The Tech level in call centers seems directly proportional to the user base. I worked in a call center supporting wareious PC and peripherals (all Windows) and Call centers only need people smarter than the person calling in. Hence Multi-tiered support, endless menu trees, etc.
For the most part, Back when NT4 was the poop, the person calling the help desk was not the end user, therefore the intelligence level was higher than the people calling for Win9x support.
Rather than feel offended by the parent, feel pride for having gone above and beyond. Tech savvy people almost ALWAYS get irritated by support simply because Tier 1 CSAs DO partake in an orgy of finger pointing. I have seen it from both ends.
We all still seem to think we need to do certain things at certain clock times, not when it's most sensible to do them.
Yep. People are cattle. MOOOOOO!!
I had the opposite problem about 8 months ago. I had BSD running on a x86. For fun I wanted to install SCO OpenUNIX (386 version) that I got at a Goodwill Store for $15. (manuals and everything!) but it was a QIC-02 release, and alas, I had no tape drive.:P
I believe the summer is nigh at hand
But... It's OCTOBER!!! The summer is WAAAAY over. Damn near Winter.
I believe that the bible as well as EVERY holy text for every religion are merely a best case scenario for tuning human behavior. They are a ruleset. No more no less. Otherwise, if there was a TRULY factual account, there would be ONE and ONLY ONE religion as all others would vanish in a puff of logic. So either ALL religions are incorrect, or ALL religions are perfectly accurate. After all, How could God, Jehova, Allah, Vishnu, Nammu, and may others have created the same universe at the same time? Or are you So conceited that you will assert that Only the Christians are right?
Or perhaps they were all facets of the same creator? If that were the case, why would that creator allow so many varied views to propagate for so long? But Back to the topic... How many deaths has overzealousness caused?
On the one hand, I don't like opera. (feels kinda squishy). But on the other hand, I have a computer (Dos6.22 upgraded to win3.1 upgraded to Win95 (For playing old DOS games)) that I could not install firefox on. Opera has a niche. but I don't think it will kill IE..
The problem is, other countries have other laws. You can't enforce US law in china. They'll tell us just where we can stick our initiative. I hope that ALL the countries do the same....
I believe that being an astronaut is on a volunteer basis. If you put an ad in the paper that said:
Be one of the first humans on Mars. All expenses paid trip to Mars one way, See a new planet. Do some research. There will be no return trip.
I'm absolutely sure you would have 1000+ volunteers that would consider their life a fair trade just to go, just to SEE it with their own eyes.
.. or if it isn't it should be.
If I bother with internet at all, I will use internet radio. But I just pick a random station. It's all about gaining a new perspective. You simply can't do that on over the air radio.
So. the RIAA can do whatever they want with radio. Preferably roll it up real tight and shove it up their.....
btw I've heard some interesting music out of Iran lately.....
I remember when I was Taking a Unix 101 course as part of my degree program, a Windows(R) Sysadmin (pointermonkey) was complaining about professionalism. He was referring to CorporateSpeak(TM). He was upset that an error message used everday English, like "Oops, the program broke. Try restarting it" instead of " Windows has encountered an error and needs to close".
On the other hand, when I showed him Webmin, he liked that.
The nation's healthcare siuation rewards genetic abnormality by spending gobs o' resources to ensure it's survival. (Watch Discovery health sometime.)
Folks with severe drug problems have this cycle: Partake, almost die, rehab, partake, almost die...Rinse and repeat.
My solution
Step 1 : Legalize drugs
Step 2 : Deny healthcare if narcotics are in the bloodstream at the time of treeatment
Step 3 : Remove human rights from certain types of prisoners. Doing crimes are a personal choice.
This advocates...... Wait for it..... Taking responsibility in the choices you make!

Agreed. The issue with whether or not linux is "ready" for the desktop never really was an interface issue anyway. Look at Apple. They have had the mst attractive and simple interfaces since back in the days when they didn't even display in color!. The problem is, unless "mainstream" software developers write for linux, it will stay where it is.
For instance, my boss could care less what OS we use here at work, but our estimating software will not run in Linux. (Wine adds a level of complexity I don't need) As a Construction company, Estimating is the main revenue driver as far aas office work goes. I have yet to find a F/OSS solution nor a commercial one.
Quickbooks doesn't run in Linux either. That throws out MANY small-Medium businesses.
This is one of the reasons I use a trackball. (Logitech Marble Mouse)
You don't move the mouse. therefore:
The cord makes no difference
21 square inches is all the desk space I need
RSI is greatly reduced (index finger moves pointer)
most people leave my computer alone because "I can't use that thing"
Definately... Look at Nethack. (not falcon's eye) an @ tomping around fighting off ks ans os and other @s with his trusty d (or k) by his side. Great game. Zero graphics.
Don't get me wrong, I like doom3 in all its, realism, but I still enjoy old school games too.
Wasn't it Douglas Adams that said something to the effect of... "Anyone who wants to be a leader is the least qualified to do a good job of it" -badly paraphrased from HHGTG
I agree. I have an ECS with the SIS735 and have never had issues. (knock on wood)

And for today's sick joke.....
Gynecologists can be EVEN RICHER!!!!.
Yeah, I'll go to h-e-double-hockeysticks for that one.
- I had a job interview on that day...it got pushed back 24 hrs - still got the job
- I bought the Premium channels from the satellite company so I could watch something other than planes flying into buildings
- My wife listens to Country Music. I now grow ill anytime I hear the name Lee Greenwood
- Somebody got rich selling little magnetic ribbons (just mad it wasn't me)
That about sums it up.oh wait I forgot! --- It now takes an hour or two to get thru the airport.
Everybody likes to use 9/11 as a point to whip people into a frenzy. It's the new Battle cry. "Remember the Alamo!- er TWIN TOWERS!!!)
Damn armchair patriots
Been "over there" twice while in the military. Before 9/11. Very little has changed.Last time I moved, It took many VERY HEAVY boxes to Move all my books. Maybe I'll scan them all..
:(
All though anything useful has to be illegal...

There werent any Matrix movies. They were Terminator 4, 5, & 6.
Besides the Ultimate collection would be best if it were in one BIIIG box.

I have a 19" LCD that I use everyday. Is it THAT noticeable if I have 7-10 ms instead of 3?

After you are detained, you are taken to the ministry of love for evaluation.
Print one or two Paper Archive copies. Then release to the masses in E-form.
Distribution overhead reduces drastically
I knew a hurricane Shaniqua. *shudder*

On "the Secret Life of" on the food network, they said that in ancient Rome people were jailed for making sausages due to some pagan sausage festival.

semi automatic powder actuated hole punch. Or as the DOD would put it:
Punch, cuircular, powder actuated, manual.
Let me count the ways
- The FSM says so
