going to break their infrastructure. They merely looked the other way, as it filled a need.
Nonetheless, the project was scrapped. Everybody who used the system got pissed at the guy who filed the complaint because it tripled their workload. That guy resigned. Ha Ha. But it still terminated the project.
Moral of the story: if you want to try to help people and "increase productivity" get top-down approval of the project.
I bought the dvd version of macross plus. Thought the upconversion to 1080i may be a factor, the reason I bought the dvd versions wasn't necessaritly to have pristine visuals as much as to keep from completely wearing out my VHS copies. I tried to rip and transcode them myself, but I had a crappy capture card. I am definately nt a famboy.. I own 6 titles. Macross Plus, Macross 2, Robotech, GITS, Orotsukidoji, Wings of Honiiamise (sp?). All on VHS.
There was a commercial product marketed towards guitarists that did essencially the same thing. It used the sensing area to modulate whatever effect was chosen at the time. Can't remember it's name though. I gave up guitar after 8 years of playing when I discovered programmming:-)
I seem to remember there being more than two names on the ballot for president. But everybody sees that as "throwing their vote away". I ALWAYS vote for the third party. It could be hitler, ghandi, mother theresa, saddam...
Even better is the 400 disc DVD changer and a video patch panel with a remote control. That's ooh aaahhh. No PC required.
I SERIOUSLY need to see the boxed set!

I tried to tell that to my wife...
She didn't talk to me for 2 days... that IS theraputic!
I'd rather Hi-Def Porn than the Smell-o-vision that Emiril keeps jabbering about on his shows. *shudder*
U stole by Idea!!!
Mugen sticker!!! yeah that's it!!!

I don't think "sacrifice" is the right word. I'm sure that there are quite a few people that would go. Even if it meant not coming back.

3 wasn't THAT bad...
I only use Windows 'cuz I cant reliably run Eve Online on Linux.
Other than that, I think that for me, they are close enough.
