See this, computer languages shoutout benchmark
Bigger is better, python is at 17, a few places behind C, perl is at 10. You wouldn't disregard perl when it comes to web frameworks, right?
I don't know about emerge, or for example, up2date from fedora, but python programs don't have to be slow. I'm using zope and plone, and, for their complexity, they're fast enough.
Another example: the Battlefield game series use python as internal scripting language.
That's just so ignorant. One of the things that I appreciate when reading Other People's Code (which you kind of have to do in the Zope/Plone world, and for good reasons: the projects are young, there are a lot of changes, the source code are mostly readable and commented, and the major things are documented any way) is that you can clearly see at the top of the file what else is used in the curent file. And if you want to dig things deeper, you just look in the referenced file.
And really, when you compare, even in your bogus example, the python code is so much clear and understandable.
I don't think counter strike would qualify to be banned. If you kill somebody, you don't get any advantage for your online character.

I've never managed to finish the mission in the nebula, searching for the lost pilot (arround mission 20 I think). But I've finished Freespace 1.
Great game! Loved the fact that it had an editor and lots of maps. Anyone knows if anything happened with the source code? Any new game/mod came out from that?
Haven't you've tried Zope Page Templates? They have a few implementations outside of zope, if for any reason you don't like that.
On the other hand, I don't know much about Rails, but Why not zope? Rapid development, a lot of suport, open source, has comercial backing, and you also get plone or CPS. Extra goodies! You don't need to mess with SQL, has catalog search features, users and rights, ZPT (which are absolutely beautiful, IMHO), workflow, security, "disk" based development, through the web development, you get to use python for development etc. Have a look and don't dismiss it!
there's quite a difference. PyPi is a collection of python software, while CPAN serves mostly as a collection of perl modules.
The Python community really needs to have an overview of the software available for use, so this repository, together with the wiki from python.org is really good of introducing newcomers to what's available.

I've installed a "longhorn theme-pack" on my windows xp and now my windows explorer has the menu and toolbars layout exactly like that.
Of course, I couldn't stand the new colors and had to change the appearance to windows clasic. I'm not sure if I'll be able to use longhorn if it doesn't come with sane color themes or a "clasic" mode.
I had the same complains, but I then discovered the "Add a keyword for this search". Go into any seach engine, right click in the search text input box, choose the option from the menu. You'll be able to set your own keyword this way, to search from the address bar, exactly like in opera. The difference is, all and any search engine, it doesn't have to be added by opera.
I thought ILM goes with Softimage software. They were using it since the days of S3d, then migrated to the hottest 3d animation app of the moment, XSI.
I'm sure they're using Maya, but not to the extent you believe.
I know that you're a developer, so I'll point this as a constructive criticism: I was very excited about Inkscape today when I saw the article, so I had to try it. I'm already using it on Linux, in a LTSP setup. Unfortunately, on my windows, the screen refreshes are very slow and it chokes the cpu (athlon 3000, 700MB Ram). Otherwise, good work! Finally a possible replacement for profesional vector packages!
Yes, It got faster, better, with more apps and users, and become one of the major desktop environments in today's computer world. The best one of them, in my opinion.
Of course, I'm offtopic, but, please, moderators, try to understand that this is a discussion forum, and we come here to discuss, not to be insulted when we respond to one of our interlocutors by being moderated down. Please moderate up what you think is worth rewarding, but stop being assholes and mod down everything that doesn't fit your perfect day of wasting time on slashdot (myself included).
Too many moderation points. One of the reasons I gave up moderation.
Who's entirely too envious on someone else for the community they gather and the cool factor they have. Do you think Microsoft wants to change and actually get to the stage where they will listen to their customers and community?

To the mods: Yeah, redundant, but I'm sure you'll be praying for Adblock :-)

Of course, not just Java app server. Their python equivalent, Zope, has been open sourced for quite some time now.
those two scripts don't work?
Anyway, I'm pretty sure that Linux is, at the moment, mostly used by computer-savy users.
I consider every government a crime against humanity, but I'm just too anarhistic. Of course, beyond the reply of the other poster, what can I do?

OT: did you pay your taxes? I'm sure you must have, one way or another. Step out of the society if you really care about these issues.
